three things in oz 1 we are casual and relaxed. 2 be on time . 3 be on time. a new zealand person was moving to oz and asked what culteral norms should she know. she was told straight away . BE ON TIME
🤙🤙
I can't add my own reply BUT no other country celebrate thanksgiving except USA!!
Why are you clowns pushing bullsh1t like halloween and thanks giving over here. Piss off. I'll celebrate the end of american civilisation before I celebrate anything else you have to offer. America is a blight on the world, most of us do NOT hold you lot in the high regards that you seem to hold yourselves.
I had a free Thanksgiving meal at my hostel in San Francisco. Lots of Turkey, ham, salad & pecan pie. Only thing missing was family and close friends! All back in Australia. Appreciated the meal as I was having to scrimp and save after 9 weeks in North America.
thanks for sharing! family is the most important part but a good pecan pie & you’ll never be lonely lol
Happy Thanksgiving! Excellent vid! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I actually posted a special humorous short vid to wish all of our American friends a very happy Thanksgiving (last week)🤙th-cam.com/users/shortsQtFFrqbfWxI?si=wsdkKF0XeGMut1sQ Best regards, Nigel Wesley
The only big Aussie family tradition we have had for around 50 years was I provided Christmas lunch for my family and extended family and friends who may not have celebrated because of old age or singledom. The cast of diners grew as the years passed and a few times we have had over 2 dozen sitting down to table covering four generations. The dishes “everyone” looked forward to was a scalloped potato bake and a zucchini slice. With it being anywhere from 25 C to 40 C on Christmas Day, we ate on the back deck (under cover) and if it was too hot, the oldies and babies ate in the air conditioned dining room while the younger ones would cool off between courses in the pool on the lower deck. We always had oysters, crayfish (lobster) and prawns for entree (I am allergic to all shellfish but prepared everything wearing a double layer of cotton and rubber gloves) and roast pork, Turkey, baked ham served with vegetables and salads for main followed by traditional desserts. Now, since my family have retired me from holding a Xmas Eve party for up to 40 friends of the family and also the family Xmas luncheon, I am only providing the Turkey and potato bake on Christmas Day. I don’t even have to do the Yorkshire puddings anymore as my daughter has mastered them. There was something I wanted to see, if you had on the table, and that was the often heard about American “biscuits and gravy” but I believe it is a regional thing it may not be something you even have on your table. Anyway, it sounds like your Aussie Thanksgiving was a huge success and that will be a memory to look back on. MY favourite food is my granddaughter’s Vegan Chocolate Mousse cake, made with silken tofu and topped with fresh strawberries and sprinkled with crumbled freeze dried strawberries … just to die for. I always over-catered for Xmas Day and had a stack of take away containers on hand for people to take food home to eat on Boxing Day. Now I am the recipient of a take away container or two myself and my granddaughter slips me a couple of extra pieces of her dessert 😉
sounds like A LOT! But definitely worth it! Thanks for sharing!
Very nice! Grandma and I had a very good turkey day. Thank the lord for his blessings for us. Love you Ty.
many blessings!!🤍
Definitely want that Mac n Cheese recipe 😋
Noted!
I want to eat something else 😅
definitely missing out 🤷🏽♂️
Imagine if Americans celebrated Australia day. It would be funny to see a bunch of Americans wearing shorts and thongs, standing around a barbeque, drinking beer and eating prawns, then playing some backyard cricket.
In the snow in January in a large part of America
@ Yes, I never thought about that!
would definitely be a funny scene, might be a bit cold to get a match of cricket in January out there tho!
Welcome to my home country. Whilst you're here, you should visit Sydney (where I live) and Melbourne. I believe you are living in north Queensland? You are residing in the tropics, where it is much more humid than in the southern states. Remember to visit shopping centres to obtain relief from the hot/humid weather! Let's see how long you start saying "g'day" instead of "hello" lol
definitely can’t wait to get down to melbourne! appreciate the support!
No tipping, free medical, beaches everywhere and you're going to have Christmas this year probably at the beach. I've been to America and I did tip, I worked out that it might be around about 15% so I did 25% lol. What can I say, better to be safe than sorry. I sure as hell didn't want the Americans angry at me because I was a bad tipper.
yeah definitely let these points slip! great point!
Not everyone uses terms like mate or brekkie...I know plenty of people that have never used any of those terms...Qld gets vey humid, but speaking of humid, Sydney is crazy humid, as I speak...You will find Melbourne and Tasmania are more temperate climates, as Im sure youve heard...Like someone else mentioned, hydralite is the thing if youre exercising in the humidity.
Melbourne does get humid, just not as often. The last few day as have been insanely humid…so much so that it’s all everyone is talking about when making small talk in stores and such. We’re sooking about it because we’re not used to it 😅
good to know! thanks for the insight!
You make a plethora of points. I reckon you're going great. Cheers mate.
hahaha im glad you enjoyed that! appreciate the support!
most sport in Australia and New Zealand is UK influenced like Cricket, which is popular in every speaking country apart from US
good to know!
Australia does not want yanks here, get out.
Hey Tyler, you are an economic refugee and nothing more. What's with the vlog? Are you yet another exceptional American that thinks anybody gives a sh*t about your first world privilege? Get a life and stop wasting the internet, mate.
Yeah North Queensland ain’t exactly the most cosmopolitan spot in the world. If you want diversity in food options go to one of the bigger population centres…Melb, Sydney, Brisbane etc….you will find just about anything. Especially amazing Asian and Middle Eastern. Not many pumpkin spiced lattes though….thankfully!
yeah for sure! will definitely be getting to some of the other cities soon!!
I'll give you 6 months before you get bored out of your mind and go back to the US
There is so much to see in our amazing country. I’m in beautiful Melbourne, you will love it. So glad you are enjoying it here in Oz.
can’t wait to get down to Melbourne! thanks for watching and supporting!
I’m always fascinated that few of these culture comparisons ever mention our kids go to their first 12 years of school and never hear of a lockdown or active shooter drill.
very fair point! partially due to youtube algorithms😅but you’re 100% right, a luxury that we no longer have in the USA unfortunately
McDonalds is better in Australia
way better!
The best part about moving to Australia if you dont like it or it bothers you go home we wont get upset or hurt, we will be happy for you.
@@waynefee1561 very happy to be here! not one complaint👏🏽
DON'T start with the ridiculous irrational question that dumb Yanks always ask at the start of their videos, like "What's goin on..." etc! And DON'T address us with the absurd expression "y'all" that the dumbest, least educated inarticulate southern Yanks use or call us your mindlessly sexist "guys". It's insulting to drag Aussies down to your idiotic level as if we'd accept that. I turned you off and won't watch any others you make to try to earn some money being typically ignorant septics.
Why woukd you think there wouldn’t be a different culture. Australia is actually a different country. Stop comparing because not one person in Australia gives a rats about America.
been traveling for 5+ years, never said i didn’t expect a difference. thanks for watching tho!
subbed. You seem pretty down to earth.
appreciate the support! thanks!!
Travelling……be cautious, orientate, inform, research support structures, use social media…..enjoy.
absolutely! thanks for the advice!
Language…..look ole mate, she’ll be right, you’ll switch on, mingle, rub shoulders, alls good mate.
haha yes! all those are great examples of what we would never say in the US!
Welcome to Australia, to you and your lovely. Keep experiencing, looking, tasting, mingle, explore……a positive demeanour develops postive opinions. Enjoy, settle in…..goodonyamate, cheers 🍻.
thanks for the support! hope you enjoy the channel!!
Lots of food in America yes lots of Junk food in America
way too much of it!
Going out for dinner in Australia, is very different. We don’t have to tip because their wages are sufficient, unlike in the US
yep! as it should be! us def needs to work on it smh
What do you mean australians speak English an are Americanized??
That made me LOL It’s called English for a reason because they invented it & not American at all 😂
not everyone knows🤷🏽♂️
I want to visit america. I have cousins who are american. I also have hawaiian ancestry
definitely recommend traveling for everyone! america is such a diverse place! just gotta know what you want to do while you’re there!!
Well another thing is in QLD, You can be fined $1,209 and have 4 demerit points recorded against your traffic history for using a mobile phone illegally while driving. And you posted this while breaking the road rules
camera was set up & hands were off at all times while driving 👍🏽
Food options depend on the town you are in - the smaller the fewer options. Makay isn't a massive town, but they do have that Indian Fusion restaurant that is great.
very true, made a trip to sydney recently and found some great choices!
Good and bad in every culture.
absolutely, australia, i would say more good then bad here!
Excellent insights 🤙
much appreciated!!
Oh, and the reason Queenslanders call their beer XXXX is they can't spell sh*t!
I dont know why anyone would move here. Its crap. And yea the food options suck here
Hi Tyler, when do you guys start playing? My son has developed an interest in basketball so i want to take him to see some games. I live in Mackay.
the nbl1 season will gear up in late february or early march!! hope little man enjoys the comp!
A fun day out meeting the wildlife! Enjoyed the video! Where was that farm? Or what town was it in?
definitely was! thanks for the support! google : bredl’s farm!
Welcome to a country that doesn't value freedom or democracy! Have you come to that realisation yet? You left Freeedom for Communism! I am about to move to the US to get away from this government intent on taking our rights away. I'd rather live in a country that values Freedom!
i feel pretty free!
Lol when I was a kid (back in the early 90s) our family went on holidays staying with family in cairns, I remember we went swimming in some fresh water river up in the rainforest, at that time the two crocodile species were 'the freshwater' and 'the saltwater' crocodiles, I remember swimming and seeing small freshwater crocs and turtles but because it was freshwater it was safe... I was up in cairns just afew years back with my family, and learnt how 'salties' were now called 'estuarine crocodiles' because the saltwater label gave people false confidences on safe swimming areas, as a kid common knowledge was that salties couldn't live in or found in freshwater, But now common knowledge says salties (or estuarine crocodiles)can be found in BOTH salt and freshwater... Lol _Long story short_ the very same river I swam in that time as a kid with my family these days have signs warning people of the dangers to swim😲🫢😂
haha main takeaway - stick to swimming pools in Australia😂
Not in australia tyler crocs are only in the North of Australia. Im in townsville croc populations are growing, where once we could swim it is now not possible but there are still places. Locals will educate you
Hope you enjoy your time here in Australia mate... From an Aussie perspective one small (yet interesting) culture shock I noticed the 1st time I visited the US was around basic etiquette when walking past/getting in the way of a passerby... In Australia if you accidentally walked in front of someone or got in the way of someone momentarily the common thing to say is, "I'm sorry" or "sorry mate" which would result in a simple "all good" etc... but when I would do the same in the US my "oops sorry", I would get responses like I was apologising for something and not just using casual etiquette for getting in the way. They found my "oh sorry" a strange response like I would find their "excuse me" when an American would do the same, because in Australia an 'excuse me" is not generally used as a friendly gesture but something you would say to someone when you are upset or angered by something lol. Just a little culture difference I noticed. Regarding ypur comments about the weather here in Australia, the reason why the heat has been noticeable for you is mostly because you are coming from winter in the US to the cusp of our summer, if you spent a decent amount of time here you will notice depending where you are here in Australia would be comparable to where you lived in the USA, only our winters here are alot warmer than what you would experienced in TX, in Sydney where I live winter average is around 60⁰F and summer 95⁰F
yep, Americans don’t always have the best etiquette but i promise we aren’t all bad 😂 you’re right on the weather side of it! thanks for supporting!
Welcome to Australia. Hope you get to have a look around more of Queensland and other states. Tasmania is really a must visit if you get the chance. ❤
thanks for the support! will definitely have to get down that way! subscribe to the channel to keep up with all the adventures!
Here is a sentence said in strine. Strine is a short form for Australia. Javagooweegen? ANSWER BELOW Did you have a good weekend?
haha for some reason it made sense to me!
Punctuality is a big thing here. I am always early for any appointment and would hate being late. Something my wife has yet to master I'm afraid...lol
haha i’m getting used to it now! took some adjusting to! thanks for watching!
Their are snakes in the USA too
true! but definitely not as many venomous ones!😄
🐊🐊🐊 gnarly bob
gnarly indeed!
This would have to be a first. The basketball court is just around the corner from where I live. Hope u are enjoying living in MKY bit hot here at the moment. 😊
thanks for watching & supporting! check out some of my other adventures in the area on my channel!
