*ARCHIVE* Ride on Arriva Midlands 4777 - YJ56 KFL - Wright Pulsar Gemini - Service 85
Hey guys. This video was filmed way back in October 2022, but TH-cam was a bit of a dick uploading it at the time, so I decided to save it as an archive. Now you-know-what has finally happened, I thought there was no better time to upload it.
This is 4777 on an evening 85 to South Wigston. 85s at this time tend to be very slow and get stuck in a lot of traffic, but I struck it lucky, and having departed late, this driver was determined to make the time up, hence why it was filmed out of Leicester all the way to Countesthorpe.
This was filmed on a day of chaos and confusion, the day that the Krystals nightclub burned down, forcing a closure of the then-new St. Margaret’s Bus Station, which was frustrating for me as it would have been my first time getting the 85 from it. Nonetheless, I got my chance the following week, and it was actually this precise bus again. 4777 has a lot of significance to me, as it was not only the first bus I ever boarded at the new SMBS, but it was also the first bus I ever filmed a route visual on way all the way back in June 2018 (my 127 to Shepshed one), and it was also the first of these I had on the 85 since they became a possibility again when all the routes this side of Leicester transferred to Thurmaston operation at the end of October 2021. I wouldn’t be surprised if the first time I ever had one, which would have been on the 47, was this.
Memories indeed. As you know, I grew up with the DAF Lowlanders that came in for this route a few years earlier, but when these came in, I thought they were the best thing ever. They looked very modern, and 5-year-old me thought the bright Overdrive interior was probably the most beautiful thing in the world. For that reason, when one of these used to sway onto the 85 in those days, it was like Christmas had come early, and I’ll even admit that I used to get overly excited going to Wigston just because it meant going on these.
In 2007 or 2008, one of these came to the summer fete at my primary school for kids to explore and sit in, and because of what I just said above, they couldn’t keep me out of it, and I probably did sit in the cab of it, but me being as camera-shy as I am, no pictures were taken.
Unfortunately, the good times didn’t last, and by mid 2010, these were all working on services on the other side of Leicester with the whole of this side just being Lowlanders, which was a bit shit until the repaints made things more varied. Consequently, I didn’t get one again for a few years when I was old enough to start venturing further alone, this being 4758 on the 127. From then up until COVID hit, I had lots of adventures along that route along with the 5A and the 29, where I could finally see what these beasts could actually do.
All that’s left for me to say now is thank you to these one-of-a-kind machines for over 18 years of fantastic service. The end of these has also officially marked the end of service bashing for me, so expect no more of those trips (unless I wind up somewhere else that still has something interesting like a Pulsar, though this is highly unlikely due to my high car dependency).
My last ever one of these ended up being 4764 when I got that video of it back in January 2023. I did plan to go for one final bash when my car was in for a service in August, but 4760 was on the 47 and 48 that day, while 4761 was on the 104, so I never bothered.

Today saw the much hoped for return of Showbus, which was thought to have met its end two years ago after the 50th and final initially funded show. With new funding comes a new venue, and this year, it was the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre, just off the A41 past Aylesbury. It was a chaotic venue. With the showground partly flooded from the last week or so of horrific storms, some buses had to ...

If this hadn’t gone out at the same time, my video of 69154 could have been longer, but if I’d stayed on it, I wouldn’t have got this incredible looking vehicle. This is 30577, or 2717 as it technically is once again, one of 15 B7TL ALX400s that were new to Sheffield/Rotherham during the summer of 2002. These were actually originally planned for Bristol, but due to double-decker shortages in Sh...

The second ride I got was of a type that did run here in Leicester for 15 years, yet I never went on here due to the crap selection of routes that I had no reason to use outside of bashing. This is 69154, which has been on my bucket list for quite a while now. This might not have been the fastest run, only running down to Rotherham Interchange, but it was enough to hear that beautiful ZF. Don’t...

Welcome to the South Yorkshire Transport Trust Summer Open Day in Rotherham. First up is a ride of one of Mainline’s Dennis Dominators, 2120, taking me from the South Yorkshire Transport Museum where I parked up to the Transport Trust’s base on Chesterton Road. As you can hear, she is a beauty. This fine Dominator is an Alexander RH bodied example, and was new to Sheffield’s Herries Road garage...

To most people, the biggest surprise of tonight was probably England qualifying for the semi-finals at the Euros. To me, it was this ride of 3764, one of Arriva’s Pulsar 2s, filmed on the 85 to South Wigston. This should have been 4577, but the bustimes tracker showed it to have suddenly stopped at the end of New Road. 3764 was new to Cannock in January 2012 as part of the Chase Linx network th...

My other run from yesterday is now the oldest vehicle to date I have ever filmed. This is RM655, now Confidence’s 15. This, of course, is an AEC Routemaster, the iconic London bus. It began its London career way back in April 1961, and was originally based at Wood Green. It moved to Edmonton in July 1972, then to Enfield in March 1974, then down to Sidcup in April 1977. Its final London transfe...

It’s that time of the year again where the Quorn & Woodhouse Bus & Train Spectacular (which has been re-branded as something else but I can’t be arsed to see what it is) returns to town. This year it has taken place across the whole weekend, though as I had stuff to do at home, I only went today. First up is an improved video of one I got last year but wasn’t happy with due to my filming angle,...

Hey guys, this wasn’t a video I planned on filming, hence why it’s from upstairs, but after spending what felt like an eternity at the timing point, I knew I had to get a video. Taken from 4576, filmed on the 85 to Leicester, I knew I was in for a rough ride after the driver turned up 3 minutes early, then shut the door and shot off while I was still paying, which then led to the long wait at t...

Welcome aboard the newest addition to the world of bus preservation. This is 18071, one of the many Trident ALX400s Stagecoach ordered between 1999 and 2006. This was actually my very first time on one of Stagecoach’s and I must say, I was very impressed (definitely a lot better than when I went on NXWM’s 4126 at Showbus). This fine run was filmed between Leamington Spa and Coventry, and was on...

Re-filmed because I wasn’t satisfied with my old video. The final video I got at Quorn was a more recent vehicle. This is 32059, a Volvo B7TL ALX400, which has been preserved for nearly 2 years now. It has also received a new turbo recently. This was actually my second run of the day on it, having missed Commander 3704 thanks to 1902 getting badly held up by the roadworks in Loughborough. Due to the temporary lights at the A60 junction causing severe tailbacks, this year’s Bus & Train Spectacular videos have been filmed leaving Loughborough and returning to Quorn. First up is a Volvo B10M Alexander PS, a very popular single decker type with Stagecoach during the 1990s. This one started with Stagecoach Midland Red at Nuneaton in May 1995, and was renumbered 20202 during the natio...

A little something different today, but I was in town when I got the phone call confirming that my car was finally repaired and I could make my way down to Wigston to collect it, so here we are. This is Wright Pulsar 2 bodied VDL SB200 3808 on the 49 to Fleckney and Wistow. This isn’t the best Pulsar I’ve been on, and it struggled a bit with some of Welford Road’s hills. It retains its Sapphire...

Here’s an unexpected surprise I got this morning. This is Wright Pulsar II 3778 unusually on the 84 to Leicester. This’ll keep my spirits up while my car faults are (FINALLY) being fixed. 3778 was new at the end of 2013 for the 29 and 29A along with 3770-3777. However, they all transferred to Harlow for the 724 last year, leaving us with 3137-3144, though last month saw 3142 completely destroye...

The very same bus that I got a panel off from!
Aye that was a great run!
I'm going to forever miss these so much. It's such a shame my last ever time on one was 4761 on 127, which broke down in Birstall, not even making it onto the A6 slip road so did not even get one last A6 thrash sadly Still to this day I miss 4764 and 4765. The memories I've had with these I'll never forget.
Bus is now at Durham
Bus Now at Durham
Where are those citaros im aware the e200mmc replaced them but did they get transferred or withdrawn
Now with McGill’s up in Scotland.
I go to see lotes of bus !
Doesnt the first song have a stagecoach e200 dart in it?
It actually did.
Its wierd on that 1:15 that shaphire bus i thought this was the only bus b7tl on 49
Nope, the Sapphire B7TLs were always when the 49 when this was filmed.
Rlly i thought the rare allocations were 49 47 48 50 and if lucky maybe 104 or X45@leicestertravels4705
@leicestertravels4705 and it main 31 and X3 since that was there livery after they got the turn up and go livery off
@@TheAmazingBusSpotterOfficial They were allocated to the 31 and X3 to start with but they came off them in December 2017 to be replaced by the MMCs, only for them to be nabbed 6 months later. Until they left, the older Sapphires were just going anywhere really. And Wigston never ran the 104 so those Sapphires never did it.
Fucking love this bus 🔥🔥🔥
Absolutely lovely
02:07 I’m surprised the bus overtook the car, either the car was going very slow or the bus is a beast.
Those Citaros were beasts. As for the car, the A6 is still a local road between Leicester and Loughborough so chances are it was leaving at the next exit.
Song?
Song?
Another one on my bucket list, she may not be quite as good as 059 but she sure has a lovely ZF This would certainly bring back memories of the my childhood, especially 083 that had a similar sounding ZF.
32083 had an amazing ZF.
This is such a machine, I've been wanting to get it for a long time but have never had the chance to go to one of the South Yorkshire events.
Nice video, this is probably the best out of 3765 and 3766 but i still don’t really like the YJ61s
Yeah, the FL63s were the best round here. I don’t think I’m ever going to forgive them for swapping 3770-3777 for 3137-3144.
@@leicestertravels4705 Yeah same, one of the worst decisions ever made.
Damn I was away in Birmingham today, should've waited for this instead of crappy 4574 when I returned to Leicester.
I had 4574 going up. I thought it was just a slow driver.
@@leicestertravels4705 I must've had the same driver, mine was really slow.
Nice video, remember those buses on the 125/126/127 route through quorn on the old A6,Leyland olympians
Going to Dubai now. Guess what gate we’re taking off at? Yep, 44.
UPDATE: I may have been a year and a half premature, but these Olympuses have all now transferred to the Shires.
