This story deserved to be told and it's good that now more gamers around the world will know. I started with the Super Charger, the carbon copy of Famicom. CloNES were synonymous of video games for many Brazilians, and we had no idea about the market reserve issue at the time. P.S.: I have this book too! 😊
@@adneybr the book is awesome, a must have. Funny thing is we both had the closest clones to the original hardware - I had the Bit System and you had the Super Charger.
Did you know NES clones were legally sold in Brazil, in respectable tax paying retailers? Have you ever played a Famiclone? Let us know in a comment!
Which games are you waiting for? Did you miss a game on this list? Let us know in a comment!
It's so cool 🎉
Great video, I recently acquired a philips 34pw9817 and my old gamecube and ps2 look and play amazing using component cables. Couldn't be happier with it, currently waiting for the flippy drive mod for the gamecube to arrive.
@@Mdg87 nice, this is a good set afaik. Do you have HDMI on it? If yes, try a modern console (PS5/4 or Switch), they look amazing and the ghost free picture beats LCD by far. Cheers!
I'm loving watch your videos in English, because I'm praticing my listening hability! Very good video PV!!!
@@erisonmargomante1668 glad you enjoy them! 🙂
I'm not exactly sure if I miss gaming on CRTs - I know, filters are not there yet, but they are dirty cheap: free :-) Another problem for me and my poor senior citizen vision is that most CRT TVs are small.
@@joseagripino8664 options are there, and for emulators, CRT shaders are good ones.
Yo diría que kkkkkkkk
Reading some about Tec Toy's history, I've always found it equal parts cute and sketchy how they re-branded the Master System and Mega Drive 1s as revisions. Totally threw off the naming scheme for the actually-remodeled machines. lmao
@@ZonicMirage to their credit, when Sega was readying the Saturn , Tectoy had an exclusive revision, the Megadrive III, to further save on costs. But yeah , the sketchy bits are hard to ignore.
@@neoretropixels I definitely applaud them for bringing a lot of Game Gear games to the SMS. That must have been really cool to see.
@ZonicMirage today it may seem trivial, but back then, wow, nobody was familiar with the process.
@@neoretropixels Yeah, truly impressive stuff. Tec Toy definitely knew what they were doing. Really wish the Master System had that much support in the US. I only knew about the NES when I was a kid. Because they had such a monopoly, the SMS had no chance. I picked one up a few years ago and was surprised at how good it is. Even bought one of those first-generation adapters that allows you to play the games on a Mega Drive.
@ZonicMirage yeah, in that sense Brazil is the answer to the "what if the NES and the Master System were released at the same time" question.
Cool!
I wish that Sony would make a hybrid console like the Nintendo Switch in the future. Especially with the Switch 2 coming out this year and with the rise of all the handheld gaming pcs (Steam Deck, Legion Go, ROG Ally, etc). But I think that they put themselves in a corner with only focusing on "AAA" games with amazing graphics and with them releasing the PS5 Pro.
@@GrimKaizer808 yeah, there's a chance they embrace the model, but they'd definitely need to do some sort of "PS5 Lite" approach and patch games to run on a less capable machine. Possible, yeah. Likely? Probably not.
Just because it was ahead of its time, doesn't mean people were ready for the tech. A lot of us knew it could be plugged into the TV but we didn't because the point was that it was portable. Most people had a PS2 at the time which had better graphics.
@@Madblaster6 indeed, many people complained back then that if they wanted a TV console, they'd get a PS2 instead. Having the connectivity to a TV as an option, not as the foundation, actually was a huge problem to the proposal.
I have more subscriptions than an actual TH-camr ahahahaha, keep it up and you should explode to ten of thousands of subs, at least. I added mine.
Lol, thanks much!

@@jakedasilva6847 I loved both of them, it's too bad Sony abandoned the Vita, it has a fantastic library.

@@ShaknunicPT-BR sure I'm Brazilian, I even mentioned that in the video, you know? Which also lends me more credibility for experiencing all that first hand. What's the problem with discussing Tectoy and their legacy?
Being a big Sega fan, I love seeing how much Brazil loved Sega and had kept it going for so long. Subbed
@@SegaCDUniverse there is still a lot of love for Sega over there. 🙂
Have you played on the PSP or the Vita? How did you enjoy these consoles? Were you familiar with their TV connectivity? Let us know in a comment!
Pee Vee, I had a PSP 1000 and I loved it to bits. I still have it, actually, but its battery died and tbh I haven't been very interested in playing with it lately. I was aware of some kind of TV connectivity but don't really remember when I came across that info, and I was under the impression my PSP 1000 wouldn't be able to use it anyway. 😅
@PabloVasquesBravoVillalba no, just the 2000, 3000 and the Go.
@PabloVasquesBravoVillalba BTW, there are replacement batteries at Ali Express, but their charge don't last as much as the original battery. Though you can still play with the charger on.
@@neoretropixels I'm just a bit relieved I wasn't missing much, after all 😅
Dude have some respect. As a Brazilian, this is a true offense. Tectoy is a company that we have to relive the nostalgia, its not an ¨obsession¨.
@@Guilherme36594 as a Brazilian I say that a company's perception is directly related to their good products and core values. Long gone is the Tectoy of the Master System, it's been almost 30 years they're not what people have nostalgia for anymore. So yes, obsession is the only word to describe what people feel for the Tectoy of today in Brazil.
@neoretropixels Só na tua opinião criatura, um BR falando mal dos brasileiros, fica ai no Canadá e nao volta nunca mais!!
Brazil even got a exclusive version of Street Fighter 2 for the Master System (made entirely by TecToy).

Great video! Bitlocker is a pain, thanks for sharing the trail and error experience that you went through.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! I'm still puzzled that Bazzite can't remove the partition by itself, but it was a fun process in the end and I hope the Bazzite devs get this right the next version!
@@neoretropixels Bazzite uses the installer that comes with Fedora (it's called Anaconda). I think it's the only installer that supports Fedora based atomic desktops at the moment. I've even seen the Bazzite maintainers complain about it even. Once Bazzite is installed though.... it's just great.
It's a real jungle hahaha I live in Brazil and it's not easy to live with a stupid market that consumes 10 to 1000 times the cost of physical or digital products. I would say that there is no freedom due to the high cost of everything. This is our main reason for backwardness. I believe that the market reserve since the 90s has been manipulated to have a fraction of freedom of consumption. I see technology as financial rape and decrepit and too stupid to realize that opening up technology factories or purchases to everyone within the country at the same cost as other nations, everyone in Brazil, including the salaries of even those who impede growth, would be 100 times more while incompetent and stupid governments are in control. We will have another 40 years of backwardness, just like in the 80s.
Got yourself a sub. I have always found the Sega Tec Toy empire in Brazil fascinating. Hi from near Chicago! 🖐️
@@RemoWilliams1227 glad to have you here, hope you enjoy future videos as well!
Wasn’t the Master System only super popular in Brazil and is still being produced there?
@@gchijioke12 yep, it was super popular. But it's not been in production for a few years now, despite an impressive run that had it being sold as long as in the 2010s.
It was more popular than the NES in the UK and many European countries
@alexojideagu indeed, the NES was later in the European market.
Weird ? Nothing wrong with loving Sega.
@@maforo85 loving Sega is fine, worshipping it is a bit on the extreme.
Do you still game on a portable PC with Windows 11? Or have you made the switch to Steam OS? Let us know in the comments!
This is interesting! So it s essentially like a steam deck now?
Yes, same menus and everything, it runs exactly the same easy as the deck, and much better than with Windows 11. Hope they get SteamOS officially out for other devices.
The laws in Brazil are made to enrich the top 1% at the detriment of the population... It is one of the most corrupted country in the world... This is exactly the same thing MAGA is trying to achieve... The USA destroyed Boeing, the most important and prestigious company in the world, why do they want manufacturing jobs back in their country? They can't! They are a services country that decided decades ago to have other countries do their products for cheap... You can change anything, nothing is set in stone, but you need to start by facing reality before changing anything... For now, the world is turning into giving more money to the top 1%. And we are so d***, we vote for those guys and praise them!
And religion is a poison that affects people even more when they are desesperate... There is so much to say about the level of corruption and perversity of religions in Brazil... And that's your explanation, once you believe that there is an old man in the sky is watching over you, why not believe Tec Toy is your friend? I am sorry, but it is that basic...
So you are saying that Socialism is bad... Thanks for clarifying it.
@@Haywood-Jablomie This is the post of a one neuron person. I said nothing about socialism, I specifically talked about corruption. No system, even the best in the world can resist human greed... You see it in the US too. The term "Left" is a boggeyman concept designed to put Americans to sleep.... There are barely a difference between Democrats and Republicans, they always do what is best for corporations. But a revolt is brewing in the US...
