Why did you cut the thick comb? Also the frame of honey looks great
They drew out the wax way past the frame since I am running 9frames in my supers. I run plastic foundation so I cut the wax off both sides and put them into an extractor. The cut off wax and honey is also processed in my cappings tank.
👋 hi from central Otago southern New Zealand 👋 it's Mid winter here so its nice to watch a great nectar flow going on 😂
How cold do your winters get? Pretty soon I’ll begin winter prep :(
@@zeesbees Im in the mountains so it can get pretty cold it's -3celcius / 26f tonight but we have got down to -20 Celcius/-4f in the past 😂
What state are you in? Nice vid. Subbed.
Thank you! I’m in the Fox Valley region of Wisconsin
Lovely to watch.. your bees are rocking!!!
Thank you!
Good video! Where are you located?
Fox Valley area of Wisconsin
Where are you? Down here in Dane county we have had way to much rain, my hives just are not productive yet.
In the Appleton area, so far the weather has been pretty good, wet, but not like down by you. I hope you hit a nice dry spell down there!
What bees are yours Carni or Italian?
Italian
W music choice
If your brood box is full, do you suggest another brood box or add the super box on top? Seeing mixed messages.
I run two deep brood boxes, if the queen had packed both with brood I may consider splitting, if the two brood boxes are full and there is a nectar flow and there are no signs of swarming I put on honey supers. This is what I choose to do, there are a lot of people running single deep colonies
Nice video guy. Simple, yet mildly entertaining. I think my favorite thing in the entire video is your "cannabis themed decor" that you have under the hive there. Good deal. Looking good. Most of our cannabis here in Arizona usually looks like this ------>> 🌵. . .😕 Hails from Arizona, U.S.A. 😈
I'm new to this. I didn't think drones went off to work.
The comment was made in jest… the “work” of trying to find a queen to mate with
@@zeesbees ahh. As a newcomer, it flew right over my head.
Maybe hard at finding virgin queens out there?
I'm not a beekeeper but I'm pretty sure DRONES don't work. They screw and die or just die.
Correct, they are coming back after a day of looking for a queen to mate with. Drones will make a bunch of flights in hopes of finding a queen that will essentially end his life
I really enjoy your videos! Thank you!
Thank you!
Is it not 3feet 3miles!
Have you Tried Russian Querns yet From the Russian breeding program? Russians love Wisconsin.
👍
Hi from Texas.
Hello there!
Nice looking boxes. What do you treat them with?
Two coats of PPG Proluxe 072
I am working on a project for Cook County looking as suburban food production and food access. Is there a chance we can talk about your hard work supporting bees and pollinators? I wasn't sure the best way to reach out.
I know this is from months ago. I always feed a new swarm to help lock them in the box as well as to continue to build new comb. South Central WI.
Great job look like you an your bees are on the way to a great season . Good luck.
If there is a queen cell, does that mean the hive is sensing they need a new queen? Is it fairly common for them to raise queens and you have to stop it?
I believe this was just an emergency cell given the time of year.
“Molly loves spending extra time down here.” 😂
I really enjoy your videos! Great work!
Awesome, thank you!
What does the term drawing out mean?
Drawing out is when the bees build wax comb on the plastic foundation. They draw out the wax to then store nectar, pollen, brood.
Love the vid!
Do you guys use Russian bees at all?
I have all Italian, I know some in this area have Russian, but most are Italian, carniolans, and buckfast.
A virgin queen flight? They all came back with a queen?
I think this is a very good possibility, I did requeen one of my hives using a queen cell. I haven’t been going into the hive to allow for time to go on mating flight and lay.
In the bottom row its darker and bigger then others and walks slower to
I see it it was way bigger
Hi first comment pin pls👉👈
No I don’t
Can you do a turtle next?
Hint: the queen has a longer body than the worker bees
Found her!!
Where I’m blind
She stays near the bottom and bottom left, you can see some bees following her.
She’s also the biggest bee there
it's so cute to see them bury their face in the frame.
Mine are going nuts too. I installed my nuc April 29th and already I had to put on my second deep brood box for them. Love it.
Awesome! Did you have drawn comb or fresh foundation?
@@zeesbees Drawn in the nuc but fresh foundation for the rest of the box
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 First again! Biggest fan here🤘🤘🤘😳😎
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 First 🤘🤘🤘😳😎
Why treat with apivar in the spring? How long do you do so? And what about honey collection?
I like to treat when getting a nuc since they are likely to have significant mite exposure in the large bee yards. I pull well before adding any honey supers and treat OA vapor in fall 3-4 times. I was able to get mites loads below 1% and had 4 out of 4 hives survive a Wisconsin winter.
How many hives did you install today?
4 total! Not the best weather but all the Nucs looked great
Looks good. What is that you are using in the quilt box? Interesting.
It’s essentially a pillow case with pine shavings to absorb moisture. I switch them several times as they become saturated.
võimas
big production from one hive , good djob
I live in Michigan second yr bee keeper when do you think the honey flow will end? thanks for the content!
My experience with “The Midwest” or Northern US states is that the flow doesn’t really stop till September. Unlike the south there isn’t typically a terrible dearth. I find that there is a heavy flow around June and then a heavy flow when golden rod hits. September is what I would say is the end of the flow.
@@zeesbees thank you so much I appreciate you zee
That's a big stack of honey. Wish they would all do that. LOL
I may be mistaken, but I think you put two different hives together in one box.
That was my initial thought too(two separate hives) but when the cluster which had been under the hive moved to the box and started moving in I realized it was one hive with one queen. They are doing great in their new hive. Thanks for watching!
@@zeesbees Thanks, I missed that.
What's your location? What state
