The Morning After an ENGINE SWAP! | Final Formula St George Races of 2023
After blowing a head gasket on the hot engine, the mighty SV650 lives again following a long night swapping the engines and coming into this morning without turning the bike on.
Luckily everything worked pretty well, and we were able to take a race win, the Formula St George State title and most impressively the Club Championship. Definitely a feel good story for us, from down and out, to winning the first race of the day.

WINNING THE PHILLIP ISLAND 2 HOUR!! | St George Endurance Racing Series

The first time back doing endurance racing at Phillip Island for a long time and somehow we ended up winning the thing! 2 hours of racing my SV650s up against a Moto3, Kramers, plenty of R3s, Ninja 400s, KTM 390s and a sneaky Aprilia RS makes for a great time. As with all endurance racing there were plenty of twists and turns that kept things very interesting and kept us guessing who would come...

it feels like the others have 125cc while you run the 500cc
Do you have a slipper clutch or do you slip it yourself?
I have the yoyodyne rr model in this bike. It's very good, though I do often still find myself adding slip/extra blip sometimes.
Do you have a slipper clutch or are you slipping it yourself?
I have a slipper clutch, but I also slip it myself
Aren't there diameter restrictors in the airbox to throttle body rubbers, I'm sure std uk bikes are making much more power than in your dyno test? than in
Yessir! In the Aussie Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme (LAMS) model, there are a number of restrictions in place to keep it under around the 42-45hp mark, namely reduced bore to make it under the 660cc of the LAMS rules. Yes, it would be waaay better if Australia took up a system similar to the UK A2 system where it's all in the ECU, rather than loads of different mechanical changes.
Great video, I have 2021 XSR 700 UK model and have the snorkel with the tube going right down into the air Filter. I bought a complete spare airbox to cut the offending tube into the air Filter off flush with the airbox lid, but from what you are saying from your tests, I would do better to take the spare lid and open the inlet aperture out to just smaller than the opening in the standard air filter to get a healthy dollop of extra power in the middle of the reve range. I have already fitted a Leo Vince exhaust system so imagine a flashed ECU to suit exhaust and intake mods would benefit any possible lean condition
Yessir! Opening up the oem lid will net you better results. More flow is much better! With a full system and opened up airbox, tuning is definitely required!
Let us know your results when you do! Remember to test with the standard lid/snorkel and then your modified one, to see the gains & differences.
I am going to get the ECU remapped with an off the shelf "air filter and exhaust system" flash from Wiz Performance in Leeds UK. I will then remove the snorkel and open out and chamfer the airbox lid and may then go to a local dyno purely to make sure the AFR is in the safe zone. I never got base readings before I fitted the exhaust system, I m not bothered by the the power figures..... its really nice now, but would be rude not to take advantage of some free airflow. Really enjoyed your video, stealing others dyno experience is a cheap way to gain power. Thanks for your responses and encouragement. I bet the UK spec XSR700/MT07 air filter to throttle body runners would be usefull in your neck of the woods?
code brown
You are very correct hahaha
Thanks for posting this video! I actually just found Evill_Eds post separately today while looking into doing the R7 slipper clutch on my MT07. I bought it used a month and a half ago. The warranty just expired when I bought and I can't get the extended. This is my first bike and I've only put on 150km (busy life) but the clutch has already developed the dreaded 2023-2024 problems with stuck plates from lack of proper oil soaking by Yamaha. It first had difficulty shifting into 3rd, and then 2nd and 3rd more recently, and now finally it is rolling forward in 1st even with clutch fully pulled in. So it rolls forward at stops like an automatic car in D. I adjusted the clutch lever and cable in every possible way but it still happens. I've concluded I must change the clutch which sucks for such a recently bought bike just out of warranty. But I'll make it up upgrade with the R7 slipper clutch which is fun. I'll be following this video every step of the way!
Or you could pull out the fuse but u get light for that
Haha, that also works! But this means no concern about warning lights when racing
Hey man would you recommend riding with the dna filter in without getting a dyno tune ? Obviously I will but was just curious if you can run it without any damage to engine
If you are only removing the snorkel and changing the filter, it will be pretty fine. If you change the lid out as well, with an exhaust, then you will start needing to map it.
@@BB22Racing yeah sweet was just checking otherwise I was gonna chuck it now but I’ll wait until I book dyno a week before I throw the dna filter and lid
@@BB22Racing at the moment derestricted plate, r6 throttle tube, sc projects cr-t exhaust on it you recommend doing anything else for good power before dyno?
What a great track, where is this?
It's Sydney Motorsports Park! Previously known as Eastern Creek Raceway, when Grand Prix raced there. It's a great track.
Clutch hub nut is 70ft-lbs & the three springs are 90in-lbs
ok where is all these pats try adding them for people to see than
The throttle plates can be found on ebay, or from a Yamaha dealer, where you can also get the 'HO' intake runners. The aftermarket parts are fairly easily available, so best to google and see if your local stores may stock them 😊
Stock the throttle travel is way too much ..
The LAMS model stock throttle is short because it is restricted. Putting the standard 'HO' (689cc) model throttle plate can open up a bunch more performance over the LAMS. That said, if you want a quicker action throttle, the R6 tube mod is a small improvement, but best improvements will come from a proper quick action throttle, like the Rev3 we run on the SVs.
@@BB22Racing I looked for one from Motion Pro a couple of years ago and seems they were mostly for dirt bikes.
So can I just run the dna stage 2 cap and my stock filter?
Yes, this will work, but again as shown from the dyno results, there will not be a huge top end power increase, but you should feel a bit more in the middle of the rev range, which is where most of us ride on the road.
you also have habe a duel snokle in the front f the air box should change them over to, the throttle don't fully throttle ether so need to sand a little down to boost the extra power
Yes, the intake runners from the airbox to the throttle bodies have restrictors on the LAMS model bikes, that can be chopped out and smoothed back to essentially mimic the 'HO' runners.
Did the rear shock raise the rear end at all mate ?
The Öhlins is 1.5mm longer than the oem at 311.5mm compared to 310mm, so it will have added a smidge of static ride height. The shock is none length adjustable. The bigger difference that can be felt came from the stiffer spring and valving, so it sits taller even with the correct sag set.
Pod filters 🤙
Pod filters, with the correct runner lengths and velocity stacks! Just putting plain pop filters straight onto the throttle bodies ain't the best!
Hello sir. I have a gixxer k8. I jave shifting controll shifter. Can i tuni it from woolich or i need to buy something else? Thank you sir
Sorry friend, I'm uncertain on this one!
It looks like there are two types or rear suspension and two types of forks that online sells for the R7. Any reason you chose what you did specifically?
At the time we were ordering, we were looking at the track focused suspension, and these ohlins options were the only ones readily available at the time
I think this would also fit on the Tracer 700? As its the same CP2 engine right
It aught to yes! However, check the forum links and see if they fit!
I spoke to a local shop about flashing my R7 and he said the exact same thing about the after-market stage 2 filter. nothing really to gain by it except that it is easier to clean out and reuse vs stock filter being more tedious to clean. thanks for the confirmation and work you put into testing out the difference between the two.
Thanks for the feedback!
i have moded my snorkal bna have it going into the air filter i have mine about two inches out with a trumpit on, i have been resurching on line and found a air box engineer who trained with race cars all his life. he has a xsr700 and dna filter but did not buy the dna top as he says the sound waves dont work as good as a trumpet funnel.. he whent into great detail about it. i made my own before seeing his post. i am going on the dino next week . we will see if he is right or not. i am not botherd about hp i want more torque up to about 8000 rpms as i have a T7.
Sounds like a great idea to play around with, let me know how it goes! I'm interested to see the comparisons between the stock, DNA and trumpet lid.
Dove compro emulatore per il mio citycom300i abs
The ABS delete part number is on the GYTR parts list!
took me legit 1 min to know where you were hahaha hell yeh
Shhhh 😉
I removed just the snorkel and it seems to make a difference from 4 k rpm up, also seemed to rev "free'r" over 8 k rpm. No other mods currently on 2022 60th Anniversary Edition in USA.
Same bike , same mod. Not tried it out yet.
Great video
Would you be adding ram air to build would interesting see on r7 make it proper super twin
Some of the Twins Cup teams have developed a ram air system for their R7s, however with the engine/tank/intake set-up on the R7, it's a difficult (but not impossible) feat.
Love the commentary! also like the chapters for the different races. But man im hungry for some trackside tinkering and general antics :]
Heck yeah! Thanks for the feedback!!
Does any of this cause a lean condition? I have a dna filter w dna lid and have been told i need to adjust afr cuz ittll lean out
It will provide more air to the engine, but you're not talking about silly amounts that will cause catastrophic changes to your air/fuel mixture.
@@BB22Racing also forgot to mention full Yoshi exhaust. As well as the filter and stage 2 lid. I had bought it like that but am thinking about putting the stock one back on cuz it seems the guy who had it before didn't rly know what he was doing and j slapping stuff on there.
I got a question though, with these woolich tools, if your bike already has a standard quick shifter/auto blipper, would I still need it? Is it an upgrade from the standard ones that come on the bike?
The woolich kit offers more adjustability over the OEM.
Ok thanks for the clarification, so you get one button that does it all with just different procedures in order to activate it aka launch control/warm up/pitt limiter
I have a 23 mt09 sp that’s about to go get the woolich ecu and just wanted to see if the tool kit would be worth the extra $850
So the pit limiter is a button. Warm up is only on ride by wire bikes. Launch control is activated by being in fist and keeping the clutch in for a set amount of time. But I don't know if they even do race tools for a MT09SP
yeah you're right they haven't released the race tool kit for the 21-23 versions just yet, thanks for clarifying though, it was nice to get some insight on this @@BB22Racing
Where do you get that emulator?
It's a GYTR part no.
Does the HO have a less restricted snorkel than the LAMS model?
No, the HO and LAMS model snorkels are the same part number.
do you need to get dyno tune after doing the air filter, exhaust and throttle plate?
It is certainly best to, yes!
Will it cause any damage to the engine if I only derestrict the throttle plate but keep everything stock without a flash or tune on my r7? Cheers
If you're just swapping to the different throttle plate, it won't damage your engine. However, the 'gain' made by this won't be all that much without remapping the ecu to fuel at those throttle percentages
Sound track is gold
Subscribed for the R7 restrictor plate stuff, and T5 inside pass.
Thanks mate! I'll get back into the R7 stuff soon!
So instead of buying a new lid for that larger opening, what if I just use a dremel and make a larger opening on my OEM lid? Thoughts if this will work?
Yes, you should be able to get more air into the airbox, just be careful not to go bigger than the air filter opening. There are some shops that do that as a part of their 'de-restricting'.
this is a good video mate! you need more subscribers.
Cheers mate, hopefully I can get some more R7 stuff going soon and we'll see what happens!
Funny to see people on 100hp+ just able to get away on straight lines! lol
What year is your SV? I did my first track day last season, and am plotting out what I need to turn my '14 SFV650 Gladius into a trackbike.
My Supertwin SV is a 2017 SV. I've had Gen1s, Gen2s, a Gladius and now Gen3s as track/race bikes.
@BB22Racing no way, that's awesome!! How were the Gladii? Im really excited for this season, gotta get my bike set up
Hello, I have a restricted R7 35kw but European version, are these restrictions the same as on the European version ?
I'm unsure. If you check the throttle plate you'd be able to see if it's similar to Australia. That might be one piece of the puzzle.
Keep those bloopers coming mate Fken love em sick of seeing fake people keep it real and I guarantee u will get some subscribers love the vid btw iv just put in a new order to get the 2024 r7
I've been doing it for the MT09SP gen 3. All the functionality is achievable using the 6 pin factory odb2 connector. I presume the ecu harness mods were for the race tools? Additionally I realised it was impractical to go from the stock 02 sensor connector all the way to the zeitronix logger which will be under the seat when there is already already power under the seat... so I made my own power adapter using the zeitronix supplied connector. With the fitment of the wideband o2 sensor into the narrowband o2 bung there are adapters available which are good enough. Most shops want to charge an arm and a leg for tasks like that and car exhaust shops will turn away people that look like they're trying to mod stock exhausts. There are welders out there that openly advertise that they won't touch exhausts.
That's great that you can do it all with the OBD2 connector. I haven't played around with it before, so it's pretty interesting to know. The ECU harness mods are so that the log box can interface with the ECU. You're very right about the stock o2 sensor connector as well, seems a lot easier to get 12v from somewhere near the seat where you'll have the Zeitronix box. Yeah, the adapters work well enough. For us, we were always going to install a Akra pipe anyway, so it's not really a big concern.
🤘
Considering the handling capabilities of those in front your bike is set up really well. I have watched a few of your races and you are not one to fuck around on that SV 650.
I'd really love to get over there and ride one day. Great video.
Hopefully one day! And thank you for watching!

We tested one in the video have a look at the dyno chart at @ 3:01 it does make almost 10% more power at 5500rpm, but you also lose a bit up the top.

They are a great bike! I've not been riding around Adelaide yet, definitely on the to do list!
