With listening to the podcast, I realized I glossed over a key question Luke asked me namely "key things to understand and ask before booking with an Outfitter". Therefore, I wanted to address this in the interest of helping listeners and viewers understand the answer to this important question! Key things to understand when considering selecting / booking with an Outfitter are as follows: (1) ensure the Outfitter is licensed! You can validate this in Colorado through the Office of Outfitters Registration within the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) and other Western states have similar organizations, (2) reviews and references both for successful and non successful hunts (3) understand the location, terrain / altitude and how that maps to your ability and expectations, (3) quality of camps, food and stock (ideally pictures too), (4) General "shot opportunity" for hunts offered (a good, outfitter will mention weather, public pressure, hunter fitness can all play a role) (5) Ask the Outfitter about their operation's expectations on you, the hunter (i.e. level of fitness, shooting skill, general health including any issues, concerns)

Very well done Podcast. The information conveyed here is spot on. I have known Bob for a lifetime. We grew up hunting and fishing together in the Catskills of NY State since we were teenagers. When he moved to Colorado he took with him skills that laid a foundation for his western Elk hunting passion. There’s a reason he has become top in his guiding skills. His passion, dedication and success comes from years of understanding the World of Elk. I have Elk hunted with Bob several times over the years and he never fails to impress me with his skill throughout the entire process. What he had to offer in this podcast is 100%facts from all my experiences in past years. Absorb as much as you can. Good job Luke and Carter!
