    You are a genius. Thank you! I've been trying to figure out how to add a thimble mid-line and I am trying this now.

  • @zoobiewa

    So you keep the ends loose and taped? Rather than burying them into the line?

    Are you using galvanized or stainless thimbles?

    Have you heard or have any information of how much this maintains the strength/load rating of the rope? I never thought of doing this but now you’ve given me too many ideas of how to use it.

    Thank you. So if I understand, the first tuck of each strand end does not evolve an over and under? I'd love you to reply please xxx

    the rubber will lose 80 to 95% of its weight in the water, thats a lot you would never think that

    in uk we call that a foot rope, what we call sweeps the ground gear between net and door, sweeps or bridles

  • @donibravo1452
    @donibravo1452 ปีที่แล้ว

    it is not good to pull the rope through the cable, in that place it always remains wet and susceptible to corrosion, and in 80 percent of cases it breaks at the mark, especially if they are not stainless steel cables... there is a much better and faster way

    I don't understand WHY you put a whip on the end you need free to do a proper splice BEFORE you did the splice. I was taught year ago by Coast Guard bo'suns that you splice first, then whip.

    "If it looks a little lumpy, just take it in your hands and give it roll!" Same advice my Dr gave me!!!😉 But seriously, nice clear, to the point vid. I'm pretty good with my knots but always been a bit intimidated by eye/thimble splicing, just felt I'd lose track of the strands half way through, & it'd be time consuming, would always take the easy way out & whip the tag to the standing, (in much smaller dia rope/cord) but this seems pretty simple to follow and I understand it's the proper way to do it, much more permanent & secure. Will definitely give it a try. Cheers 👍🍻

    What happens if the seals dry out? Could that cause the return speed to decrease? I have a se2bil hydraulic pacerpump that was run dry, and now it only delivers 600 liter pr. minut instead of 900 liter pr.minut

    What do you do with the dangles?

    • @SeaGearMarineSupply
      @SeaGearMarineSupply 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can trim them back a bit! but not too much, you need some tag end. Thats what keeps the splice from coming undone

  • @bobrees4363
    @bobrees4363 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The two BM1's that taught me how to splice line in 1985, told me three tucks for manila or other natural cordage; four for synthetics. The synthetics being slicker you need more tucks to hold.

    Great - I like the tip you gave about starting at top dead center at 2:43. I think that first tuck is most critical to getting a splice that lays properly at the apex of the thimble. Thanks.
