Well done 🎉 I'm literally going to buy one of these mini bus this weekend. Is it more or less the same size as the mercedes sprinter lwb?
@@Tamika.Chinque oh congratulations!! I think it’s slightly bigger. The length is 6.5m, the width is 2.2m and the height is 2.9m! But to be honest it doesn’t feel that big when driving.
@islandaimee16 OK thats even better its bigger lol. Your doing a good job so far can't wait to watch the updates as you go on. Me and my family are going to travel the world in ours hopefully leaving the UK in September 2025.
Love the boxiness of this, what class driving licence did you need for it?
@@ksmall6819 so the great things about this bus is it’s and automatic transmission and only a 3.5T, meaning you can drive it on a normal license! It’s larger in size than a normal 3.5T but because the body is made of fiberglass it’s much lighter.
@islandaimee16 wow I like it even more!
We'll done on doing your own campa conversation. Fantastic.

You could try using a heatgun or a iron to warm up the mansory glue

mansory 🤣

Fibreglass removal...Saw once on a Roadrunner cartoon Wile E. Coyote remove it with Acme TNT....but it didnt end well! Ha Ha. I couldnt make my mind up regarding insulation. Yes it keeps the heat in (only under the windows), and the heat out in the summer...again only under the windows. But it also prevents the sun warming the bus up in winter and cooling down on a hot day through these body panels...so I didnt bother and things have been fine. I find the biggest problem is condensation on the inside of the windows on cold nights due to it being warmer inside the bus. Apparently the best way to avoid this is a slow burning wood stove as it dries out the air inside but any kind of gas heating, gas cooking generates moisture from combustion. So I bought a squeegee. Progressing well....keep it up Graham
@@grahamhickmott1957 ohhh good to know! The wall cavities are quite deep so I think I probably need to fill them with something. Good shout on the squeegee, will add it to my list of items to pack in the bus when the time comes. We are moving slowly but steadily forward!
Are you planning on travelling alone? Just that I didn't see any passenger seats in your layout. Passenger seats must have seatbelts and ideally be forward facing.
@@stevesmith3587 good question, I am planning on adding a second captain seat for a passenger in the cab next to the drivers seat. Then I’ll have space for a co pilot!
Is it ok to leave Betty with no insulation as it is winter?
@@lorrainesims2101 I don’t think it would be very good long term, although at the moment there is nothing inside that needs to be kept warm, but I’m also hoping not to leave her too long without any 😊 once I get the ceiling down then I can look at re insulating it all
Sounds like a good plan.
❤😊
What a fantastic little bus I love it, funnily enough I've been looking at buying one but wasn't sure of the weight issue etc, but you've wrapped it up nicely so now I'll start my search again, I did have a Luton van converted before until that caught fire grrrr lol new sub here and best of luck with the build and all I'll say is if you have a budget then forget it there's so many things I changed my mind on during the build it just went out the window 😂
@@leonwilks4114 thanks! Yes the decision on the type of vehicle was the longest but I’m so happy with my choice. I’ve got a vague number of 10k in mind for the build budget but honestly I’m happy to be a bit flexible for good quality. I will say that I also love a bargain and am looking at buying second hand materials and fixtures where possible so I’ll keep everyone posted on what that means financially.
Hi , liked and subbed .. Can i ask what you paid for the bus.. Thanks 👍
@@vrossi2596 thanks! I paid £5,500 for the bus and then had to add about £2,500 for immediate repairs/servicing/mot
@islandaimee16 likey thanks.. if you do a little mechanics course too you'll understand that car's van's etc aren't hard work and you'll be able to do most stuff yourself and film it.. good luck with your channel 👍
@ yes a very good idea! Definitely a course I want to take soon 😀
Good job, looks awesome!
@@daleclarke977 thanks!!
Do you like the front of your neck tickled
Hi, tip for the window tinting.. Peel a corner and stick to the window, repeat with the middle and other corner... Get your bank card and peel a couple of inches and smooth with your card all the way to the bottom removing the air bubbles.
Ohhh good tip, will try that when I end up re doing the ones that have air bubbles in them!
@islandaimee16 just peel it back to the bubble then scrap with your card, little at a time
@ brilliant I’ll try that!
Hiya the whole point of the trap is to stop sewage smells from coming back , also if you lift your sink up and seal under the lip you wont need to seal around the sink which in a short time will come up anyway , hope this helps
Just remember in the dark if you have lights on inside the film has the opposite effect people can clearly see in while you can't see out
Oh yes, once I’m using it I plan on having blinds or curtains, but for now as it’s in the car park I wanted to ensure that during the day it had some extra security.
Nice job 👌👍👍👍👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Such a great last shot of the sunset reflected in the new windows
Thanks it’s stunning isn’t it!

@ oh that’s so cool! Yes last year I did the house up which meant I could buy the van and do that this year. So far my top tip is that everything will take longer than you think. The downside of TH-cam is it makes it all look like it goes really smoothly 😂
@@islandaimee16 that's a good top tip, I'm usually quite impatient to get things done so I'll try to bear it in mind if it takes me 5 days to insulate! 😆

I see at 4 mins 38 sec's you say your sleeping position is from window to window ! Think this is wrong as what if you meet a very tall partner you wish to share your van life with you !! make your bed longer and enjoy the space while single if you are but make sure a taller person can give you cuddles with warm feet
Good point!
Hi Aimee, this may or maybe not be helpful, design you layout as to where you can fit the underside tanks, waste, grey ets, Are you going solar ? My favourite van builders are, True blue travellers, love sundays, brendan explores, they all say, look it up on youtube before you get it wrong, best wishes with the build,
Yes very good point, I’m aiming to have my fresh water, grey water and lpg gas tank under mounted so I need to make sure they all fit first and the weight is evenly distributed. I think I’ll probably add solar panels to the roof as I’m aiming to travel to mostly warm sunny place as rather than colder ones so will be useful to never run out of power. Oh great list of ppl to follow. I love True Blue Travellers but haven’t tried the others yet. Thanks for the tips! Should I do some tool talk Tuesday do you think???
The true blue travellers are brilliant and the vans they have done are amazing..
@ oh yes I love their channel and will be using a lot of their tips!
I think as a lady you need a wardrobe
Credit to you for doing the electrical course. No dodgy wiring and keep yourself safe. 👍
Swiftly becoming my favourite Sunday evening show. Do you have any plans for overhead cabinets?
Hehe thanks! Yes I forgot to mention that in the kitchen and bedroom areas there will be overhead cabinets for storage. They should just fit above the windows
@islandaimee16 gonna look so cool
Hi Aimee, Graham from Tasmania. Wow, an empty bus...the best bit...a blank canvas! Decisions decisions. May I offer some electrics tips. Everyone always thinks bus...solar power, batteries. I didnt bother. Partly the cost and not keen on drilling holes in my roof. I installed a 3000 watt 24volt Inverter and thats all I have needed. Plenty of power for most things you use in a bus these days. I wired a digital voltmeter across the batteries to check I dont flatten them and if they get low...start the engine. Best buy was a 24v Jump starter in case of flat batts and also a small petrol generator (size of a very small suitcase) for 240v in emergencies.....all up cost about $500 ( or 250 quid). Never used the genny yet ...but have needed to jump start occasionally...too much youtube LOL. As for heating I didnt bother with a diesel heater as its already installed in the bus...the engine. Try your heater on full on a cold day and in 15 minutes it will be too warm in there, trust me.. Finally, I opted for a single bed as just for me so maybe consider a King single to save some space? For super comfort I had to have a soft comfy recliner chair ...best thing I ever did...caravan type seats/bed conversion are not very comfortable. Just thought I'd chuck a few thoughts your way. By the way I was born in Croydon (Mayday Hospital) and lived in Addiscombe before emigrating in 1988. Spooky! Looking good so far. PS...Fuse everything electrical and install a CO and 2 smoke alarms...and keep a hammer handy to smash glass in emergency. Cheers G
Oh wow that’s a fantastic amount of information! So helpful! I’m over the moon you are watching from Tasmania and how small the world is that you have a Croydon connection. Thanks for the support!
Good luck with your build 😊
@@StarCaledonia thanks 😊
I’m embarking on a very similar project and would be grateful for a swap of tips! I’m sure would be helpful
@@geoffwatts5838 happy to share when I have some! So far slow and steady wins the race….😂
@ brilliant. What are your biggest concerns/anxieties about the build at the moment?
@ to be honest the amount of work. Will it be too much for one person and also the cost of materials. Will I be able to afford the materials I need at the time that I need them?
i think you will find it a bit easier to do with a build list project list its a large project you need a list
What are your plans for the bus
@@toddy3770 ohhh you’ll see soon but fixed bed, full kitchen, shower/toilet cubicle, sofa/dinette area. Fully off grid capable 😊

Thanks so much and good luck with yours!
Cool...youve made a start...thats the main thing. I had little setbacks like this with my conversion but it gets yer brain ticking over and thats not a bad thing. Its a marathon as you say so take each step at a time and enjoy the journey. Use the winter for working on Betty and next summer you'll be parked at a beach somewhere making brekky and enjoying the views and the freedom a bus brings. Still love those huge windows...it makes it warm up quickly on cold days...I can be in shorts n T shirt whilst outside people are all wrapped up LOL...love it! I often park at the beach when a big storm is coming and the wind rocks it about as the rain lashes the bus...and Im all warm dry n toasty inside having dinner watching it all happen...!! Good luck. Graham
Oh Graham sounds like you are living the dream!!! Thanks for the encouragement 😊
I think you got the right attitude every little thing how small you do is a little nearer to your goal. I’m looking forward to seeing it flourish. Remember though some bits you are dumping people may buy off you for there builds all adds to the bus fund 🤘
That’s so true! I’ve been surprised at what others are looking to buy and it’s been great knowing that things are being recycled
Looking forward to this 👍
@@daleclarke977 thanks!
Try to save and reinstall that floor. L-track opens a lot of possibilities for you. Take it from a sprinter owner who is bolting everything down. Also, you can insulate OVER that floor and not rip it up.
@@HybridBattery thanks for the advice! Let’s see what happens 😊
@@islandaimee16 I thought about it a little more. Here’s what I would do. L track needs to be anchored to the floor, so I would unbolt the floor and pull it out, add a 25mm layer of XPS (extruded polystyrene foam board) and then replace the floor by replacing all the bolts with ones that are 25 mm longer.
@@HybridBatteryfab, that’s super helpful!!
@@islandaimee16 oh, and the foil side of the foam board goes up.
Looking forward to watching your adventures as you build your camper. We have subscribed.
@@CampervanTales thanks!
Presumably the fibreglass shell helps keep the weight within the 3.5 ton limit on a standard driving license ? I imagine that because it was designed for passenger use it already has some level of thermal insulation/sound deadening in place. The existing floor and ceiling looks really tidy - I wouldn't rush to rip them out - why not use it as-is for a bit to see what you really need to do ?
@@rhiantaylor3446 exactly! That was a major factor in choosing this specific model so I could drive it on a normal license and it’s also automatic so double win! You make a really good point about the interior however I need to install solar panels and an extraction fan to the roof which means need access to the ceiling to reinforce and attach them. Similar for the floor, I plan on having under mounted water and gas tanks so it’s much easier to do from the top than from under the bus. I’ll be sharing the interior and services plan in the next couple of weeks and hopefully it will all make sense 😊
I have a friend that bought one of these ripping out the floor and sides is a monument task I know I helped him but it’s worth it. I will be watching to see you build her.
Yes the floor is the bit I’m most nervous about!
