Awe, dear Nathaniel ❤️ I grew up with his dad who was a great friend! I haven’t see Nathaniel since his dad’s funeral bc I have disabilities but all our friends go to his concerts and are backstage with him every time! When Nathaniel’s dad was diagnosed with 2 kinds of cancer at age 20 he was devastated! Buddy (Nathaniel’s dad) and I would talk on the phone and he would cry bc he has a baby on the way and he wanted to live! He left the Hosp to go home and die with only days to live. Nathaniel’s parents went to a little church where they prayed for him and Buddy was healed!!! Nathaniel’s sister was born and later Nathaniel came along! When Buddy was 37 he was broadsided in an accident and killed. Buddy Rateliff spent 17 years telling everyone about Jesus!!! Nathaniel never would have been born if God had not miraculously healed his dad when he was 20 years old! I live amongst the Rateliff relatives and they are a hoot! Buddy was such a friendly and kind guy just like his son. Nathaniel looks just like his dad! It is precious to us who know him. ❤️

I love this song but it upsets me that a lot of singers miss out the most moving, the most heart-wrenching verses. The verses that truly made this song legendary throughout the world are the verses many people have a problem with. Which is sad. Cohen himself was more charitable than I am, however. As he wrote in the third verse (sung here) "There's a blaze of light in every word, It doesn't matter which you heard, The holy or the broken Hallelujah" To me it DOES matter. But Cohen actually didn't mind all that much. I will try to me more forgiving. I'll include two of the missing verses here (though Cohen wrote around 80 to 100 verses. I understand he spent at least a year and half of his life just writing this song): There was a time you let me know What's really going on below But now you never show it to me, do you? And remember when I moved in you The holy dove was moving too And every breath we drew was Hallelujah Maybe there's a God above But all I've ever learned from love Was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you And it's not a cry that you hear at night It's not somebody who's seen the light It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

I would be nervous too, it's Leonard's song. But he'd be proud of this performance.
