You were mentioning your family farm here in Indiana. May I ask where in Indiana that is? My ancestors were among the first white settlers of Washington, and a little later Jackson Counties (Vallonia, and Brownstown). It's via that same family branch that I'm also descended from the Virginia long rifle maker William Zollman.😁

That was fascinating! Thank you so much! I am a Welshman living in Japan - 22 years and counting. No real connection with America other than a branch of our family lived there for several generations, due to whaling........However, this period in history is incredible and Mike was a fantastic interviewee. We enjoyed that and my Japanese better half told me that she could easily understand the English,,,,,maybe because like us Welsh, English speakers speak a little slower....Thank you once again for the video. Liked and subscribed........

22 guys killed 2300/3000 deer...., no wonder the "Native Americans" were Mad as Hell..... These Long-Hunters were actually surveyors who were working for the Colonial Big Money Land Speculators. The eradication was another means of dislocating the Natives from their lands. All was a concerned and cordinated effort of Big Money to make more Big Money while violating the agreements and Treaties the Crown had with the various Native Populations... Mansker and the Bledsoe's settled the Sumner County, Tennessee settlements of Mansker Station (where Andy would first meet Rachael) and earlier, the Bledsoe's founded Castalian Springs along with William Hall, Nathaniel Parker, the famous Irishman, Hugh Rogan. In 1777, during the tail-end of a survey expedition, Thomas Spencer's horse would become lame from a split hove were both were forced to dwell in a Poplar Tree through the Winter/Spring of 1778. Being 6'8", Spencer hunted for whatever he could procure/devour and adorned the hides accordingly. Hence, when the Cherokees from the Tennessee Valley encountered glimpses of destitute/alone and weary Spencer, the origins of "Bigfoot" aka, in the native tongue, Sequatch commenced and corrupted into Sasquatch. That Cherokee Folk Tale has, since the early 1960's taken off to it's own. The Sequatchie Valley and the county seat of Van Buren County, Spencer are named for his honor as this was the location of his demise by aforementioned pissed Natives.... The clash of Scots-Irish, Hessian's, and Northwestern English were escaping the Crown, and "plowing" head long into the native populations as the spear point for Big Money Land speculation. To read what George Washington thought of William Blount will widen your eyes, as well as, other period accounts of General Griffith Rutherford, William Lytle, General Hall and others for what was for some opportunity to be Free of Governments, but all the while at the beckon call of Big Money, and the YOKE they were trying to escape. For the Natives, this clash of cultures of want, Freedom and opportunity, was the beginning of a nightmare that would end in 100 years. The real factor was a steel knife and blanket beat the hell out of a stone and hide version of either. The natives were doomed with the first trinket.....

Hello: I appreciate your video. Have one correction on the personage of James Graham, one of 16 Long Hunters shown on the memorial you show which was depicted at the Skin House Branch. James Graham, the Long Hunter, was actually the third son of John Graham Sr. (a son of American Graham Patriarch Christopher Graham who came to America in 1720.) James Graham's first marriage was to Rebecca Robinson. James second marriage was in 1778 to Mary Worthington at Fort Pitt. He was a brother-in-law of CPT Edward Worthington, another long-hunter, who one of GEN Clark's CPT's during the Illinois Campaign. James Graham was the father of Dr. Christopher Columbus Graham, the noted Kentuckian, and Judge John Graham of Floyd County, Kentucky (Dr. Willard Rouse Jillson had Judge Graham's parentage wrong). The long-hunter Robert Crockett, killed in Tennessee by Indians in 1769, during the Knox long-hunt, lived next to the Graham family, and was a shirt-tail cousin. Robert's aunt Esther Crockett's sister was married to one of James Graham's extended cousins. James Graham settled in Nelson County, Kentucky with a nephew, also named Christopher Graham. In neighboring Green County, there was a large group of Graham's and Linn's which included William Robinson Graham and Benajmin Linn. Both were reportedly early long-hunters, and like so many of the long-hunters, chose to move their families to settle in or around the Barrens. William Graham descended from William Graham Sr, another son of Patriarch Christopher Graham. He was the grandfather of Mentor Graham who was Abraham Lincoln's teacher. Also depicted on the memorial is a man named Christopher Stoph. There are no records existing that show a Christopher Stoph, other than with the long-hunters' lore, and nothing for a family named Stoph. I believe this man was actually Christopher Graham, whose was probably known by a variant of his first name "Stoph." His name should be shown in records as Christopher "Stoph" Graham. He moved to Nelson County in 1791. This Christopher was a son of John Graham Jr., who was James Graham's older brother.

Native barefoot walkers like some of the African long distance runners tend to foot-strike differently than people used to wearing heeled shoes. They hit with the front half of the foot first. I wonder if that would extend moccasin life.
