Revamping a Round Table with a Sleek Mid-Century Modern Base
มุมมอง 7Kปีที่แล้ว
In this video I take a pre existing table top that had defects and cracks from the manufacturer and turn it into one of my favorite builds to date! I wasn't sure this top was saveable, let alone even made from real wood when I took on the project. Once past the caked on finish I was able to transform this oak into what the client referred to as an heirloom piece. #midcenturymodern #handmade #cu...

It's great to see all the steps and care you go to in the conversion. Regards - James
Appreciate the support!
Bruh, I love the wallpaper. Nice work on everything so far. Can’t wait to see the finished inside.
Thank you! Working on the edit for the next one at the moment!
Wow! You are amazing!
Thank you! It's been a lot of work!
Great Job! Keep up the good work JRut
Much appreciated!
Can you tell me what foam board you used for the subfloor inside the framing? I see you went back & put in soundproofing felt underneath.
I linked the foam board I used in the description. Yes I got some hardwood floor felt underlayment that really helped with road noise and also added insulation
I can not believe you cut up that beautiful piece of spalted wood.
I used the better half and kept it whole for a vanity and I enjoy using the bench every day
Looks awesome Joey!
Thank you!!
Coffee❤
Gotta love it
It’s looking great so far dude! Happy for you guys! Can’t wait for yall to be able to travel in it and make memories along the way! Stay safe you guys !
Thanks! It’s going to be fun. Maybe we’ll make it out your way! Not in the summer tho 🤣
I hope you will put another layer (one piece) of radiant insulation with an air gap to optimize the insulation property and cover all the metal parts to avoid thermal bridging.
That is the plan but I am going to be running the electrical beforehand!
So cool!! Can’t wait to see the progress
Thanks I’m looking forward to it
Nice build 🔥
Thank you 🤙🏼
Can’t wait 😉
😎
Im researching at this point and share the same sentiment on making memories with my dogs and girl as well! Following your journey to encourage mine!
Definitely. We’re super excited to hit the road!
Super cool!
Thanks 🤙🏼
I had already subscribed, but if I hadn't, the 1st use of a traditional bench with an electric plane would've sealed the deal.
Love to hear it 😂😂😂 thank you for the support!
Do u have plans for this
No unfortunately I don’t.
Nice
Thank you!
Red Elm….yeah. My game plan when I work with it is to get a finish on it as soon as possible to help mitigate any movement. It’s one wood that I won’t cut parts for a project and then let them sit in the shop for a week. It is pretty though.
That’s probably the only way I’d take it on again with something this size. Yes it is
Dogs. Great job it turned out amazing
Good choice. Thank you 🤙🏼
Great job it looks great
Thank you!
Awesome job! ☺️
Thank you! 😄
I love it!
Thank you!
great job JRut!
Thank you!
Great video!
Thanks!
*promo sm*
For sure
How many hours did it take?
Roughly 4 hours with the laser engraving
Great idea
Glad you think so!
Hi That was an epic table build and I loved the video. Just found your channel and worthy of a subscription. Regards James One Handed Maker - Australia
I’m glad you liked it and thank you for the support I really appreciate it!
That is so badass
Thank you sir!
Oh yes yes yes, wow wow wow, woah woah woah, man oh man oh man oh man, are these some out of this world gifts!!! This guy right here is truly a master of his craft. Hands down the Tiger Woods of wood crafting. I would rather go through him than IKEA any day because you know with J Rut Studios, you are getting top tier quality.
Thank you for your support. It means a lot!
Hell yeah brother!
🤙🏼
Awesome way to save money too
It sure is!
Do u have plans on this
I don’t currently have plans for this but may put some together in the future if there’s enough interest
I used that hardware for a book press that I made for my wife
Lots of good uses for them.
Nice work, Joe! Question: what made you decide on the dog hole spacing? Is that standard of was it more about symmetry?
Thank you. I tried to make it symmetrical but also not have to have a large distance between holes. I believe I did 2” from the edge and 4” between holes? Depending what kind of accessories you want to use I would plan it out according to them. A lot of people go with the Festool MFT spacing
ˢᵘᵇ this may be a stupid question, but I’m just starting to build furniture, so bear with me: if you used the same template for both sets of legs, does it not look uneven from a diagonal at the glue point of all the legs? Would it weaken the wood too much to mount the second set flush to the first pair without that extra tab?
I used the same template for all the legs, I took half the thickness off 2 of the legs to keep it square. You can also use the template the same for all of them and have a square core to attach them all to if that makes sense.
YYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much!!!!! I have been looking for this very specific content! You are the best and you always deliver!
I’m glad I was able to help you with your specific need
Man, that sweet hand plane at the end got me 😂😂. Nice little bench I’m sure it will serve you well
Thanks. People say hand planes are a lot of work to use but that one is so easy.
Awesome video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Yea it is for me awesome build brother. I built one and now want to make one out of oak wood. I was hesitating to stain oak but after seeing this it looks great and the color is nice
Thank you I’m glad you think so. We did a bunch of different color test samples before hand to find the one he liked most. Have fun!
So much waste
A lot of the wood didn’t work for this project, but I have held on to the offcuts and use them for smaller projects. Like one I just finished this week.
Sub great piece..... I was wondering what the diameter of the table was ?
Thank you. It was a 36” top
@@jrutstudio Thanks
Awesome Very informative video!! The pet bed came out excellent. We love you. We are so proud of what an fantastic job you are doing. I enjoy watching you in action.
Thank you very much! Love you too
Sloths would love this bed too 😊
Cannot confirm or deny this as I don’t know much about sloths preferred furniture choices
That’s amazing love u uncle Joey!❤️
Thank you. I love you too
First like! Biggest fan! Wow this guys is incredible! Wow wow wow wow wow.
😎
1/2 live 1/2 dead edge. Great looking table! What did you end up with as a final thickness?
Thank you! The table ended up right at 2” thick
Cam would be proud!
Thank you! I would hope so
Nice work.
Thank you
