Good memories :)
I’ve played this one a lot over the years and I still get confused and line up on the wrong side of the ball at times! 😂
You needed to paddle attachment for Breakout…couldn’t use the joystick…these were all fun games
It’s one of my favorites to use the paddle controller. I had fun revisiting these titles. It had been a looong time.
Very nice retro stuff! wow!
Thanks! I love these old games! So many good memories.
🏆◾ 🔑
Nice! ▪️ 🗡️ 🐉. 🏰
What made you think to do this? I’m glad you did but wow.
I didn't realize that I would be able to go that far. I figured the gremlins would have got to me more than they did. I just started down and then kept convincing myself to go further. It took me about 3 hours to get down there!
Good list! Other games worth mentioning: The Devil's Dungeon, Dragon Maze, Android Nim, Sargon, Santa Paravia and Fiumaccio
Thanks my friend! I appreciate you taking the time to drop some titles. I'll add those to my list. I've really been enjoying these early games but I have trouble finding good information on google. There is plenty of info on console related stuff but not so much on the early computer games.
It is not possible to get over the gap with one builder. In my version I need two
That makes it tougher. Not many builders to spare here. What version are you playing?
I subbed after watching this video, BTW. This is exceptional content, as you went above and beyond. Just would have liked an explanation of why you had to input hex for part of the program. Was that data or are there opcodes that don't have mnemonics in the assembler? I think this program would be a cool addition to your website, as well, to go with you game.
Thanks, I had a lot of fun with this one. I didn't include that program on my site because I copied it from the game's manual. The hex part at the end is data. Those are memory locations of symbols that get written to the display. And in fact, those symbols are available and used in some of the actual games. If you look at the screenshot on 'War of Nerves', the robots are the same as the character in the game I made: retroslayer.com/games/odyssey-2/war-of-nerves
I was recently (near the time you made this) wanting to find such a video as this and your other one on Computer Intro!, but couldn't. Tried again, and couldn't, until I searched videos on Google (not YT) and scrolled to the second page and lots of non-relevant YT videos and looked in the text blocks for the matching text and saw the first part of the title of your other video on Computer Intro!. Clicking the links for those videos, that text was nowhere to be found, but, on after doing that once I figured out that it must have been a title of a recommended video on that page when Google crawled it., Searched for "assembly computer intro odyssey" on YT and found your videos. For some reason, the "'computer intro' odyssey" on YT doesn't find your vids.
It's probably because my channel is fairly new. I'm not sure how they rank stuff but I'd imagine getting some comments on the video might help it be found more.
I hope you have a lovely life whoever you are, peron who i was reccomended not ai geenerated im just druk man
Haha, thanks for the good vibes! Hope your having a great day! Don't forget to drink plenty of water.
❤My childhood games😢
@@IsrarAhmed-kl9eu Mine too! I still play them when I have time. Good memories
My lucky Number was always 5, I remember those dungeons like my home town
This game was great! It took me forever to map out my dungeons. I needed a compass in the game. Kept losing my direction and there are so many fake walls. It's easy to get lost. I didn't expect the little gremlin thing to be the most menacing creature you could find lol
Mapping was so much fun for me. I'm currently playing Wizardry and the dungeon in that game is great:))
cool video dude
Thanks! I had a lot of fun with this game.
Neat stuff! I had never heard of the Channel F before. Those last two games look like a bunch of fun!
It’s a cool console. Doesn’t have a whole lot of games but there are a few gems!
dude thats awesome
Thanks! It was a pain to enter and debug but I had some fun with it. Took me back to my college programming days.
WOW! Ant man!
The first ant man in level 4 is soooo tough.
Cool! I start to think, an idea, to rpogram one day something like that. Very retro. 8 bit. Like this APLLE ][ style of gfx. One day. One more dream for me! I so much like retro computers!
It was a great time in gaming! I played around with some BASIC programming back in the day. Nothing fancy though.
I played this on the Vic 20. I was amazed that the glass filled up
It was a really fancy intro for the times.
Many of my nights were spent with BAM:))
Great game for sure! It looks like there is a special edition that came out in the early 80s that had some improved graphics.
How do you have this!? I loved this dumb game!! Man talk about nostalgia 😂 Did you have an expansion cassette game thing?
I don't have a cassette expansion. I didn't know there was one for the Odyssey 2? Was it for saving games?
simple but nice video
Thanks! I remember playing this one a bunch when I was in school. Finally got around to playing it again.
I haven't played this before, Did you have fun with it?
This game is excellent! I think you would enjoy it. You have to have the manual. It describes each room text adventure style and has a cool backstory in it. Loading between screens is slow but I've come accustomed to that in this era of gaming. It's got all the great RPG elements I was looking for. The difficulty really ramps up at the end. I had to do quite a bit of grinding xp to clear the third floor. The last floor was insane and I ended up cheating just so I could see everything.
There’s actually some odyssey 2 games that could use a walkthrough. Like Monkeyshines. Have no clue what’s happening in that one.
I'll have to check that one out. Never heard of it
@@RetroSlayerGaming I’d really recommend Killer Bees if you don’t have it. Honestly phenomenal gameplay for Odyssey 2. I’m so impressed.
Cool, I'll try that out too. I'm new to the Odyssey 2. I grew up on Atari. Its been fun going back to see what other stuff was out there.
I played this for hours in the 80s. This was all we had as far as a chess computer
It wasn't a bad chess game in the modes where the computer was quick to respond. The seizure inducing screen while the computer was thinking was awful though. And it made it where you can't see the board.
@@RetroSlayerGaming that’s why I had a chess board on the floor while I waited for the computer to think. It always scared me when the king was suddenly in check with the sudden noise.
Did you ever play any on level 7? i tried it out and thought the game hung up at first. I didn't realize until I checked the manual that it takes an average of 10 hours to respond.
@@RetroSlayerGaming yes but i never finished because i was 13 years old and i had to goto bed; it was the 80s.
What year is this? You should check out Star Raiders from 1979, it an amazing simulated 3D first person perspective/movement
It was a 1979 release. I do have the Atari 2600 version of Star Raiders with the keyboard and overlay. I think it came out later though. I'll have to see if I can get the Atari 400/800 version running.
I've never seen this game before. It looks way better that Outlaw for the Atari
It improves on the Outlaw concept in a lot of ways. The trees are a good addition. When you are close, you can shoot through them. You reload with the tree that matches your character color. Characters are smaller relative to the map which makes for slightly longer, more strategic fights. Its nice that the match resets after each hit and you get a fresh map. Having a single player mode is always good too. Its missing the ability to fire at an angle. You can only shoot straight on. One player always starts at the top and the other at the bottom. I wish it would alternate or start on even footing. I had mixed feelings on the friendly fire. You shoot into the forest, you never know who is going to get hit.
No one seems to talk about Dungeon Campaign much, I'm not a huge fan but it's shorter and more responsive than other RPGs of the time.
The responsiveness was nice, but its definitely a mess of a game. Walk a few steps and fall to the next floor. Repeat a couple of times and you are at the end of the game. I have Wilderness Campaign on my list of games to play. I'm hoping it improves on the concept some.
@@RetroSlayerGaming Yeah, it's basically just a maze game with some hazards. It doesn't even feel right calling it an RPG
This is a gem of a channel! BAM is definitely in my top 3 PC games of the 70s :)
Thanks, glad to see someone appreciate the computer stuff. I've been covering most console games but only handpicking the computer stuff because there is so much there. I have some more Apple II games coming. Currently playing the 1979 version of Temple of Apshai , which has been excellent. I'd be interested to hear any game suggestions you have. I tend to enjoy RPG and dungeon crawlers the most.
@@RetroSlayerGaming Make sure you don't miss Akalabeth :)) Richard Garriot says he made it in 1979, despite all copies saying 1980.
Thanks, I was having trouble getting past the part with the bricks:))
These reaction type games have never been my thing. This one wasn't too bad. I had a tough time clearing the wall on the Atari 2600 breakout.
@@RetroSlayerGaming I've tried that one but I didn't get too far. Do you use a mouse to play it? Or do you have a paddle?
I used a paddle controller. I did try on Stella with a mouse but it didn’t work very well.
@@RetroSlayerGaming I've got to get one of those. I've been playing breakout/pong games with a mouse
I played the fool out of this when I was a kid! Thanks for the memory trigger! Ah nostalgia!
Glad you enjoyed it! It's been my favorite Atari game so far.
@@RetroSlayerGaming Thanks to the community, I never had to give up on my 2nd console. (My first was a Sears Tele-Pong machine). Today, I have a modded Xbox with all the old Atari systems and games I still enjoy, plays the new community, and now official games coming out almost daily! I've just discovered you and subscribed. After I look at what you have covered, can I make suggestions for you?
That's cool! I bought the 2600+ when it came out so I play a lot on that. The old cartridges are affordable enough that I have reobtained most of the games I had when I was younger. Great to have you as a sub! I'm definitely up for suggestions. My channel is only a few months old, I'm still trying to figure things out. I've been playing through all console cartridge games by year. I started in 1976 with the Channel F and am almost done with 1979. I'm also building a website alongside my channel: https:\ etroslayer.com
@@RetroSlayerGaming I'll check it out as well and see you there! Are you just doing games Atari made? Or carts by other companies as well?
For consoles I've got Channel F, Atari 2600, Odyssey 2, and Intellivision so far. I've also done a handful of Apple II games. The website needs a lot of work. The idea there is to tag the games really well so that it makes it easy to find similar titles and view how a particular genre of games has changed over the years.
this game is literally worst than ET
@@TheZerva ET takes too much heat. There was a lot of junk around the same time that was much worse.
@@RetroSlayerGaming yeah, ET was the scapegoat
To a kid back then, those primitive sounds and blocky graphics were heaven. No, they didn't match the artwork on the box but our imagination took those blocky graphics pretty far and they were still fun games.
@@hiker64 I had a lot of fun playing this one. Pretty cutting edge stuff for when it was released.
Can't imagine anyone having ever having played more than 2 or 3 moves on Level 7
@@nowthatsjustducky supposedly the computer makes some illegal moves at times on the highest levels. I never waited around to find out!
Good ol days of Atari 2600.....my pre teenhood
I remember that's Atari 2600 if I'm not mistaken it was a long time ago I think it was back in 1983 when I was a teenager when I was 17 playing Atari with my girlfriend doing Martin's back at 183 Garden Street Pawtucket Rhode Island when I was going to Shea High School
It’s like looking at Golden tee
That was pathetic. Anyone who tries can finish in less than 1:30.
Anyone can finish in less than a minute thirty, but that’s not how you get the girl.
7:23 Lois Lane ending. A lot of people seem to have channels for playing retro games, like Atari, but don't play very well. This person hasn't bothered to learn the map, but at least they could win without cheating. Some said they couldn't win this game at all! PS: I beat 1'00" this year (without cheating).
This video was my second run on the game. The first time it took me 15 minutes to win. I did learn some map shortcuts and how to get the bridge pieces quickly at the first before moving on. On my channel I’m playing through every console game by release year. I started in 1976 and am almost through 1979. I usually just try to get a win and move on. I did spend some extra time on Superman because it has been my favorite title so far. 1’00” is insane!
@@RetroSlayerGaming I played this game many times. Awkward as it is, you have to let a kryptonite satellite sting Clark Kent, then walk into the Daily Planet so Lois Lane will hug him at the end. Also, the game is harder if you set the switches to NOT have Lois appear if Superman gets stung. Trying find Lois to restore your powers makes it harder.
@@Halpin2006 Yes, the easy setting ruins the kryptonite. It’s not really a big deal to get hit. The harder setting makes it something to look out for and avoid.
Spiderman 2 on PS5 ain't got shit on this !
I hated this game as a child. I still don't know WTF is going on with this crap game 🤙🏼
What a mess.
Your life?
This game sucked even in the 80s
Were you having trouble finding the right buttons when you kept getting buzzed?
Absolutely! I struggled with this one. I guess that's why the game comes with a button overlay.
Looks more like Spiderman with a cape then Superman lol. I have an old Telestar I'll have to grab this game has to be better then ET.
I think when this one came out, most people were just happy that Superman didn't look like a pong paddle!
Dreadful piece of crap. No wonder gaming industry crashed in the 80s
Back in the day when the cover artwork for the cartridge cases looked so amazing unlike the graphics
I think the bigger issue was that they didn't print any screenshots on these boxes at all. The back of the box was all text. Makes it hard to determine what you're getting when you pick a game out at the store.
@@RetroSlayerGaming that also happened with a varied amount of cassette games for home computers
and machine computer 1K memory, and just one of to today game consoles, almost as much memory avery Atari one of that model of console ever made, all just display fancier graphics,
cant believe people used to actually sit down and play this 😂
Used to!? I just finished playing it lol
Never played this but it sure looks better than spending half the game flying through rings and the other half performing a useless task. I'm just saying.
Lex Luther is the final bad guy to put in jail
Arguably the best Superman videogame. Certainly better than N64 Superman.
I’ve never played N64 Superman but have heard plenty of bad things about it.
Lots of noise.
Superman must have a hard time sneaking up on people
