There isn't nearly enough information here. It could have been that it was a fear building for a while. Could have been she thought she was pregnant and she doesn't want to risk that actually happening right now. He should actually just talk to her and tell her that he wants to understand where she's coming from. After that, he has to decide, does he live HER or does he just want sex? If you love her, than once you understand the issues, you can wait. If you want sex more, than she's better off without him as he goes off to try to find a new partner. I've gone years without sex.
