Thunder in Tourist Creek - Gannett Peak, WY
An August 2024 attempt of Wyoming's tallest peak via Tourist Creek (Wyoming's easiest approach)
~38 miles RT with 4,800' elevation gain
Didn't make it near as far as we'd hoped, but several rounds of thunderstorms would've left us far above tree line an extra day had we not turned around. Mother nature rules, but we'll be back

Granite Peak, Montana - Southwest Ramp Route
มุมมอง 2.3K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
Early Sept. 2023 At 12,807 ft, Granite Peak stands as the tallest point in Montana and one of the more difficult 50 state high points. The Southwest Ramp route begins at the TH off Lulu Pass, just north of Cooke City. This was hands down the best overnighter I've done - strangely perfect weather and miles and miles of stream-crossed hills and meadows helped the 50 lb pack melt away. (almost) In...
Winter Defeat on Long's Peak - High Winds in The Trough
มุมมอง 1.5Kปีที่แล้ว
April 6-7 Long's Peak attempt via Glacier Gorge TH and The Trough The plan was to make an attempt on Long's after an overnight at Black Lake, but 12 inches of unforeseen snow and 40mph gusts raised several concerns along the route. Following the 4.8 mile hike to camp, a fitful night of sleep, and an earnest push up the first section of the Trough early the next morning, I made the call to save ...
Bushwacking on Tour - Cathedral Rock - Tucson, AZ
มุมมอง 3552 ปีที่แล้ว
Following our second show on the People in Motion Fall tour, we had a few off days in the Catalina foothills of Tucson. A morning hike through Sabino Canyon revealed Cathedral Rock far off in the distance, and the next day I found myself at the Esperero Canyon trailhead, ready to attempt the ascent in full. Distance: 18.5 miles Elevation Gain: 5,400ft Time: 11 hours Lesson: learned
The Ultra Winter 7000
มุมมอง 3632 ปีที่แล้ว
This is the story of a 7,380 mile, 10 state, 4 week solo road trip in a humble Nissan Xterra. From summit to sea, frigid peak to lowly desert, and smooth highway to rocky canyon road, the Ultra Winter 7000 was a journey of challenge and discovery. I camped, cooked, slept, and traveled from the Xterra, opening up innumerable opportunities to see what the backroads had to offer. The incredible na...
Mt. St. Helens - Solo Winter Ascent

Sphinx Mountain, Montana - Solo Winter Ascent

Mistakes were made, spirits were high, hearts were won Sphinx Mountain winter ascent on February 7, 2022 Madison Range - Madison County, MT Camped at the Bear Creek trailhead for a later than expected start. The snow was deep - luckily a skier had packed down a majority of the route a day or two earlier. A wrong turn or two and several hours later, I was able to make the summit and descend back...

Kudos for the effort & the decision to turn back. Make sure that you get airflow in that tent while running your stove- carbon monoxide is for real. Cheers- I enjoy the video.

I would not say that that Tourist Creek is the "easiest" path, there is a reason why guided tours are from the other side of the range. I had a failed attempt last year due to weather as well, but don't give up, it is worth it! We were able to summit a few weeks ago! It was a good call to pull the plug, getting caught in weather up there can be dangerous. Looking forward to seeing your next attempt!

Had a failed attempt early August 2023 due to weather. Do you think this would have been possible had it not been icy at that last part? Or would it still have been safer to turn back even with dry rock?

Without ice I would've been much more comfortable with it! The ice and exposure were just beyond my skill limits at the time, but it's certainly doable
