Have you ever thought about buying/adopting a whippet? This is just a quick video that summarizes everything that you need to know about this breed before getting one. (Project for school)
my name lil t man
Sunscreen on a whippet , where ?
getting 2 soon ... can’t wait
ok so mine is a mix breed, she hates the heat and loves the snow and cold. If the outside temp is 75 degrees F plus, she looks at me like you suck, it's too hot, and when there is snow and it's cold. I have to force her inside, because she is too busy playing in the snow.
I love them! Growing up we had many different breeds of dogs but whippets just touch my soul. I'm on my fourth and he's a love! Don't tell anyone...it's our little secret!
have they ever been breaed for food
Beautiful dogs, but when you're talking about the way they run, you mean "gait," not "gate."
the background music droning on while you talk is giving me suicidal depression

This was very well done. I have owned greyhounds (several) and a coonhound. I do have to contradict one point you made, as a former licensed veterinary professional: it is not a big issue to anesthetize a whippet or other sighthound in 2022, and it has been relatively safe in the past in the hands of a competent veterinary staff. A few decades ago, the type of general anesthetic that was commonly used in vet clinics was tough for thin sighthounds to metabolize (because these drugs are stored and used slowly, in the fat cells of the body; if there is little fat, the drug acts much differently and hits harder). But most veterinarians received special instruction in sighthound medication alternatives and special considerations, during their schooling anyway. However, nowadays we are using safer anesthetics for all dogs. I used to use vets who themselves had sight hounds or had worked extensively with them. As a foster care coordinator for a major state greyhound adoption, I took many a dog in to be spayed/neutered or have teeth cleaned. It was safe. Nowadays, I would still recommend asking the vet before the whippet or greyhound is anesthetized for a dental cleaning, whether the vet is aware of past and possible issues with anesthetizing sighthounds. But there is really little to be concerned about. I also really want to emphasize that allowing teeth to remain covered with tartar (and thus bacterial growth which can and does enter the bloodstream through the gums) is far more dangerous to the whippet's health in the long run, that a few minutes of anesthesia. So yes - DO have their teeth cleaned thoroughly and professionally (brushing is NOT a substitute!) if your vet recommends it! This will protect their heart, kidneys and other organs and make them healthier in the long run.
I'm being adopted by a brindle whirrier on Tues. (whippet terrier cross)
Gait not gate
Gate and Gait are different things.
Informative video /one note-Gait not gate
The only thing my Whippet can hunt is me holding a packet of crisps
Soooo cool
The origin of the whippet was a result of tenant farmers in north of England breeding runts in a greyhound litter with various terrier dogs. This occurred in the second half of the 19th century, not the 17th century as mentioned in the video. They were first recognised as a distinctive breed by the American Kennel Club in the 1890s.
While all coat colors are acceptable, whippets most definitely do not come in a long-haired variety or multiple coat types. The standard states that the coat is "Short, close, smooth and firm in texture. Any other coat shall be a disqualification." If you see a dog that looks whippety but has a long coat, it might be a Silken Windhound. Blue eyes are also a disqualification for the show ring or ethical breeding, but dogs that have them are still very qualified to be wonderful, loving pets!
The word is “gait,” not “gate.”
GAIT not gate. Good gravy Marie.
"gait"
Nice short on whippets. One correction though it's gait not gate :)
*GAIT not "GATE"
Gait*
Factually great video, and thats important as there's a number of very bad ones out there.. Sorry the VO talent got a little off later, but she's reading and I know I wouldnt do any better haha
Whippets are truly amazing. I doubt I'll ever get another breed. My one year old, Yolandi, is the sweetest, funniest and most intelligent dog I've ever met.
This is my dog to the T!
I think they mean Gait not Gate
My whippet Nigel is currently crashed out on the sofa happy as a pig in “what’s it”
Sunscreen?? Uh..
Cool video, great dogs!
I have a 12 week old whippet pup at home and he's great, wasn't much of a dog person before but man he is heartmeltingly cute
They DO bark!
I have rabbits is the dog good with rabbits
Nice presentation on the Whippet. I want one!
Gait, not gate.
The word’s “Gait”!
Whippets are FANTASTIC!!! it's "gait" not "gate"
Great video, I had two and while one didn't bark much the younger one did bark quite often. He used his bark to ask for treats and to warn me if there were other dogs nearby. It was never continuous or annoying.
@ 2:46; tell me that is not the prettiest dog you've ever seen! Have to get me one of these!
My favorite breed Sleek, just love them
My dog is mostly whippet and he is awesome. He is 15 years old, deaf, and has one eye, but he stills loves to run and play.
Having lived with whippets, I agree with 99% of that video. I must of had the 1% of whippets that bark. Not a lot but when warning or wanting something.
That's interesting, because greyhounds are not big on barking, either. :)
Great video. It's gait, not gate, though.
What a beautiful dog! I just recently drew and painted my first one!
when i leave my whippet at home he just sleeps all day
0:16 damn that is a small girl or biiig whippet
every clip could be my Charley Girl, apart from color
I want a whippet
touch sensitive?? That's funny. If a family member is able to sneak up on ours, instead of being startled, he would probably just lick you to death.
I have a Whippet/Jack Russell mix and he has traits from both breeds. Great mix and I love all his quirks!
