    Director actuly wanted to make audiodiscription, but they were already on ultra low budget for animated film. The french production company just wanted to push the film out as fast as possible to get money back, they never believed in any succes only screanings in festivals.

      It isn’t 100% on the director. There is a distributor of some kind putting this into theatres. There are festivals and guilds that have accessibility requirements. Not all, but these little choices can make all the difference. One of my guilds had a list of ineligible titles based on access to screenings. Flow could lose out simply by not having accessibility. i don’t like leaning on too many excuses when it comes to segregating disabled viewers into what they can and cannot experience based on the presence or lack of accessibility. We’re in 2024, and we have space tourism. Asking for an accessibility function that has been around for decades. It is good to know the director at least thought about it.

    I just saw it after I played "set Plex to random and see what comes up". Hilariously, the previous movie was The Bodyguard. So we got a Kevin Costner double feature. Honestly... I don't get his appeal. How was that guy ever a movie star. He's okay looking but has zero charisma.

    Let me see if I've got this right. A planet controlled by this massive corporation doesn't have any type of early warning system to detect any ships coming into orbit of the planet. A group of teens/young adults somehow have control of an operational space craft and somehow, they've managed to detect the incoming vessel. Some low life mine worker manages to get his hands on a damaged synthetic and he restores it as a guard dog for his daughter. I could go on and on, but I think anyone reading this gets the picture. You've got a movie based on an interesting idea, but the folks responsible for making this movie couldn't be bothered to flesh out said idea with a believable story.

      Depends on which cut you have of Alien 3, lol. The original theatrical that David Fincher hates is definitely not. I’d put Romulus about equal to Covenant. Certainly ahead of the AVP films, and the original theatrical of Alien 3, and Alien: Resurrection, but definitely behind Alien, Aliens, Prometheus, and the Director’s Cut of Alien 3. But, thanks for swing by for a chat.

      @@macthemovieguy The franchise was killed by Sigourney Weaver, an anti-gun liberal. She loathed having to work with guns on ALIENS, there's even footage of her on TH-cam recoiling in disgust from the gun prop after shooting a scene. The original ALIEN 3 script as written by NEUROMANCER author William Gibson was going to be a a three-way fight between the Space Marines, Space Communists - I kid you not - and the Aliens all on a space station. With the collapse of the USSR in 1989 it was felt the Reds were no longer topical so they changed script. Sigourney Weaver became a producer for ALIEN 3 on the basis it have no guns and her character be killed off. Weaver had final say on the script. I have a feeling she was also behind the death of Newt and Corporal Hicks. Michael Biehn said he got a call from Weaver informing him they were cutting his character but she did not say why. When actors are producers on their own films, they usually make them into valentines to themselves (see William Shatner, STAR TREK V: THE FINAL FRONTIER). Having the movie gun-free drove the prison setting plot, which was originally a monastery planet. Killing "my baby" as Ripley calls it is an abortion sub-plot. Ripley going out arms spread like Christ on the cross is about as self-loving as ii gets. Weaver got over her desire to never act in an ALIEN film again when she came on as co-producer again for ALIEN RESURRECTION 5 years later. I guess she wanted a second home in Malibu or something. She was paid $11 million, double her Alien 3 salary five years earlier.

  • @edwardrichardson8254
    @edwardrichardson8254 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

    The first two ALIEN films ran on a simple formula using a double climax. Protagonist thinks she has blown up the threat, but it is onboard her escape vessel and reveals itself in her most unguarded moment for the final showdown. For the record, ALIEN RESURRECTION repeated this recipe. Because PROMETHEUS AND COVENANT took the franchise in a direction many disliked, Fede simply went retro, a calling he is all too familiar with given his acclaimed remake of EVIL DEAD. However, he geeked out and took the retro too far and his homages to the past felt more like juvenile efforts at best, manipulative nostalgia at worst. There is a terrible feeling in your gut when the android repeats the iconic line GET AWAY FROM HER YOU B I T C H! Fede even steals from himself by later ripping the line DIE MOTHER EFFER! from his EVIL DEAD remake. Worst of all is the use of the original alien resurrected from his cocoon only to be used as a lifeless prop as the Ash clone narrates a pile of expository dialogue. If you are going to have the OG in the film, use the OG as the main threat. For a film that touted old-school special effects endlessly, the aliens are overwhelmingly CGI, giving the movie a video game feel. They are never scary, there is little to no dread like the first movie, and the final baddie is simply ridiculous. The high point is the tremendous visuals of the station crashing into the rings and the protagonist's final showdown where she crashes the cargo hold into the rings. The rings sequences reminded me of SATURN 3 and the gorgeous ring sequences in AD ASTRA. It gives the movie that new world feeling we had when watching ice planets, asteroid fields, and swamp worlds in THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. The biggest problem for the franchise is the alien suffers now from the same thing that vampire, Frankenstein, and werewolf movies suffer from: we are so familiar with them, they invoke little terror. The challenge for these movies now is to present them in a fresh way, tweak it a little as the JURASSIC PARK franchise did when T-Rex got boring and they invented the Indominus Rex. The franchise is not going anywhere, it made money after Disney's horrendous INDIANA JONES movie nauseated everyone. Likely they will let Fede direct again, I just hope the next formula is not back to the future, they need to take it forward into fresh material.

    • @macthemovieguy
      @macthemovieguy 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Damn. That’s a full review in the comments. Love it. Thanks for taking the time. I think Fede has some interesting ideas, but he’s constantly tackling these franchises where at least one (if not more than one) film in the series really can’t be toppled. He was never going to topple Raimi.

Plus, being able to see these FYC campaigns gives a lot of perspective on how much a single title is being pushed forward, and for what. Like, the FYC I got for Sing Sing could have listed multiple supporting actor possibilities, but they’re just pushing one name. Maria, also isn’t running acting campaigns for any of the supporting cast. Stuff like that. But, thanks for the compliment. Much appreciated.

    Hey John! Thanks so much for taking the time to review our film. We wanted to sincerely apologize for not having an audio description. This was an ultra-low-budget indie film with a skeleton crew, and we dropped the ball when it came to allocating funds for this. After you requested this through our publicist, we've reached out to some companies that provide this service and are working on getting an audio description file created. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Again, greatly appreciate your kind words and review!

      I was happy to give your movie coverage either way. I think a lot of people just aren’t immediately always thinking about accessibility they don’t need/use, and unless you’re running through a major distributor that puts it on all their titles regularly, I see how this slips through the cracks. I’ve actually been here before, so the same offer goes out to you as previous filmmakers who added audio description to their film after my initial review. If you do add it, send me an updated screener, and I’ll post another review if you want, with the audio description taking it all into account. Either way, best wishes for this film finding an audience.

    no offense im seriously wondering how did you watch the film if your blind?

    • @macthemovieguy
      @macthemovieguy 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question. The quick answer is an accessibility feature typically referred to as audio description. Much like how deaf/hearing impaired individuals has captioning, blind/low vision users have audio description, which works as a secondary audio track that plays along with the movie. If you’ve heard director’s commentary, that would be a secondary audio track, as would be if cuckoo had been available in another language with dubbed audio. For audio description, it fills in the gaps where dialogue isn’t answering all of the questions, like what a character might look like, entrances and exits, action sequences, gore, scary monsters, and helps to bridge the gap by using a lot of the breaks in dialogue. A good track won’t trample any dialogue. This title had available audio description, as most theatrically released movies from a major studio do nowadays. I also was able to see for the first 34 years of my life, where I went through film school, so I ahve a fairly decent grasp of the art form. I love having these questions because lots of blind and low vision users still watch tV and Film, and I’m not sure anyone actually realizes that. Appreciate you.

    The reason Gibbs had to leave his family is because he was in the Marine Corps at the time and had to deploy to the Gulf War. Mike Franks the redneck agent you liked found out the location of the drug dealer who murdered Gibbs wife and kid and tells him. Gibbs tracks the guy down in Mexico and murders him with a sniper attack which Franks is about the only other person who knows. I'm not sure but I think this happened before the pilot episode prior to Franks recruiting Gibbs to leave the Marine Corps and become an agent. Franks was the agent who investigated the murder of Gibbs family while Gibbs was in the Gulf War. NCIS isn't just a murder of week police procedural, It has a lot of long term story arcs too.

    yet another great review! what are some of your favorite horror movies you’ve seen as sighted, that have terrible audio descriptions?

      The Terminator comes to mind. The audio description Amazon has for it is atrocious. That stands out to me as something I’ve seen and then also had to listen to. Though, it is far more frustrating to see a lack of audio description on certain titles, like the original Scream, or to hear audio description that was poorly transferred (Sinister) or poorly made from the start (In A Violent Nature). Horror movies have a lot of opportunity to be really great, as there’s often a lot to describe, and often specific timing in which to do so. It can really showcase great talent, but also reveals people who shouldn’t be working in the industry.

      Keeping the dream alive. I like it. Personally, I’d be really excited if he abandoned his current path and went back to his roots here, and maybe tried remaking Day Of The Dead. I wonder if he even remembers what he did right in this movie, since his style is so different now.

      I assumed eventually the audio description would get uploaded, it was just that they missed the first two episodes at time of launch. they film these so far in advance, not porting audio description just feels lazy.

    dude it means the world to me that my favorite critic also happens to be super trans positive and also not afraid to still talk about the movie. i love how you don’t dance around the topics of the movie as a cis guy, but you’re still respectful and mindful of the trans experience! great review

    dude i love your perspectives. this is the best critic channel i’ve found in a long time. you rule. you’re 15 times more literate in cinema than every major critic on this platform.i hope you keep doing what ur doing. you also have a fantastic voice.
