I've only played a few matches, but I've enjoyed it more than BFV so far. I wish more people would play Team Deathmatch though. I got into a couple of matches by chance last weekend, but have not been able to find anyone playing that since. Being a former BF1943 player, I have a soft spot for smaller maps and smaller teams.

At least from these matches, I had a better time than in BFV. The last matches I played in BFV usually consisted of me having to spend a lot of time running from A to B, only to get shot without having any idea where the enemy was.

@@LeotseilGaming I spent a lot time on both. I like the weapons better on 1. It just feels like a better play to me.

@@00zero11b Yeah, the gunplay definitely felt better. BFV seems to have a lot of focus on recoil control. I could almost never hit anything with a machine gun in BFV because I'm so bad at controlling the recoil. Although not absent, I felt that BF1 had less focus on controlling extreme recoil. I could actually hit something with the machine guns, and the semi automatic rifle you get as a medic was also fun to use. I was mainly a BF1943 player until EA shut down the servers, and the medic rifle felt more like how the M1 Garand felt in BF1943 than the actual M1 Garand in BFV, heh.

@@LeotseilGaming I love using the mortars and artillery in BF1 which they didn't include in BF5 for some reason.

This was played on Xbox Series X, but sadly the servers are down for Xbox as well. I recorded a huge backlog of episodes before the shutdown to be able to continue to post episodes for some years after the shutdown. Edit: The Xbox servers also shut down in 2023 at the same time as PS3.

It was such a good game.

There was a plane starting to shoot at the jeep, so I thought it might not be the best idea to hang around it, hehe. If only I had run straight for the tank, I might have been able to get it (preferably without blowing myself up, heh) before the match ended. Since the end music started right before I got the tank, the kill didn't count.

@@LeotseilGaming I guess so, fiddling about with your settings is the main bit really, and getting a feel for the weapons. The MP18 trench you were using for example, it’s my most used weapon, it’s good when ADS, but way better at hip firing. Tbh mate, those being your first games, you were actually pretty decent.

@@aka_howdy I'm actually looking at videos discussing setting the settings right in BF1 right now, hehe. The thing is, last year I played nothing but BF1943 until they closed the servers in early December (I made a huge backlog before the servers shut down so most videos on my channel for the next years will still be from BF1943), and I'm so used to how the sensitivity worked in that game. But I think they must have changed how the stick sensitivity work in later games, because I have not been able to replicate how aiming felt in BF1943. I think I have to experiment more to see if I can get it to feel more like I'm used to from BF1943. Thanks for the compliment and tip about hip firing.

I can see why. Although I've only played a few matches, it seems like a great game. I've seen others also mentioning Operations, so I'll have to check that out. Yesterday I got into some matches of Team Deathmatch by chance, and I also enjoyed that. I was a BF1943 player until they shut down the servers, so the smaller maps and 12 v 12 was right up my alley. Thanks for the tip about the flares, as well as the guide to the classes! Appreciate it.

Yeah, it was the perfect amount of zoom for the size of the maps. Another thing they got just right was the stick sensitivity, both when moving and when aiming down sight. This is a game where I never felt the need to do any adjustments to the sensitivity, but in other games I always have to fiddle around with various setting (never to get it to feel as good as in BF1943).

That is always a good sign about the quality of a game.

Nice! I actually have BF1 in my Steam library, but I have never tried it on PC as I don't have a PC (Mac user). I have been thinking if I should get a small gaming PC, though, so I could try out some PC games for the channel. But the skills of PC FPS players terrify me, haha.

Have you given the server browser a try? You might have to use the filter option that is on the top right in the server browser. Then go down to the slots option and press none and the 1 - 5 thingy. And it should sort you through all the empty servers and only give you active ones! Hope it helps!

Thanks, appreciate the comment, although I wouldn't say that I was quite "quite good", hehe. At least I felt I did better than I did in my first matches of Battlefield V. Good to know my English is not all that terrible. In fact, one of my initial reasons for making this channels was actually to practice speaking English.

I did have some problems getting into a match at first, as I hinted to in the video, but after a while I got into a match.

@@LeotseilGaming Why do you like it better than V? I'm finally learning the BFV maps, so I'm liking it a little more. One thing I don't like about any of the other BF games is that I feel like I don't have nearly as much influence on the outcome of a game as I did with 43.

@@sappyjohnson One part was definitely the gunplay. I felt the weapons were easier to handle compared to BFV. Less emphasis on recoil control, which is something I absolutely suck at. I still struggled a bit with aiming sensitivity, though, as it seems I do with most modern shooters. That is something they just nailed in BF1943. That is one game where I never felt the need to adjust the sensitivity. They got it just right. But aside from how the guns felt to use, I felt I had less situations where I had no idea where I got shot from, something that happens all the time in BFV. It was also a bit easier to spot the enemies (actually identifying them as enemies, on the other hand, heh), something I also struggle with in BFV. I would take my experiences with a grain of salt, though, as I have only played three matches. Yeah, I know what you feel about not being able to influence the outcome. I think that is just due to the smaller maps with 12v12 in BF1943 vs larger maps with 64v64 on both BF1 and BFV. In a 12v12 match, a single player will be more significant compared to a single player in 64v64. The smaller maps also means you can get things done more easily, since you don't spend a lot of time going from one flag to the next.

You need to go onto the server browser to find active servers, the quick match can sometimes drop you into a new server with like 4 players, In the browser you can see community ran servers that are moderated and ban hackers.

Well, we all know that the pinnacle of gaming graphics were the PS3/360 era, so it's no wonder the graphics get better as I go further and further back to older and older games, hehe. But seriously, to me the PS3/360 era of graphics had the perfect balance of fidelity and clarity. I always thought I wanted the highest fidelity possible, but after playing BFV, I realized I don't necessarily want the highest fidelity, but rather graphics where the fidelity is high enough for the game to feel immersive, but at the same time being "clean" and not cluttered. To me, the graphics of BF1943 where perfect with regard to this balance, although it would have been fun to see how the cancelled PC version would have looked. Imagine the BF1943 models and textures, but rendered out in 4K.

@@LeotseilGaming oh, I agree I can only imagine how great the graphics would be for bf43 on pc. And also the modding community making things even more fun and possibly adding more maps.

Oh, I never thought about the modding possibilities that we would have had with the PC version! I've been discussing the cancelled PC version in other comments, but I always focused on that it would have been easier to get community servers up and running. But being more easily able to mod the game could have opened to many possibilities. Just imagine modding developers adding BF1943 versions of other classic BF1942 maps. I've sometimes wondered how a BF1943 version of maps from the European or eastern front would have looked like. One could also have experimented with asymmetric maps, i.e. such as the original Wake Island map where the Americans start holding the island with the Japanese attacking. I'm not sure if it would have worked in BF1943, but it would have been fun to see modding developers experiment with it.

I've not played much after BF1943. Most games I've tried out, you can actually see videos of on the channel. I also have a new one coming out soon. Unfortunately, I've not been able to find a good replacement for BF1943 yet.

But one thing that I have learned after BF1943 shut down, is that the BF1943 player base enjoyed BF1943 for a variety of reasons. I have seen people find replacement games that I could not play for more than a few minutes myself. So if I find a game that gives me what I'm looking for in a replacement, it might not necessarily be what you are looking for in a replacement. In any case, I will most likely make videos from it so that you can check it out yourself.

One risk with such a system is that I think it could easily be exploited. For instance, if you have a plane on your tail, you could just head towards your carrier and the enemies would not be able to get you. Maybe it could work in such a way that it only restricted going near enemy bases at the start of the match and when the enemy team hold all the flags? Another possible solution could have been to not allow the planes to spawn at the start of the match. That is, that the planes only spawned in after a few minutes so that both teams have time to take boats to the island. Both of these solutions have one problem, though, and that is that they take away a really intense and fun moment in a match; that first few minutes where you get into a plane and rush towards the enemy carrier to try to get the boats before they could get ashore, having to quickly decide if you should focus on incoming enemy planes or take your chances on taking out a few boats. On matches with balanced teams, that was so much fun. I've actually often been thinking about this, trying to figure out what a possible solution would have looked like to avoid home base trapping. But every time I think I have a solution, I realize that it would risk messing with the fun factor of the game. Earlier I was pondering a solution where the enemy is given a random flag or two automatically if the game detects that the enemy team is being base spawn trapped, so that they would have a flag to spawn on, but I don't know. There are probably pitfalls to that solution as well. Another possible solution could have been to make anti-air weapons (AA-guns and mounted machine guns) really strong towards planes if one team holds all the flags (but that it only applied towards the team holding all the flags). Then it would be harder to use planes to spawn trap an enemy team. It does not fix the problem of players camping at the shore in tanks taking out boats as they approach land, though. Another possible solution could be to have your solution of restricting movement towards the enemy home base (similar to how it functions when you go outside the borders of the map, i.e. a countdown where you die if you don't turn around), but have the radius of the restricted area depend on the balance of the teams, if one team holds all the flags and perhaps also the ticket ratio (i.e. that if a team is losing badly, they get a bigger restrict radius around their home base to make sure they don't get home base trapped). It still doesn't fix the problem of players camping with tanks, but you could make it so that the bullets don't go far in the restricted zone to take care of that. With this solution we could still have the fun and intense moments of rushing towards the enemy carriers at the start of a match. If the teams are balanced, the restrict radius would be small (or not be there at all) so that we still get those fun moments. But if the teams are not balanced, or if the enemy team holds a lot of the flags or are leading significantly in tickets, then the restrict radius would grow to give the other team a fighting chance. If a match was unbalanced, but then turned around becoming more balanced, the restrict radius would shrink again. What do you think?

Yeah, DICE has always been good with sound. But I actually prefer the sound of the M1 Garand in BF1943 compared to BFV. It just sounds so powerful in BF1943!

@@thecoolninjakid75 I have BF1942 with the two expansions as well as BF2 from "back in the day". Never played them online though, only against bots. I also recently bought a used copy of Bad Company 2 for PC just in case I get back into PC gaming (been a Mac user for the last years). It would have been interesting to try out the community server project for Bad Company 2 (Project Rome). I also have Bad Company 1 and 2 on console (and BF1943 of course). In addition I bought Battlefield 1 on sale a while back, but I haven't got around to try it out.

Haha! I love that the player base was small enough that one would play against the same players so often that one would start to really know their playstyle and small quirks after a while.

A 4K60 remaster would have been sweet, but I would personally not want any changes to the graphics besides just rendering out the current models and textures in 4k60. One of my main complaints of BFV, for instance, is that the visuals, while pretty to look at, are so lush and detailed that I really struggle to see enemy players a lot of the time. For me, the visuals in BF1943 struck the perfect balance of fidelity and clarity. The fidelity was high enough for the game to feel immersive, but at the same time I could always see what was going on. I wasn't even bothered by the 30fps, but it would be very interesting to see the current models and textures rendered out in 4K60. I'm not so sure about the 64 v 64, though. Since the maps were designed for 12 v 12, I think 64 v 64 would feel very crowded. I could see going as high as 15 v 15 working without problems, but I think larger maps would be necessary for 64 v 64 to work. However, personally I would not want bigger maps as I feel the smaller maps lent itself very well to the simple pick-up-and-play gameplay of BF1943.

"- and then you're dead"... followed by blaming Dice, hehe. One of my biggest complaints of the gunplay was the inconsistency of the time allowed to fire the rifle grenade after switching. Some times you could fire immediately after switching while other times you had to wait for the switch animation to finish (even if the rifle grenade was loaded and ready). I could never find a reliable way of getting the quick-fire after switching. I died so many times because of not being able to fire right away after switching to the rifle grenade.

I'm actually considering buying a small gaming PC just to play some of the older shooters. I do actually have a copy of BF2 sitting on my shelf, but I never tried it online. Back in the day I just played offline against bots. If I get around to buying a gaming PC, I would probably go for another game first, though, as I have been wanting to try out the community driven servers of Bad Company 2, as that is a game I also played back in the day. When I played BF1943 on PS3 back in the day, I would alternate between playing BF1943 and Bad Company 2. While I preferred BF1943, I remember Bad Company 2 was also a ton of fun.
