    We put the burner on a slightly larger circle of carbon felt for insulation and drip some methanol on the felt and set fire to it. Works great with our military Trangia set known as a M40 stainless steel mess and cooking set. Ebikecnx7239

    Very interesting indeed. What temp do you think the meths would freeze at? Lovely to hear the squeek of really cold snow.

    Well done, thank you, interesting to see the winter attachment in action and how it performs in cold weather, something that challenges all stoves regardless of fuel type. If your only after a coffee on the trail, perhaps a thermos might be the answer so your bride doesn’t think your crazy. I do the same things, I’m not one to judge and after 35 years my bride still keeps me company on the trail but occasionally shakes her head. Happy trails!

      Oops, ...If your only after a coffee..." an all too common mistake. It should be you're or you are. Although when spoken your and you're sound the same, when written you're and your have completely different meanings and usages. When writing your, that which follows belongs to the person you are writing to.

    I do have the preheater and agree it works very well, but I had trouble fitting it in a couple stove stands I sometimes use. I usually just carry a bunch of cotton balls with me now. Drop one in, give it a few seconds to soak, then hit it with a fire steel. Coldest I've done that at was -27C. :)

    Hey this was a great instructional. How would you feel about depending on this system on a 10 day trip with temps like what you’re experiencing in the video. Melting snow for cooking and drinking water everyday of the trip, cooking in general and just whatever else goes along with needing a stove in a deep winter trip. Thanks man.

    try this method. don't know if it will work at that extreme temp., but it works for me around 10 F. use tiny bit of toilet paper as a wick !

    -20 this weekend my Trangia system worked perfectly! What did not work was my lighters. Two different bics both failed to even spark! Matches are a must at those temps, I found. I am 100% in love with the Trangia. A work of art!!

    in the Atacama desert I used it at -20C, the problem though was lack of oxigen (at 4000m), not just the cold (though water bottles inside of our jackets got frozen solid that night) It was a very nice relief to drink a tea afterwards! At high altitudes and cold, gasoline stoves like the Whispy or my old Optimus Svea work best, otherwise I love Trangia and Firebox.

    -38 C or Fahrenheit. That low does it really matter. 😊

  • @shinysidedown9090
    @shinysidedown9090 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The pre-heater is quite expensive. Try using a small strip of paper - just dip one end in the fuel, light it and place it in the burner. You could also use a tea candle under the burner.

      Pre-heater somewhere around $6-8 worth every penny, saves messing about with bits of paper, string or candles! Regards from a very warm U.K. at -1c😂

    • @shinysidedown9090

      Canada $35! Set the burner on an alcohol soaked price of fibre glass. Paper works faster and weighs a gram.

    Light the pre burner first and after a while you can see the vapour coming from the main burner then light it. Lift the handle on your kettle first as it may become to hot to touch. 🙂
