The richness of native literary texts and translations produced by the Armenians in the fifth century CE prompted the Mekhitarist fathers to characterize that century as the “Golden Age” of Armenian literature. This lecture explores the portrayal of women in the most influential texts from this period, evaluating how they present women’s roles within the context of the church and society, reflecting cultural, theological, and social attitudes of the time. A critical examination of these narratives will extend beyond historical analysis, drawing connections to contemporary discussions of gender roles in Armenia. Ultimately, the presentation seeks to highlight the enduring implications of the misinterpretations of these early portrayals and how they have shaped views on women’s roles today.

Oh noooooooo, this is so valuable in the audio is so terrible! Somebody help the professor out and get him a good microphone
Too quiet. And the video is recorded incorrectly, resulting in wrong orientation no matter how you turn your phone (just turn on the subtitles and you’ll see what I’m talking about). The topic is too important for such amateurity.

You are listening a medium version of the culture..

I just don't understand religion at all . Religion has done alot of bad thing. To the world and we need stop religious on to the world
If you thank America care about Christianity .we are a of million people
38:15 Arshin Mal Alan belongs to Azerbaijani Operet "Arşın Mal Alan" composed by great musician Üzeyir Hacıbeyov. It is a Azerbaijani Turkish music not armenian.
Sound is fine. Just turn up the volume on your device.
It’s already at max on my iPhone.
These are Arabic musical scales, that’s why they have Arabic names
When Arabs came to invade all Middle East they founded already a civilization, like Alexander the Great, there were already music and scales. This instrument was invented by Armenians and Persians, so, no offense, but the scales are not Arabian XD
The sound is too quiet.
Great video. Is there a Part I?

I really appreciate Mr. Hagopian how he found this old songs music sheets and the lyrics. This two young musicians are playing very well and 'clean'. Bravo. Krikor 87 from California.

Almost Turkish song, very impressed.
It is Turkish and Azerbaijani Turkish music. These minor subjects only stole and adapt the TURKISH culture.
invaluable history and context. Too bad the videographer couldn't arrange to get better audio.
Almost shed a tear at the performances of these splendid representatives of our ancient nation. And, my God, interesting information on Armenian musical heritage galore from maestro Hagopian! Was a tremendous joy to watch and listen.

A fascinating lecture! Thanks for posting this on TH-cam. One thing that particularly interested me is the reference to the monastery of Khtzkonk. Regardless of whatever happened in the delapidation of the site, it is clear that many stones collapsed into the ravines and the gorge below where it so spectacularly stands. Presumably some of these stones could retain inscriptions in like manner to these at Ani and indeed on the walls of the remaining St. Sarkis church at Khtzkonk. I'm wondering if these have ever been investigated and researched. On a visit to the site, I had the impression that the rubble is simply undisturbed and has remained there since it fell down from the rock platform where the monastery stood. The same seems to be true of many other sites, not least those less accessible at Ani, such as the debris around the walls of the Kizkale church. Any comments on this?

Just another day in paradise 😊
Say it again!
Excuse me but its ridiculous 42:10 where he says Tatyos is the composer of most of Classical Ottoman music. He is very seperatist and misinforming regarding Armenians being the so called inventers of Ottoman music. In short, you can check it out, what he means for Ottoman music. We play more than 2-3 thousands of pieces from 15th to 19th century in about 60 maqams actively. We have more than 4-5 hundred maqams. For the curious ones, Hammamizade İsmail Dede is most contributing probably. Also many more. He doesnt know much about Ottoman music. We do not seperate armenian and this or that. Im really shocked and sorry for him.
What we use today is is Latin alphabet with some additions. No problem if an armenian served to this. I would be thankful. The issue is, you try to discuss a racist topic and continuing this oud players' racism. Im talking about a music repertoire, if he would be right where is the proof? He is misinforming and seperatist. And what are you? You will decide.

This was an excellent lecture. These hidden Armenians are clearly of mixed heritage, and their Turkish and Kurdish heritage is most probably more predominant than Armenian (from what I have read and from the hidden Armenians that I have spoken to most are a quarter Armenian at most). How does this affect, if anything, their acceptance into the Armenian community? The current discussion gives the impression that they are simply Armenians, like any other, with the only difference being religion.

Unbelievably gorgeous ancient music that's still alive and enjoyed today !
Thanks for your voice for Armenian history. After the flood we all came out from Armenia.

Another very interesting lecture. "Panturkism" is an extremely racist theory and because of it humanity still suffering.
Good work. History matters!
Very interesting!
Don't forget the 1st genocide in the 20th century which took place in Namibia, Herero and Namaqua by the Germans.
