Dishonored: Death of the Outsider Review
Looks better on ps5
Looks better on ps5
I really don’t get your complaints with this game. It has some of the tightest and best feeling platforming of any game I’ve played in a long time. The fact that there’s only a few levels and moves doesn’t mean anything when all of it is consistently great. The game takes the small amount of moves and pushes them to their limits in the two tower levels. Quality over quantity is essential in a 3D platformer. Especially when the game is so cheap. It’s not a game that relies on the gimmick of feeling like an N64 title, it’s a seriously well thought out platformer that honestly rivals some of the greats in terms of its platforming dexterity. And the suggestion to use AI voices for characters makes zero sense. There’s no need for voice acting in a game like this. On top of that, complaining that the story isn’t engaging also doesn’t make much sense to me. What 3D platformers DO have engaging stories? This game, like the platformers of the N64, puts gameplay above everything else, and it is all the better for it.
well, out of all the games Hyperstrange has released, this is the only one that got extra content after the initial game release, so hopefully that means this will be a series, and not just a 1 off game like other games I really like from them (Postan Brain Damaged, Elderborn)
I really do hope they make it a series, it's simple and it's fun.
Really good review. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
If people don't know anything about stealth games they should watch ur reviews ❤
Thank you!
Thank you for the review. I heard about the base game because of your first video. (Also Filcher, which I really loved) The game has a unique style with satisfying gunplay and an interesting world. As you said, the DLC sounds like more of the same, so I think I will enjoy it. For game recommendations; There are games which are among my favorites, like Sekiro, Read Dead Redemption 2, Baldurs Gate 3, Disco Elysium or Return of the Obra Dinn. But these are games which are quite different to your games you played. Your channel has more the vibe of immersive sims/stealth games to it. But you still covered with Anothers Crabs Treasure a actionsoulslike and with Hardspace: Shipbreaker a simulation game. So maybe from time to time you also tackle different genres. But to stick more the immersive sims/stealth side, here are game recommendations for you in that vein: Mark Of the Ninja (I played it, loved it) Aragami series (played them, enjoyed it) Ereban (didn't play) Republique (didn't play) Volume (didn't play) Counter Spy (didn't play) Invisible Inc (played it,enjoyed it) Sir, you are being hunted (didn't play) Evotiction (didn't play) CTRl Alt Ego (played it, loved it) Cruelty Squad (played it, loved it) Weird West (played it, enjoyed it) Eldrich (didn't play) Selaco (didn't play) Witchfire (didn't play) Hunt Showdown (played it, loved it) The games from Mimimi who created the stealth/tactics genre (played all of them, they are pretty much a masterclass in stealth game design- Sumerian Six this year was also a great spiritual successor) And of course, there are still the legacy series like Dishonored. Splinter Cell series Thief series Hitman series Metal Gear (Metal Gear Solid 5 specifically) Deus Ex series System Shock series Of course 2017s Prey (Maybe Bioshock, there arent really that immersive sims like though) But you said you want to focus more on the indie and AA sectors. Still if there is a time where there isn't much to play you still have plenty to talk about. So yeah, really excited about your coming videos. You are probably in my top 5 video game critics out there. Really appreciate your work and style. I personally also would agree that on average, the triple A games have declined. But I cant resonate with people who say "gaming is dying". Thanks to Indie and double A there are so many creative and nowadays also more and more polished games out there, so for me I have still around 5,6,7 games each year which Im really enthuse about it. The difference is, most of them arent triple A games. There are still triple A games each years which I loved. For example this years Metaphor Refantazio or last years Baldurs Gate 3 and Tears of the Kigdom. And Baldurs Gate 3 is one of my favorite games now. Great Triple A games still come out, its just rarer. However great Indie games are much more common. So its not the worst time to be a videogame enjoyer. In conclusion Im eager to see, which indie and double A games will surprise us this year and also Im excited for the few Triple A games in the future. (I have a skeptical and exciting anticipation for the Blade game from Arcane, Judas from Ghost Story Games the James Bond game from IO Interactive , Perfect Dark reboot from crystal dynamics the more double A looking Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream and Thick As Thieves and hopefully the 1,0 release from the indie game Gloomwood, the first impressions are strong, so It won’t turn out like shadows of doubt) Beside from videogames, "Cheers to 2025"!
Wow, thank you for all of those recommendations. I added quite a few of those to the list and will hopefully get to a few of them this year! I plan on doing some of the "legacy series" eventually because they're all staples in the gaming community to this day and will remain to be for years to come. It means a lot to me being one your top 5 video game critics, Truly. I hope I continue to entertain and lead not only you, but many others to titles that they haven't heard of.
Shadowman!
It's added!
@CarmelOP-official lol i was just callin out my boy redd pepper. But i love this outcome too!
it seems like list got blocked, but stoneshard just got update
I’ll add it when I get to my computer. As for the list itself it should be viewable to everyone, but only I can edit it.
@@CarmelOP-official "Warning: This URL has been blocked by Bitly's systems as potentially harmful. We recommend you close your browser window and notify the person who sent you the link." thats what it says after opening the link
Well that’s on the to-do list for tomorrow.
Since you already covered Dishonored and Deathloop, you should cover Prey 2017. Its one of my favourite games of all times, you probable already played it, if you didnt you should give it a try.
I fully intend on it since it's one of my personal favorites, when I feel like I can do it justice I'll make it a review.
Prey is greate 👍🏻
I almost vomited when you suggested using AI voices. That is genuinly scummy and super terrible to say. And then you go and make fun of people who have actual morality.
I like how you ignore the rest of the context around my entire thought process.
Happy holidays homie, i ended up finding your channel out of the blue when looking up reviews for Hardspace Shipbreaker and i liked the format and the way you did your analisys, followed the channel ever since. Only thing i can tell you is do your own thing and what you feel is right. Keep up the good work
Thanks man!
I love when i believe i have decompressed everything and i cut something and then it turns into how many tethers i can place in the amount of time it takes before it gets to far
Thanks for your review. I was going to buy it but after watching your review I'll hold on Happy new year!
I'm glad I saved you some money! Happy New Year!
What was the other game with the music?
Halo 3: ODST
I really love this game, i got it from PS Plus for free a while back, got every achievement except for beating it on the ahrdest diffuculty. Would definitely recommend (and they added free DLC TWICE!)
Not even done watching this video and probably going to buy this game. Happens to be on sale for a steal on steam atm for anyone seeing this. Great review btw.
Yeah man, it's $2.50 right now and that's an absolute steal!
great video as always
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for the suggestion brother, never heard of this but looks cool and its 2.49€ on steam
It's an absolute steal at that price.
@@CarmelOP-official 100% a steal, just finished the game and its amazing, one of the best indie games ive played this year alogside Dredge. Cant reinforce you recommendation enough!
No mention of the wrestling puns with the moles. I can't be the only one who thought it was funny
It is funny, but I felt like I shouldn’t spoil it for people who may play it after watching this review.
@@CarmelOP-official fair enough
Just the music alone makes me want to play this ❤
The music is definitely one of its high points.
I kept replying the Bard's cript music and it helped me win every fight lol
Playing with my year end PS Extra subscription. So glad i tried it. Absolutele joy for my brain to lick these ships apart.
Shipbreaker is one of the better games of recent years. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The only thing I didn't really like about it was the game was the need for a higher end system for the game graphics to operate well. Even so, I had a blast playing. One of the most surprising features of the game is the music. I have now discovered a whole new genre of music to enjoy. This is game I would recommend this game for anyone who is looking for a change of pace.
The music was a pure treat, it's the only game OST I listed to regularly.
The comparisons to Firefly are pure joy. Loving this title.
I played several different games that just don't have enough content to them to be video worthy, It happens. But I think it seems like you succinctly reviewed this game well.
Thank you, and I'm glad I'm not the only one. These types of games are a blessing and a curse since yeah there's not much for me to talk about, but I can inform people as to whether or not they should play them.
It was still a fun game back then,it really ran well on old hardware as well. There's a reason why it has 4.5 stars on steam. A flawed but fun game.
Dayum bro u deserve more views fr
Thanks! I’m sure people will find me eventually!
38:18 I'm gonna to just say, I think there's still life in this team and their series. I believe they have the capability to improve and grow their skills, that much was shown with the jump in quality from Ink Machine to Dark Revival. It's because of that, I believe they are set to continue growing. Bendy is a respected and liked series by many, and the devs plan on taking it to new heights and it's bound to reach those. There's a reason they announced a movie and like 4 new games, because they saw some demand for it, because people saw in them their new found potential with DR.
They have to REALLY step up their game. If they continue to use a combat system and crafting, both of those need to be expanded upon because as they stand, they just exist without any depth, or really need to justify their existence. If they wanted, they could do a defenseless survival horror, but I think they’re too fixated on the plot point of the main character “saving the day”. The set piece (Bendy) was mishandled in DR and honestly felt better in IM since he stalked the halls and just wasn’t a screen filter telling you to hide. They’ll have to reimagine how they want him to be a threat because as his design stands in DR, it’s laughable at best. The studio is riding a fine line when it comes to their games. Sure the brand is probably doing fine toy sales wise with a movie on the way, but these games are so boring. I never want to see a studio go under, especially an indie or AA, but there are too many games out there that serve as examples on how to do certain mechanics and gameplay loops for them not to use in their games.
"Country music doesn't belong in sci fi" - tell firefly fanatics that
Well, typically it doesn’t. I haven’t seen Firefly so I can’t comment on that.
You know what else is massive?
This is on sale for 12 bucks right now. Might pick it up! thank s for the vid!
Thank you for watching!
arkane made my favorite game of all time still tbh which is prey 2017 and I put all the dishonored games high up there on some of my favorite games too….That being said they extremely fell off with this game and the next one Redfall when they took the ability to observe the environments and Manually save away and on top of that made you feel rushy rush through it made it truly unenjoyable in a large way. They completely ignored the term “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it”. And that’s why these games will never be looked back as foundly as the other aforementioned infact they are mainly online especially Redfall and if the servers go down which they could like with Ubisoft’s the crew no more game period.
Heya, the Undead (and other chars) here! Fantastic video, don't know how it eluded me for this long! There's a DLC on the way right now, along a myriad of other changes. Hope you'll give that one a go, too! Personally (and this isn't inside knowledge I got from the devs or something like that), I think this game will kick up at least a trilogy, if not a mini-franchise. It was met with pretty good sales numbers and is now even co-published by New Blood, so I'm sure there is more planned. Plus, there is just so much more you can do with the story and setting in this world, it would be a shame not to try and get more stuff fleshed out in there!
I'm glad you enjoyed my (amateur level) video review! I've been following Blood West Closely ever since I finished it and was stoked when I found out a DLC was being made and that they had a monster design contest. I'm hoping we see more from the franchise in the future because it has a lot of potential.
@@CarmelOP-official Oh yeah, I forgot about the contest! I'm sure there's more where that came from. :)
yes... I felt the same thing, the story really isn't that good..., but the rest is incredible
Agreed.
I like styx because finding a true stealth game is really hard but styx does it just how I like. Also the levels are massive so I can play the levels many times even after I beat the game without getting bored
I think that Styx is a great series because it offers a different stealth experience. Where combat really can result in a game over and the uniqueness of its fantasy setting. The size of the levels have always been its strong suit and I truly hope we get another installment.
Addlast that game is way better than those WOKE DEI games on 2024 year. That's for sure. 8/10
What do you mean? We all know Styx is a black trans man 🤣🤣 I personally did like this game as well, but mostly for the writing I thought the story was really cool
How buggy Normal? Okay? Bad? Horrible? Or... Bethesda...?
I made a full length review of it, take a look at it and skip to the “polish” section if you want.
"Buggy mess" sure love how people will play a game thats still being worked on then complain about bugs
The dev released it into 1.0 and is selling it for 25 USD. It's fair game.
@@CarmelOP-officialtoché
It's unplayable on console, yet you can't get refund or anything. And the game doesn't tell you that, so I was almost about to buy it and i thought to look up first about the ps5 version, good thing i did
What universe is Styx in? Hobbit? I’m curious because there’s dwarves, elves, and such. Also a reference to Gollum but there’s also a reference to Kratos so 🤷🏾♂️
It takes place in the “Of Orcs and Men” universe.
such a shame
Yeah, it is.
Amazing video my friend! I wish you the best in all your future projects!
I’m glad you enjoyed it and thank you!
Very good and honest review. I feel the same about this game. The biggest issue with this title, is that it got such high praise during Early Access, but I feel if people reviewed the game based on it's current state and not it's "potential" it wouldn't have left early access so soon. It's glowing reviews told the dev the game is "good enough" and so he released it as is.
That’s a good observation. I’m still curious how the dev can justify the price tag, because it’s laughable.
What i like about styx is its a true stealth game. Not like assassins creed where uou always have the option of beating the shit out of your enemies, no in styx you are usless at hand to hand so you actually have to think strategically instead of just mindlessly whacking people
Well organized review that broke down what you liked and disliked about the game. I subscribed and look forward to more :)
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
What the hell, it's an incredible game.
Underrated game
I hope they release another Styx game. They weren’t the best but they were fun.
Underrated game
It’s one of my favorites.
I bought this game cause it seemed pretty cool, and it was fun for a little bit. But after a few ships, and the time limit, just lost interest. Just felt rushed for no reason with the time limit, and having to float back to starion to buy oxygen a few times a day is annoying. I want to like it, and tried to boot it back up a few times to finish the story, but im bored after one shift and close the game.
Yeah the rushed feeling doesn’t go away during the campaign, even though the timer is inconsequential. Floating back and forth to refill on supplies and oxygen is tedious in the early game, but the upgrades can make it to where you can just fill up right when you hit the yard and not have to worry about it the rest of the shift. It can be a hard game to just sit down and play because at its core, it’s a job simulator.
@CarmelOP-official the job simulator part isn't the issue. Obviously, anyone buying this game already likes job simulator type games, or at least is interested in thst aspect. It's just...boring, don't think they put enough thought in the systems
