Small utility trailer for garden tractor
I threw together a small utility trailer for the garden tractor. It's built to the wife's specs, since she'll be the one primarily using it. I decided to go the DIY route because I had most all the pieces laying around and it worked out to be a better price than anything(new or used) in my area. Also it gave me something to do.

Winch line replacement on the Wrangler
มุมมอง 4314 วันที่ผ่านมา
This time I'm replacing the winch line on the 2010 Jeep Wrangler. I've been pretty hard on my old steel wire rope so I decided to go with a synthetic rope this time. I'm running the Stegodon brand off Amazon. They get good reviews, so I figured I'd give them a shot. Hopefully I can put all those rigging classes to work and break my bad habits with winch line. @Chumley360 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @xisotopex IMHO, absolutely. I think any additional framework to the walls and roof would add to its strength. I'll probably end up doing something like that in the future. But for now I'm giving it time and watching for failures. So far it's working surprisingly well for what it is. And my lawn equipment doesn't seem to mind the few roof drips.

      Without putting my hands on it, it sounds like a few things. How do the plugs look; fuel wet, chalky, carboned or oil soaked? Those can send you in a direction. If you went the economical route on the fuel system parts, something could be bad. It's just an understood risk with those that they don't hold up and are often bad out of the box. Are the linkages adjusted properly? It's easy to get stuff out of place on reassembly. Have you done a compression test?

I used 1/2” steel tube and welded it with 3/16” stringers for canvas support. I added 1/6” steel wings 9” out at the operator seat. I converted a usb fan for my 12v seat plug and made a bracket for it. Works as planned, canvas is a little wonky but not too bad. Interesting to see how we employ different skills for our needs.

    I'm a little worried I might have to bleed my MC after replacing my hub (I'm stupid and never worked on or near brakes and did a lot of shit I shouldn't have), so in terms of difficulty, how hard would you say removing the MC is? It didn't look all that bad from the video. Roughly how long did it take you?

    • @Chumley360
      @Chumley360 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Removing the MC isn't bad, maybe a few hours of job plus time for a brake bleed. You shouldn't need to remove the MC for a basic system bleed. But depending on how empty everything got bleeding may take a while. Also, if the ABS block ran dry, that can cause a headache if you don't have a full-function scan tool to cycle the valves or some kind of forced system bleeder. I have not had to service a dry system on a WK2, so I can only guess baised on the other systems I have had experience with.

    • @Chumley360
      @Chumley360 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not on a Durango specifically. But in general a long extension, or multiple connected, and either/both a swivel socket or universal & shallow socket with an impact gun go a long way. Also dropping the trans cross member so things can droop a little also helps. Use jack to support things, be patient, and be OK working by feel for the upper bolts. It's a little tough to type out, but once you start you should be able to see the way. Another thing is that the trucks have a tapered cross member, so if the Durango also does it will be a royal PITA to knock it out of the way.

    There's a trick to solving the lower bearing In the column thing you mentioned, using a small sliced peice of old serpentine belt, it wedges into that section between the shifter and intermediate steering shaft and takes up that play that also can cause alittle steering slop outside of just plain bad gear boxes, I believe a ziptie will also hold it in place. But it wedges in so well it never comes out. Did it years ago. I believe someone else made a youtube video on it. Don't remember for sure but would be a good Content idea for ya, Appreciate the vid. They are motivational I'm doing a 5.9 timing cover gasket myself....

    • @Chumley360
      @Chumley360 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are correct about that part. I think I even saw a video where a piece of rubber and hose clamp. I spent a bunch of time looking it over while the bay was empty and found that the column to steering gear was reasonably fine. The part that I was messing with is where the auto shift linkage hooked up back when the truck was an auto. I guess it's a bit flobbly with nothing connected to it. Good luck with the gaskets.

      So far so good. I haven't noticed any noises or contact issues, so I'm calling it good.

    That Motor looks good I have a 5.9 Magnum in my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4×4 and thinking about replacing the intake manifold what's your thought about upgrading the intake ❓

    • @Chumley360
      @Chumley360 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! From the bits of research I did on the intake, replacement boils down to end use. The Barrel intake mods and aftermarket EFI intakes are all for more HP. Obviously if you go carb, then you're going in a whole other direction. If you use the truck in a manner that requires or utilizes torque then stick with the barrel intake. I opened/smoothed my intake ports and the throttle body, probably didn't do anything HP/TQ wise, but made me feel good. Also I'm having really good results with the Hughes ECU compatible cam. It was well worth the money.

    Did this help long term?

      In what way do you mean? I mean replacing a failing/bad master cylinder with a 100% functional one is always a winning ticket.

      @@Chumley360 ok I wasn’t sure you said it seemed to fix the issue. I know sometimes it’s hard to tell the source of some issues. Just wanted to see if the part replacement solved it and solved it completely.

      @@willied7759 Ahh, OK I'm with you now. Sorry about being vague with my words. Yes the MC was the culprit and a new one fixed the pedal fade issue.

    Bought one last year and I love it. You'll get the hang of it. No hydrostatic means a bit more power! You can add hydro later if you really want it.

    I agree, you do have to keep an eye on the weight. To counter this we went with a 1967 M416 military trailer. Both of our jeeps (her JKU and my JLU) work well with this set up. We do tent camp and keep the most of the weight in the trailer. The jeeps are still with stock suspension with the JK on 33s and the JL with 35s. Both are daily drivers and only become overlandy when the need arrises.

    Don't feel ashamed for not getting a hydrostat. The opposite should be true. Feel bad for anyone who can't operate a tractor and HAVE to get a hydrostat. Feel proud. You picked the best. The GEARED tractor puts 300% power to the ground. Meaning it will pull 3x what a hydrostat will pull. Those who can't operate a tractor and have to go with the MANBUN of tractors give up the true potential of a tractor. Congrats on not drinking the yuppie hydrostat coolaid!

      Overall I've been happy with the manual and the tractor. I just need some weights for it now.

    So what about the JL? Not much of a difference there either.

    • @Chumley360
      @Chumley360 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      As I stated, I honestly didn't look into the JL. I saw more JK stuff in forums and feeds, probably since I own one. But yeah, I can't see their payloads being significantly better than the JK. The Gladiator platform would be the way to go if you want Wrangler looks and the ability to carry more than a Happy Meal. But then you start getting into wheelbase issues. People can build what they want, I just had about a months worth of feed full of "Overland Jeep" content and it was 80% JKs, and I had to wonder "Why?".

    I'll take that manual any day over the hydro, although the hydro is easy on your back, but sucks out in field going constant speed

    • @homesteadbarron
      @homesteadbarron 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A manual transmission is hands down the best. Do not get suckered into buying a hydro because you have a bad back. There is a power shuttle shift standard transmission. Where it's all Gear Drive and has an electronic shifter located on the left of the steering wheel. Don't drink the Kool-Aid and buy a hydro in loose 70% of your pulling power
