Gan/Addu former Indian Ocean RAF Base plus Tsunami story
A remote Atoll far south of Male. Former "off limits" RAF Base, now accessible for basic tourism. On a second visit we missed the 2004 tsunami just by seconds.

tons of videos on the web about those somehow dangerous places for aircraft landings and starts. I visited them all by plane.
Bumpy Piper landing on Iles des Saintes plus Speedboatride

Approaching des Saintes, French Caribbean is quite tricky, but once i´ve been there a boatride with a local friends powerboat was fun especially when taken to a secluded beach having some planters punch (not recommendable midday with 32 centigrade...)

one of the few airports where you can watch landings at the beach right below incoming planes - But landig over calm water makes you think the plane will hit the water.
Rijeka, Croatia: stormy missed approach, landing and start
มุมมอง 3917 หลายเดือนก่อน
flying there several times each year I experienced Rijeka/Krk Airport due to frequent crosswind heavy bora winds quite often as "non landeable" meaning change of direction (as here) or going to Pula, Zagreb, Venice. As Pilot I like it - the folks onboard sometimes cry or pray (really). But don´t worry, no accidents because of creel safety measures and skills of the pilots.

Porto Santo is the quiet sister island of Madeira and sometimes used as an alternative when landing in Funchal is not possible due to strong winds. Worth a visit and nice landing on this outer atlantic post.

Sounds like an unforgettable adventure! Des Saintes must be beautiful, but I can totally see how the midday sun and a Planter’s Punch could be a bit much! Definitely worth it for that secluded beach vibe though!

That sounds like quite the challenge but also an amazing experience! It must take a lot of skill to handle those winds. Kudos to the pilots for keeping everyone safe, even when it's a little scary for the passengers!

flight of a lifetime. They put the doors out so you can have gorgeous views down. Only careful with the cam - the rotors pressure can rip it off your hands and then its gone forever..
