Anything Can Happen on MACKINAC ISLAND!
We're going in mid September. Staying at mission point resort for a small wedding. I hope things are still ipen and don't know what to expect of the weather.
Is the water blue?
Town Symbol
wow, as the granddaughter of the owners (Robert and jewel ouradnik) this was an emotional watch but it made me happy to see this place made a lot of other people happy.
Miss you have no idea! This place, my old man took me many times as a kid I loved the smell of the place as soon as you get in,I loved eating the pecan rolls they serve there, I love the interior of the hotel. It gives me a an outdoor experience. it was so nice and peaceful there. I hope to god! Your grandparents keep running the hotel I heard it burn down, I hope you show your grandparents my comment this place is dear to me
Thank you so much for sharing your great adventures in Mackinac Island. My interests in that island grew after I watched the movie "Somewhere in Time " a beautiful love story I will never forget. ❤
🎉🎉BLACKBASS BAY❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
What places are open to stay at?
I spent one Christmas day hiking at the Cut River Gorge park. lots of snow & ice, but my family went wading in bare feet that day too. That was some icy water!
That is a great story! Thank you so much for sharing. That sounds like quite the adventure!
Is there any form of public transport??
What a beautiful perspective. Thank you so much for sharing this special endeavor.
Of course! Thank you for watching.
The tree behind you when you said you didn't know what kind it is? It's a tamarack. It's distinctive because the limbs appear to be stuck into the trunk at a 90 degree angle, and it's a deciduous conifer. In the UK it's called a larch. If you're a Monty Python fan, you may remember the recurring gag about learning how to identify different kinds of trees: the only tree they ever show is the larch.
Memory Lane for Me and Others who have been here in the past . ❤❤❤❤ Maybe the New Owners will recreate this building to it’s former Glory Days for everyone to enjoy once Again ?
Fun video, thanks. So now I have some question opting in my head. Can you eat on the island in winter?, Can you hotel there? Or is it simply bday trips via ferry? For the residents who live there, are there schools there for their children? Or is it just a skeleton crew to ‘hold the fort down’ during winter?
And here I am two years later as a 4 time Mackinac Bridge Walker. First year aka the year this video was on I walked it for the first time, then last year I did the double cross which is 2 total, and now this year I did another 5. Adding up, I have walked 20 miles across it 😅
Thanks for sharing this
Loved our visit and enjoyed the winter scenery. So different from summer.
I can’t get enough cracks in the earth!
They really were interesting, and so much of north east Michigan truly has unique land formations similar to this.
Who knows the name of the rock jutting out of the ground at :33? I would like to to go find that on my next visit there. What's the significance of it?
Hi Matt. That is Sugar Loaf Rock. It is located closer to the east side of the island. It is just one of several interesting land formations on the island. It is marked on most maps and isn’t a terribly long bike ride or walk from downtown. There are some hills though.
Thank you!@@ignition1991
Their missing a opportunitie for cross country skiing and snow shoe hiking.. ironically you can't ride a motorcycle but a snow mobile is ok..go figure.. beautiful anytime of the year!!.❤️🇺🇲
I did see a few people out and about on snow shoes. Also met some dogs! I honestly just loved the sound of the quiet island with my snow boots being the only thing breaking the silence and the wind in the trees. Truly beautiful any time of year!
@@ignition1991 agreed!.❤️🇺🇲
Specific directions?
You have to follow Misery Bay Road out east of town. Jess was driving so I can’t quite remember but it’s near El Cajon Bay.
Just stunning!
It really is. It never gets old.
Thank you💜💜💜
Spending the week between Christmas & New Years is on my bucket list. I have lived & worked on the island for numerous seasons. Currently living in Bangkok, Thailand Any information, assistance, advice in planning this wonderful trip will be greatly appreciated Can't wait to return to my happy place💜💜💜💜💜
Hello! Thank you for commenting. There are only two hotels at this point that stay open through the winter, Pontiac Lodge and Bicycle Street Inn. Doud’s Market is open, and the Mustang and Broken Spoke vary day to day.
@@ignition1991 Spoke is now Douds Irish Pub
Thank you soooooo much for filming this!!!❤❤❤
Of course! Thank you for watching!
Wonderful video beautiful scenery cool music excellent presentation! Thank you for sharing 👌
Thank you so much! It really is a great experience to go to the island that time of year.
I love the idea of an automobile free environment!
It is amazing! It is so quiet and peaceful!
I think you might have to give the TH-cam app permission to use your phone’s microphone.
😢 still no sound, and not online for us 🐾🦁
Can’t hear ya PJ 😢
Hmmmm, upside down and no sound. How DO you have so much trouble going live? LOL! Well, better luck next time. 😊
Not sure but someone was finally able to find a work around.
@@ignition1991 Okay good! 😊
i used to work at the grand hotel in the 80's
That is so awesome! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for doing this video. I arrived in 1971 to go to Windham College . While there have been many changes, anyone driving through after many decades would still recognize the area. AND thankfully we have Landmark College ..I truly shudder to think what would have happened if the state had placed their prison there. Thankfully they allowed us to vote on it and 2/3 of voters said NO.
That is so crazy! I’m glad the community of Putney was given a voice in that. Living there is amazing!
@@ignition1991 oh , you are so right! the campus had sat empty about a yr or two before they must have planned it. We had a Town Meeting about this .I still have the proposal. This was in 1980. So glad you are enjoying Putney!
If i were to ever run away, and believe me I have considered it, this is where I will go to.
I know the feeling!
@@ignition1991 Watch for me, I'll be the silver alert.
Love our State of Michigan ! ❤❤❤❤
I sure do too!
Very interesting! I've only been there in the summer.
It’s a much different vibe in the winter! Cold, not as easy to get around, but just wonderful!
I walked the 10 miles, the extra 5 miles after I found out the buses dont return you to the other side until 12.00 noon. I must have looked like a zoombie going back to my car but at 62 Im happy to look like anything live or dead walking ! See you all next year !
Hey good job! I was so tired after this bridge walk but it was so worth it!
Like the Shining in winter. Here's Johnnnnnnny😂
Yah I can see the comparison for sure!
I grew up on franklin street...back in late 50's.....pleasant thoughts....
I would not be able to cross that bridge right now. I don’t have a passport or an enhanced driver’s license. Some day I’ll finally get one of those, lol.
Check in with the Secretary of State office. The enhanced drivers license makes it so easy.
Great video! I didn’t even know that one existed. Growing up we always used the International Bridge in the Soo because, from here, it’s very close. Before 9/11 passports were not needed to go to Canada. The last time I went with my family to Canada was 1996. I haven’t been back since thanks to needing a passport or an enhanced driver’s license because I’ve never had the money for that kind of thing, but maybe someday.
I hope you can make it! Canada is beautiful 🇨🇦.
The Bluewater Bridge is the crossing I usually take when I head over to Canada. I haven't been over since 2019 went I went to Toronto. The views from the bridge are really cool though especially with those views of Lake Huron!
Yea for sure! I have not yet been out to Toronto but I want to!
Nice view! Yaknow? I don't think I've ever been across that bridge. I'm much closer to downtown Detroit, so we use the Ambassador bridge, or my preference, the Detroit-Windsor tunnel. We'll have to look at crossing the Bluewater at some point. Thanks!
I crossed the Ambassador once as a kid, not as an adult. I get it though. Yah you should Port Huron is a really nice town!!!!
Great video!
Thanks Mama!
Beautiful views while crossing the Bluewater Bridge! Thanks
Of course! Thank you so much!
Love it.
Thank you Jo! Appreciate you!
Amazing
Thank you Crystal :)
@@ignition1991 you're welcome:)

Wow! Frankfort looks like it would be so pretty to visit! Makes me want to go there!😮
I hope you can!
