Lore of the Wilds is a wonderful entry into romantasy! Book two: Lore of the Tides is out July 8, 2025. I am very excited about this sequel! A library with a deadly enchantment. A Fae lord who wants in. A human woman willing to risk it all for a taste of power. In a land ruled by ruthless Fae, twenty-one-year-old Lore Alemeyu’s village is trapped in a forested prison. Peng Shepherd author of All This and More

This is a short interview in which Peng Shepherd talks about her newest book All This and More! This book is out now and I very much recommend it. I had previously DNF'ed the book when the publisher sent it to me, I was in a rough spot with depression and this book made me feel WAY TOO MUCH! I recently finished the main story line and am in love with the book and the "choose your own adventure"...

I saw this book and knew I needed to talk to Jeff. This is the first English translation of the Godzilla novels by Shigeru Kayama. I loved this book and need you to also love it, or at least like it. Mostly because I hella want a Mothra translation from Jeff.
Alix E Harrow author of Starling House
มุมมอง 826ปีที่แล้ว
Alix E. Harrow has been one of my favorite authors since her debut novel The Ten Thousand Doors of January. Starling House is Alix's gothic novel with a lot of Greek mythology references. The atmosphere is well done without being overbearing. I recommend this book wholeheartedly. Do not be mistaken, gothic does not mean scary. This book is not a horror story.
Kim Conrey author of Stealing Ares
มุมมอง 20ปีที่แล้ว
Kim Conrey's books are a warm blanket when you don't feel well, or hot chocolate (the good kind where you melt real chocolate and add mini marshmallows) on a crummy day. Stealing Ares was a fun sci-fi romance read that had a gut punch of emotions. The book follows Harlow (a thief from Mars) and Jack (a wayward prince from the UK) as they unlock the mysteries of the Ares ship. This ship is the o...

Oh my goodness! I grew up in Chicago, where John Prine’s family wound up, and bought the album with “Paradise” on it when it came out. My first professional job took me to West Tennessee, where I listened to a radio station out of Mayfield, Kentucky. I’m dumbstruck and deeply moved at all these Weird Coincidences. Oh, yeah, I’ve just started reading “Once and Future Witches.” Thank you, both, for this lovely conversation, which, only 6:34 into, I was Compelled to comment. (And the side eye shoutout to Faulkner, an old favorite, also lit up my board!) 👍👍❤️😊
I love these books and while I love all of the characters and storylines, when I hear Erin's voice pop into my ears I'm always happy. She is my favorite and her voice is a large part of why I love these books. That part in the first book when she cuts her hand, absolutely awful moments for the character but after that, Erin's voice makes me excited for the next shenanigans she embarks on. Just as a foil to people who complain about Erin's voice.
I loveeee the house witch books and all the others!! Waiting now eagerly for the ether witch! ❤
I read the whole first book saying ZANG in my head only to see this and was like "is it a J sound?" I was looking it up further and found that even you and the Author are actually saying his name wrong. Apparently it's not Jang with a long A it's supposed to be a short A or not even a short A it's more like a U sound an UH sound... JUNG. th-cam.com/video/b9LPTxCG-38/w-d-xo.htmlsi=NAnCgGANYXxaI907
I am as far as the Nobel prize for acting
Yes same. 😊
Love this interview and author!!
She is so awesome I am even a patron of hers on Patreon, lol
Yes same.
Andrea is literally a godess among voice actresses
I have always had a question for andrea parsneauu :" Are you so far above the other mortal readers that you are a god, beyond not just us mortals understanding but also other narrators? Or are you just a God, out of usmoretals understanding but at the peak of understanding of other talented narrators? " In other words do you not use an external voice changer,(you have mastered voices and reached perfection in naaration ) or do you use one? (you have reached perfection in narration).
That's a good question. Idk how much she actually looks at these comments though so you might not get an answer lol
@UpperPenPodcast life is a game. Game is hard.
Dude this series has the worst cover art ive ever seen on audible. Series is slick and tasty tho
I think the book covers got better. The newer ones are similar to classic fantasy novel covers and I enjoy them. I do get where you are coming from though, lol
Fantastic, thank you
You are welcome! I love chatting with such skilled people!
Kate O'Hara! FINALLY! THANK YOU! You have no idea how hard it has been for me to find the artist of these book covers. 😫
The same thing happened to me. I accidentally read the first book of Burning Witch before I found Princess of Potential. I actually liked reading it in that order.
Lol, thank goodness I'm not the only one. Did you like the books? I love how funny they are!
@UpperPenPodcast I love them all. I bought the first book for my birthday this past December and by the end of January I had read every book that was out 😅.
That's very similar to what happened to me. I listened to the audiobooks with my husband through August and now I am in the middle of the burning witch books!
Love his series
I love the good guy it is one of the best litrpg ever, and it is one of the most intelligent litrpg out there. Go get the audiobook for free on audible if you are a premium member.
I really love the bad guys too! It's a fun juxtaposition
@@UpperPenPodcast I am planning to start it after I finish the good guys
I only started listening to LitRPG genre books about 5 months ago. The first series I listened to was the Dungeon Crawler Carl books. Needless to say, I was amazed by both the story by Matt Dinniman and the voice acting by Jeff Hays. After listening to all the books in that series, I was jonesing for the next thing to read. After hearing a lot of good things about The Wandering Inn I decided to give that a try. 12 books and 500+ hours of listening later, I think this has become my favorite series of all time, both in terms of the author Pirateaba and Andrea Parsneau's wonderful voice bringing the characters and story to life! I'm late to the party, but I really enjoyed this interview!
No one cares if you are late! I just want more people to love LitRPG so it becomes mainstream!!
This was my husband and I also!!! Suh amazing books love both series ❤
I'm going to try to be a little bit vague here so I don't include any spoilers, But for the actual reason I'm here, So I've just finished the Arcane Ascension series and picked up WOBM book 1-Forging Divinity. Nick, I LOVE that you've kept the voice of, let's call him, The Wielder fairly recognizable all the way across all the books. I haven't read any of the books other than the AA series with Corin Cadence, meanwhile I've jumped back to Forging Divinity. A whole new place new story line new characters, but I am immediately able to recognize a familiar voice. 😮😅 Love it Thank mate keep up the great work. You too Andrew, without you Nick couldn't bring those characters to life.
He is so good right?!
One of the great narrators of today, right along with Pavi Proczko, Heath Miller, and let's save the best, in my ears, for last, not saying he's like the AAbsolute best out of all of em but just saying... he might be, maybe a little, I think he is,..... the amazing Travis Baldree.
What books do Proczko and Miller narrate?
@@UpperPenPodcast Miller narrates the He Who Fights With Monsters series by Shirtaloon and Proczko narrates The Defiance of the Fall series. They both have much more on their resume but those are the series they narrate that I'm listening to that are currently attempting to enthrall me, pointlessly attempting because with my willpower levels enthrallment is just a wasted attempt. I am, however, grossly enamored with the series.
Lol, my willpower level is woefully low
Let's not forget author Andrew Rowe. Nick's narration of the Arcane Ascension series along with the preceeding series The War of Broken Mirrors, is the whole reason why I'm here
This is great series of books. It is a must read or listen on Audible. I cannot wait for the last book.
They are so funny! I love them
Can anyone help with how to say the name 'Haoirse' lol for the life of me I can't pronounce it
I've no idea either, lol
@@UpperPenPodcastit's really annoying me haha I keep going back to it and trying different ways of saying it but nothing sounds right
I understand, before the interview I always ask how to say main character names and such, and sometimes the answer is "I don't know" or "the narrator chose how to say it" to which I internally scream, lol
Book 1 was great. Switching narrater and 2 is not worth listening to if it was free.
Dakota Krout had to switch narrators for one of his series and I had a really hard time listening to the rest even though the other guy was a good narrator. I think I had to wait a few months before I could listen again.
Started reading already like “the human equivalent of unsalted butter” hehe whatever that means and “suicide is a folded hand and I’m no quitter” 😊
I love the snark lol
@@UpperPenPodcastI enjoyed this book! Now I’ll watch the interview ❤Luke 15:32
Excellent interview! I love her narration, and your interviews with successful narrators are very helpful for new folks in the business like myself. Thanks!
I'm just getting into audiobook narration. I have 4 titles on ACX, nothing huge. I found this interview very insightful and I know this will help me up my game. Thanks a lot both of you!
That's awesome! I really want these interviews to be helpful for people! Let me know what you've narrated so far, I'd love to look it up.
@@UpperPenPodcast the latest project I've finished is called The Final Case Files of Allen T Grey, it's a paranormal investigation book and my favorite so far. I've also done two books in the paranormal western genre that were ok; the first is called Wicked Westerns and the second is called Hungry Shadow: A Wendigo Joe Novel. Those were the first two I produced (got in good with the author) with my original audio setup. I also did a book in the self help/spirituality genre that I'm not particularly fond of lol. Not sure if those are your style but I appreciate you checking them out. Thanks again for the videos, I'm going to be watching and learning more from them.
It's awesome that you are trying a lot of genres! I think the Allen book might be my speed. Thanks for the list!
@@UpperPenPodcast thanks a lot. I just remembered that I have a bunch of promo codes that I can't use because I'm Canadian but if you have an American account this promo code should work 2JR46FALCME3Q
Great interview.
Ness Brown was wonderful to speak with! I hope you enjoy The Scourge Between the Stars!
So I like to read but after listening to Andrea narrate I do nothing but listen to audiobooks I've listened to everyone that she is narrated I am currently on Azarinth healer book 1, and honestly after listening to her back story there's a lot of inspiration there I'm in the same condition with my back I'm due to have a seven level fusion difficult and thought for 9 years to get disability but this is not where I want to be, I really want to do something with my life I thought narrating in the past just for something to do you know shits and giggles but to know that it can be accomplished hey I might not be the greatest I might really suck and never get anywhere but hey why not try I know she has an awesome voice and she does a hell of a job hats off male or female doesn't matter you are the best narrator I've ever listened to, I'm sure I'm older than you but you are my idol
You should give narrating a try!
Ms. Parsneau elevates whatever story she's performing, So happy to have found her through "The Wandering Inn."
Have you listened to the Tower of Somnus books by Cale Plamann? She does so great in them!!
@@UpperPenPodcast Not yet, but I'm sure I'll get there eventually. I'm on the Somnia series at the moment.
Andrea is such an incredible VA. The Wandering Inn is hands down my favorite series ever, and the only thing that keeps me from reading ahead is just how much life Andrea brings to the world. Every character is fantastic, she was the perfect choice for the series.
I know! I feel this way about so many books now because of narrators I love!
Oh, I 100% agree with this.... Erin was/sounded sooo annoying at first! xD I'm already a bit past book 11 now, but I'm gonna buy the audiobooks anyways. I never came across another narrator with such good voices and so much emotion in the voice before.
That's awesome!
Omg I'm so happy I found this interview. I definitely cannot imagine The Wandering Inn without Andrea's narration. Even when I read the text version, I can't help but hear the characters in the way that Andrea chose to voice them. Same goes for Reba Burr (with things like RavensDagger's Cinnamon Bun, and Benjamin Medrano's Beesong Chronicals), Nick Podehl with almost everything written by Andrew Rowe, etc. narrators that I feel like are integral to the books/series. Protect the narrators at all costs. Btw, I've always wondered if some writers communicate how they want their characters to sound like in the audio book version, or if it's usually left up to narrators to come up with the voices.
I will always here her when I read any book she has narrated lol
That was a Great interview with Andrea. I love her work and it was fascinating to learn about her beginning, and to get a glimpse inside the narration industry. Also, I never knew she had been handicapped. I'm even more impressed with her now.
She was is so awesome!
Love Andrea Parsneau, not as good as Kate Reading but still great.
Oooh. I'll have to look Kate up!
TWI as to be the best narrated books out of all the audiobooks available everywhere
Loved the books!!!
Me too! Check out Lore of the Wilds, it has a similar feel to me!
I loved the first book . The second one was good but I find is a great stepping stone for a third one!
Hi everyone, this is Hays, the one from Andrea’s stories. I wanted to thank everyone for such wonderful and kind words. It means the world to both of us that you all enjoy her work. Thank you so much for!❤
Man I love that voice, got through some audio books because of the narrator
When I get to a slow part of the Good Guys, Neil pulls me through lol
I'm half way through it's amazing I'll be finished in one day too
It's so good right?! I loved book two as well!
Upperpen, have you listened to "He who fights with monsters"? The narrator Heath Miller does a great job in my opinion.
I haven't but it's on my list.
@@UpperPenPodcast It ties with the "Wandering Inn" series as my favorite Lit. RPG series. He who fights is more action oriented than Wandering Inn but both have great world building and good humor. I've found lately that humor is really important to me in the books that I listen to.
I LOVE humor in LitRPG books! It is the main draw for me honestly lol
What blows me away is how she can transition from deep gravely male voices into a female voice. She is simply the best!!!!!
Andrea and Jeff Hays are amazingly talented!
I know I am super late to this interview, but hands down she is my favorite narrator! I absolutely cannot wait until the next TWI audiobook !!
After this video, I am getting the impression she is a lot of people's favorite. Lol. She is for sure one of mine!
This book was so fantastic! Just finished it and both characters are interesting and it left me with a feeling of wonder and wanting more tales from them! Amazing work!
I love his stories! They are funny and touching and written so freaking well.
These books bring joy to my life
Love to your mom ❤
I like dual narrators
Any in particular?
@@UpperPenPodcast Christopher Boucher and Jessica Threet are two very good narrators.
When i started listening to The Wandering Inn this narrator drew me into it she has kept me wake many a night and i got to say i love her voice oh btw sword art was my first Anime too my children think i am crazy as i am 60 years old and love it ope she never stops
I love her too!
Great books. My number one issue with the entire series is the lack of romance. Or at least sex...
I don't really mind, mostly because his Bad Guys books have a little romance in them.
@UpperPenPodcast I know. I am up to book 9 on that one too and it's just underdeveloped for me. The character obviously shows interest but doesn't act on it. So unrealistic character development for me. Plus I am surprised how little other spells are being used.
Good point. I have been on a bit of a romance binge lately and wonder why there aren't litRPG romances...or many of them anyway.
@UpperPenPodcast Have you read Primal Hunter? It's another series I am currently reading, and I feel like they have it better in that regard.
I haven't yet. I own it , but just haven't gotten to it. Maybe that will be the litRPG I start 2024 with.
Love these series. Short, fun, great humor, great characters, interesting world. Really looking forward to the next installment of Bad Guys.
They are super fun!
Couldn't stand anymore her Erin's voice after 4 chapters so I stopped the serie (sadly, I can't read it)
Sometimes a book series isn't for you. There is no shame in that! I've DNFed a few books/series.
