Man so many great memories seeing planes. Love the new album, thanks guys!
You're very welcome!! Thanks for listening 🫡
great interview, my favorite album released last year. Was hoping to hear more details about the track closer to god but glad he went into depth on a little of myself and with you in spirit as I think the last few tracks just continue to hit harder the more you listen to the record.
Hell yeah, thanks for checking it out! I definitely had "closer to god" on my notes for our chat, but once he went in on "a little of myself," I kind of just let him dig into his process for that one and those darker Side B tracks. Such a great record, though. Stoked to have B&C back!!
Great podcast! Spiral in a straight line is such a fantastic album. I also loved the statement “so eloquent in your neurosis”
Haha hell yeah! Thanks for checking us out. Jeremy is a natural and their new record is killer!
Such a great f**king interview. Can tell you're a true STYG fan and well-read, which made for excellent questions and topics. 27:35 - 28:33 Amen 45:40 - 47:20 Hell yea
Thanks mate! Appreciate you checking out the show. I've definitely been a big STYG head for years now, ever since I saw the clip for "This Is More" on someone's MySpace page haha
5:27 I try to explain this point to a lot of STYG fans who didn't get STYG's path to where they are now. There's no way the band that wrote songs like Amber or Forever Against Them All (or anything else) wasn't going to eventually reach politically-heated topics. The band has always been relentless, committed, and driven towards understanding & fighting injustice in the world. It could never end at just the first few topics they explored on an early album.
Totally agree! The radical ideas were there from the very first record and they've just matured over time. If anything, it's just language that's become more explicit and pointed, which is always welcome in hardcore.
Thanks for a great interview with Billy K!
You're very welcome! Bill's a total legend and a great hang 🫡
I'm not saying that anyone is a replacement for Gared, but if these guys ever decide to do something live in tribute to Gared...Brock Lindow is a vocalist that comes to mind that would fit the bill as close as possible... Especially since Gared & Lindow are heavy vibrato in their crooning. Not the same vocal range of course as Gared is gutteral, but who knows. I'm sure others come to mind
I love Brock's vocals, especially on the earlier 36CF records but he still strikes me as a little too clean for the type of grit and visceral quality of the Planes material. If I had my own personal choice, it'd be Wade from Alexisonfire. Feels like a natural fit in my head.
Great episode, very emotionally charged. I saw planes 5 times, and this last posthumous album is beyond beautiful and heart wrenching. Ive been listening to it over and over. Gared was a force of nature and his persona was bigger than life. A opened vessel. Thank you sharing mike and chuck. I remember gared kissing me on the lips when the band i was in covered rat patrol on our reunion show in denver and hiw he helped me sing values here cos my voice was gone in 2008 at a show we did together.❤
An opened vessel is a great descriptor. He was a truly unique, singular talent 🖤
OMG the shoutout at 3:27 Love ya legend, Great person, great merchie!
Haha yes!! She's a real one 🫡

Glad Crush++ made this list. Everyone needs to stop sleeping on this band so they get big enough to tour here!
100%. My absolute favourite find this year. They deserve to be huge 🙏🏼
Great podcast! First time I’ve seen The Pitch of Discontent but I’ll definitely watch more in the future. You and Jesse vibed so well and covered soo many important points! I’m really looking forward to Keep Planting Flowers, especially after hearing the explanation behind the name. Ka mau te wehi tō mahi koutou, awesome work all of you! Much love from New Zealand
Cheers mate! Glad you're enjoying the show. This was one of our favourite interviews this year, and having Jesse go off on stuff he's passionate about was lots of fun. Stick around for 2025! 🫡
@ Tino pai! Great stuff mate!
Oh man! I was at that panel and at that gig. So freaking awsum! Had the best time!!
Incredible show/panel! So many cool insights into Claudio's creative process.
very cool interview. Loved the questions. Hail Satan!
Hell yeah! Thanks for checking it out 🫡🤘🏼
Man, he really likes the Afterman stuff! 2's My Favorite One and Gravity's Union are some of my favorites too
He sure does! Shouted out Gravity's Union specifically a bunch of times in the festival Q&A panel, too.
He and Josh both frequently say that Gravity's Union is one of their favorite Coheed tracks. I don't understand why they don't play it live more.
I'm so glad to hear that, I love their songs.
Same here! The new record is exactly what I want from a mature Gaslight Anthem, not just nostalgia bait.
@@TPDPod Absolutely! But I figured they'd never go down that path, they've always tried to push their sound. The cash-grab would be to just keep doing something similar to the 59 sound and never challenge themselves. It's not their style though, thankfully.
Agreed! Alway staying true to what they do 🫡
Ela eh a melhor!!! Adoro os gritos dela!!!
Claro que sim, ela é uma fera no microfone!!
So good mate ❤
Thank you, sir 🫡
The Gaslight Anthem is my favorite band.
That's what's up 🫡
Sweet interview mate! You can hear the love. So cool how Claud keeps dropping little nuggets of lore and stories about how the songs come together. Love it!
Thanks for checking it out! Glad you enjoyed it 🙏🏼
As a 40 yo womxn who fell in love with moshing and metal at 12 yo, I'm so proud and I love her. I'm a writer and I love to sing but I'm so shy and never started a band like I wanted to. She is so fantastic and talented and I hope she inspires other women to go for it. ✊
Hell yeah, this rocks!! Bec's crazy talented and a total inspiration 💁🏽♀️💅🏼
Great Interview. Loved learning about the background of the songs on this great album. Jon is truly a great songwriter..
Hell yeah, stoked you enjoyed it! Jon's lyrics are some of my all-time favourites. Getting to dig into the meaning and songwriting is the best part.
Brilliant interview

Sultan's Curse Riff is 1 of my faves, thicc riffage 👌Go Bill
Hugeeeee riff!! "Roots Remain" is another banger cut from that record, too.
Ashes of Leviathan tour was epic, Kerry King too (and Unearth)! Happy I got to see Leviathan album played through 100% it came out when I was 14! 🐳🐋🐳 and has been a top album for 20yrs! Mastodon Rocks 🤘
A classic record from front to back. The opening riff of "Blood and Thunder" is so iconic! 🐳🫡
This was great! The new record completely kicked my arse, a really hard but beautiful listen x

This band has the perfect blend of all metal music. Got to meet Joe as well. Cool dude!
Agreed! The new record really does blend every aspect of the band into its best possible form. And Joe's a total legend. Super nice guy!!
"Pitch of Discontent bump." First time listener and peeped the 175 subs. I enjoy your humor, will check out more.
Hell yeah!! Thanks for checking out the show! Insert "big things coming" here 😎
that is wargasm(UK) Wargasm is a band from the USA who formed in 1985 and released and rereleased several albums. wargasm(UK) formed in 2018 and after being informed the name was already being used they disregarded that and continued to use it.
True! I wasn't familiar with the original band, but it looks like they've been confused before (most notably with the UK band on the Download Festival lineup in 2022). Apparently they took the name from an L7 song, and likely weren't aware of the original until they picked up some momentum. Evidently it pays to do your research!
@@TPDPod thats bull shit WargasmUK was contacted by the USA WARGASM in 2019 and told the name was taken already you can make excuses for them all you want but i am friends with the USA WARGASM we had a legnthy discussion about it he sent them a cease and desist letter and they ignored it. they are arrogant fucks and as long as people like you continue to not add the UK to their name i will be here posting about it. ALL THEY HAD TO DO IS GOOGLE THE NAME in 2018 when they were formed and the L7 song came after WARGASM USA was a active band. excuses are like AXXholes we all have one and they all stink. i have been in bands since my teens and whenever we discovered a band already using our name WE CHANGED THE FUCKING BANDS NAME.
Look who's still crying
