    This video does not say anything about what to do when having completed the art therapy course more than 2 years ago at a level lower than a Bachelors degree. I understand that having a Bachelor degree is the minimum requirement.

    A lovely student clare had just linked this video to our school group chat and I want to express how much relief and hope I have watching this video! I am currently a second year going into third next year and have had much anxieties and doubt about the degree itself, over the two years Ive heard different opinions about becoming an art therapist which resulted in staff(teachers) either being adamant about a master's degree with no other solution or to consider a different career path using the degree, which can be quite disheartening given how much time we have already invested into this degree. Many many thanks for creating this video and sharing with us Ikon students a solution and options for our pathway 🙏🥰

I don't understand why Ikon can't come out and explain this clearly to us bachelor students! There is so much uncertainty and anxiety among us students and Ikon has been nothing but dismissive about our concerns. Thank you for being a voice for us and I can't wait to be a part of PACFA upon graduation!

    This is wonderful news Carla! I'm keen to follow the establishment and guidelines of this new college, as in the past when I have enquired with PACFA, I have been advised that my post graduate qualifications, professional registration and experience in music therapy are not sufficient to meet their training standards. Hopefully as the establishment of the college progresses, these issues can be monitored and worked through. Thank you for your advocacy! Natalie :)

    Fantastic Pearl and Carla! I can so relate to your comments about teenagers in schools and them needing different forms of support in schools. The Art room is often a safe sanctuary for kids who do not fit in other places. Art teachers are feeling more pressure to be doing other things and cannot always be just hanging out in the art room at lunchtime. That's why art as therapy must be recognised and supported as a separate entity. thank you

    Maybe we need to interview clients who have experienced art therapy who are willing to disclose their experience. . The conversation has to shift to client choice and their understand of what works for their mental health.

    • @drcarlavanlaar
      @drcarlavanlaar 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      What we are showing is evidence that Arts Therapists already work as Mental Health Practitioners so the legislation needs to catch up with reality. I understand the importance of client voice however the ethics of asking clients to share stories is very tricky! If there are people who volunteer their stories this would be great and we will definitely include them, but don't want to coerce or pressure anyone :-)

    Dear friends, In this video I draw on a captivating range of credible source material including: -Wonderings from my daily walk. -Interviews with a panel of experts from the Australia Institute’s recent webinar “The role of the arts and artists”. -Findings from my doctoral research into sharing our stories through art. Utilising my finely tuned amateur production skills, (hahaha) I mash these golden spuds together and serve you up some hearty and compelling ideas. Join me in digesting some delicious food for thought: ways in which we can creatively co-author confident and convincing new cultural narratives through which we can understand and articulate how: The arts connect us even when we are distancing AND The arts help us to continue through times of challenging change.
