BMW R1200GS Horn Upgrade

I swapped the original BMW horn for one from a BMW 5 Series. The car has two, low & high pitched. Just the low pitched one is now on my GS. Many thanks for this very helpful video. Happy New Year and all the best for 2025 👍
I'm really pleased that it helped. Happy New Year to you too :)
Nice video, mate - I'm sorry you had a bit of cloud interference. I drove 16.5 hrs straight through to Hopkinsville, Kentucky to see the 2017 eclipse and the viewing was excellent - no clouds whatsoever. Drove 7 hrs to just east of Sherbrooke, Quebec to see the April 2024 eclipse on a hill just outside the town of Compton. There was totality about 20 minutes south of where I live but I wasn't going to take the chance that there'd be cloud cover hence the drive to what's referred to as the 'eastern townships' of Quebec. Fantastic stuff. Now planning for the August 2 2027 event and hope to station myself somewhere around Luxor, Egypt for 6 minutes of totality. Hope to see you there ! 😁 To me, they really are one of the most amazing things a person can witness - a literal 'can't believe my eyes' experience.
@@fentonwoodley5891 Thanks for this. I’ve only seen two total eclipses. The first was from a cliff top by the sea. It was amazing to see the shadow approaching across the sea but the weather wasn’t great and we only glimpsed the sun at totality for a few seconds between the clouds. Despite the clouds the one in this video was fantastic. Crescent shadows, shadow bands, diamond ring, etc. were all clear. I can see why people get hooked on ‘eclipse chasing’ 🙂

Launched in 1959 it was quite different to the MG & TR cars offered (primarily) to the USA market. My Dad had a Jaguar 2.4, which had gearbox issues. Swapping to a Daimler V8 250 (in the Mk2 bodyshell) was a transformation that the whole family enjoyed. This experience is what inspired me to get an SP250 as soon as I'd left home & could afford it.

Can we remove the seal without seal extractor?
@@idrishassane629 I’m sure you could get the seal out without a proper puller. A hook of some kind may work, for example. It would take a while though & you’d have to be really careful not to damage the fork tube.
I use 7100 oil 10w40 is that ok I know that BMW recommendation is 5w40 but it's hard to find for me. any suggestion about this please
@@idrishassane629 I’m just an amateur owner, so not an expert by any means. Having said that, I doubt you’ll notice much difference using that oil. I’d give it go if it’s all that’s available. Best that you check with a BMW dealer though, or contact BMW directly, online via their website perhaps

Haven’t used a rattle can since the red oxide on the culls of my mk2 escort! Nice job.
As you'l probably gather, I have quite a collection of part used rattle cans. One reason for making the videos is so I can remember which colour I've used where :)
Looks good; I'm thinking of getting one of these. But how much did they charge for delivery?
Machine Mart had a promotion on giving free delivery when I got mine; otherwise I think it's about £50.
@@Greeves That's not bad at all; I thought it would be a lot more than £50.
Brilliant video. Thanks. I have a bigger version with similar casing. The bottom cover is recessed and pops out to reveal 2 screws. The top has two seams. There's a very thin plate covering two screws. I got the bottom off then unclipped the main cover then broke the screws off at the top. No big deal as the main clips hold the cover in place. The fault on mine appears to be a tiny pressure sensor at the end of a pipe. Uncoupling that allows the pump to run but also lets air out and obviously doesn't stop or display the pressure changing. I'll have to look again to seal the pipe when I have more time.
Interesting. Many thanks for posting the comment. Good luck with it! 🙂
Melodious!
@@tomroot7961 Yeah, a bit smokey but a glorious sound 🙂
Why does it look like the speed in these videos is accelerated? Even the people's movements aren't natural
Interesting. The video was taken on an iPhone 12 & certainly not deliberately speeded up in any way. It looks OK to me; unless, of course, TH-cam speed content up - scope for a conspiracy theory? 🙄

@@johnling2919 The worst was when a pool of water formed around the tent; luckily it didn’t rise quite high enough to spill inside 😳

@@Greeves Not at all, thank YOU for making this video. It's the only one I've seen that does it from this end and I'm going to try it on my R1200RT LC today. Bahnstormer wanted about £150 labour plus £78 for the seal kit. Was going to cough up but then they cancelled because they are suddenly out of business, so I thought I'd do it myself. Got the seals for a tenner and an extractor tool for the same (not the same as yours, it's the lever type). MASSIVE saving.
@@ArcanePath360 All the best with it. By the way, another commenter pointed out that I re-fitted the air bleed screw too early in the video. Quite right too. Best to fit the screw after the fork leg is fully in place; so that the air pressure in both legs ends up the same. (I loosened & retightened both air screws a few days later to balence the forks.)
@@Greeves Thanks. I did notice that comment and made a note. I had negative pressure pulling my leg down before I bled it. Not sure if that's normal. I just checked the manual on re-assembling fork legs and it does say to bleed them after putting back together. Getting that dust boot off the lower leg was a REAL pain even without the tube there. Had to work a short stubby flat head into it with a bit of force. I'm hoping the extractor tool I bought (should come this morning in the post) will fit in there. Starting to think I should have bought one like yours.
@@Greeves So after just 3 months, my oil seals are both leaking now. Maybe I should have replaced the boots when I did it. Not fun doing this in winter

In the scope of it dragging it only caused an additional 2% damage to parts that were already damaged and due to be replaced anyway.

Yeah, a short tang can cause embarrassment when it pops out & your lever just dangles to the floor 😮
Hi! I'm wondering how is it during winter time? Does the heat working well? And if you not turning it on during winter, does the cold air from outside come in through that drill holes?
Hi. The unit works fine in the winter, here in the UK at least, where the outdoor temperature is rarely more that a few degrees C below freezing. It does heat the room and maintain the set temperature. The air circuit in and out of the external vents is isolated from the indoor side. So there are no cold draughts from outside, even when the unit is off.
@@Greeves Thank you so much for the info! That’s really help.
@@Greeves Do you have any tips for when the winter comes? We’re in Vancouver, the winter is not so bad but could be freezing in some months. Any special care we should do for the machine? We also have main central heating in the house too. So we might not turn this one on everyday during winter.
@@chaaimjaja Your situation sounds like mine. We have conventional gas central heating and only use the Innova to top-up; when we're in the room for a while & there seems no point in keeping the whole house warm, for example. I mainly installed it for cooling in the summer. During the winter though, I believe the unit periodically pauses heating the room while it de-frosts the evaporator (and water exits the unit via the drain tube). It certainly does this in the summer, though I can't say that I've definitely seen it happen in winter. De-frosting only happens occasionally & takes a minute or so, so isn't an issue in terms of overall performance. If you have temperatures below freezing for an extended time, it's possible that the drain tube could freeze up and become blocked. I'd think that you could break this out of the rubber tube by hand; or use a kettle of hot water. It's never happened to me but according to the manual - If the drain does become blocked the unit will stop working and display an "OF" overflow error.
@@Greeves that’s such a relief! I was worried about those drilled holes. Thank you so much again!!😃
I enjoyed that, thank you,

What does the exhaust flap do? Is there a disadvantage in removing it?
The valves main function is to reduce noise and keep the bike within maximum sound levels legislated in various markets around the world. The valve can be disabled without harming the bike & if you don't care about (potentially) being illegally noisy. You can simply disconnect the cables, tuck them out of the way and leave the valve in place; it's spring loaded to stay fully open. This disables the valve without flagging any faults & is cheap, easy & quickly reversable. Alternatively the valve can be removed completely & replaced by a plain pipe. This starts to get expensive and more involved. Likewise, removing the valve servo takes some thought to avoid OBD faults being flagged, or paying for an off-the-shelf 'servo elliminator' solution. Personally, I've left mine in place & working. I don't really care about exhaust sound, or alledged performance improvement (that can only be tiny). My insurance policy explicitly requires "no changes to the stock exhaust system" - another consideration. All the best :)
@@Greeves Thank you for the wonderfully quick reply. I wish you pleasant driving
Is this air or water cooled?
It’s water cooled. I only ran it for a short time & had lubricated the water pump impeller prior to this short run. Any longer & the leg should definitely be in water. They’re great engines though, beautifully made, with rolling bearings in all the important places.
