Two days in Birmingham and all I got was this 1.4x convertor!
มุมมอง 6192 หลายเดือนก่อน
I’m just back from Birmingham after attending The Photography Show. Find out what I saw and the amazing bargain I bagged by attending!
I have been using DXO software for many years. It simply works better than anything else I have tried. I also like it is a one off purchase rather than subscription. Happy Birthday DXO
CaptureOne is what professionals use. Lightroom is for kids.
Very helpful, especially letting Lightroom move the folders for you onto an external drive!
Glad it was helpful!
Very good explanation Rich
Thanks David
With the basic Microsoft Office subscription, you get OneDrive and a free 1 terabyte of storage. Plenty for most people.
I am mostly a bird photographer, and I rely on an RF 100-500 mm mounted on my R7, which is more than enough for most needs. Sometimes when I need more reach, I add the 1.4x TC; when done for reach, it's not a problem to lose the lower end of the zoom range, which I understood before my purchase. In my experience, this combination doesn't appear to compromise either image quality or autofocus performance, though this may not be the case with a lower resolution sensor or a lens with more optical imperfections. Moreover, compared to cropping in post, the bird-eye tracking autofocus appears to lock on more readily when the eye occupies a larger portion of the viewfinder, an advantage that has been mentioned by other reviews of the 1.4x TC. As for the loss of 1 stop of light, I have 700 mm effective reach at F10, which compares to Canon's F11 prime at 800 mm. I therefore have no hesitation recommending this combination for birds and wildlife.
OK, let me see if I got this right. Since the glass is so good, and the sensor too, then the reach can truly be achieved with cropping? (I have been trying to really choose the right new camera for several months while I retire. I have a 5D mark iii, and have been considering several cameras, including APC ones. So far my favorite shots of my own have been macros and nature abstracts. I have aspirations for wildlife, and I live on a pond so that's already happening -- even with sloooooow autofocus. I have 2 pixelated smudges of an eagle getting a fish. I'm practicing!) But the question is really about actual telephoto images via glass to your eye/brain --- versus cropped images in print or on my big monitor as I work. What really matters is how close they are to each other. Not whether the glass is the biggest, because honestly I will never spend 12K on a lens I don't want to carry on a hike.
To the first question, no. You don't alter the reach at all; you are simply magnifying what you have cropped back to a larger size. This is not the same as a true optical zoom, which uses a longer focal length. The only reason a full-frame camera does a better job is that it's a larger image you start with when you cropped.
If you crop you do not lose light but as you increase the magnification you get more visoble noise and to keep it in control you must lower the ISO so you effectively are at the same point. There is no free lunch. Essentially crop and teleconverter produce similar results. With crop you'll lose pixels but with converter there is the optical elements that can cause blurring. One solution is to use a high megapixel crop body like R7 but that of course costs way more than a teleconverter and is more things to carry.
The only thing that I didn’t enjoy about being around other photography enthusiasts when I started my journey was the ‘snobbery’ some enthusiasts would dismiss the equipment I used and would praise their expensive hand made Leica etc…I never actually seen any of their photographs, I was forced to listen to their expert opinions…I reckon I used my Zenit TTL bought as a gift for me from my sister more often than my critics used their expensive precious ornaments, at 16 I was employed as a photography sales assistant with a shop that supplied the local professionals in Glasgow and have always encouraged people to get out and use whatever they have…that’s how they will learn what kit they might actually need or that what they have in their iPhone or smartphone is capable enough for what they enjoy doing..!😇
Thanks. I've been using Nik (plus PhotoLab, FilmPack, and ViewPoint, as well as the Topaz suite) for several iterations and they're all great (much better IMO than their Adobe counterparts, which I have but no longer use). That said, although I can certainly afford each upgrade, IMO they charge too much for the often incremental updates. Reward loyalty, don't penalize it! I usually wait until Black Friday as they cut prices then (but that's a long way off!). Anyway, back to the changes for v7, the main complaint I have operationally is what you mention at 4:25--the need to export to Nik from PhotoLab (and often back). Why can't they integrate Nik into PL (as they have FilmPack and ViewPoint)?! AS you show, that seems to have changed when it's used as a plug-in for LR/PS, but what about keeping it all all-DxO workflow? Is that feasible? If not, then how ironic is it that DxO is screwing over their own users by making it more difficult to use with PhotoLab... Not only that, but they've cheaped-out by adding DeepPRIME XD2 to PureRaw but not to PL7 (of course, they will for PL8, for yet another excessive up-charge).
Thanks for a well done video.
Great! You hit the nail on the head. Eye to the viewfinder and finger on the shutter release. Then THINK about the shot I have. What could I have done differently to improve it. When the process becomes intuitive I'll get better. Good stuff and fun to listen to. You pointed out rightly... that "overnight success" normally comes at the peak of years of work. Good thing we like this photography thing.
Sports & Wildlife. Just like every 1 series before. If you can afford it, you need it. If you can’t, you’ll come up with reasons why you don’t need it. It will be a beast.
An R8 can fulfill all that you need. People are brainwashed to seek tech they will never need.
Nice video & lovely tips
😂
I bought a Canon flagship camera in 2013. It was the 1D X and the price was €5,999, which was really painful. I do not need most of the specs, but it still serves me well today. For me it was just important to get the most durable camera I could get. My biggest fear was a camera breaking while I am travelling and need it every day. So if I bought an R1 next year, I would like it to last another at least ten years again. Then the price per year is not that high.
That is a good point, flagship cameras are built like tanks. I had a 1DX MKII, and it was indestructible. My first camera is an R5, which has taken me to some pretty rugged places, and it has held up really well after four years. I could see it lasting easily at least double that. The other option that us Canon shooters have is the R3, which will no doubt reduce in price - that's flagship in all but name - just as rugged, very powerful for a pro shooter and a couple of thousand pounds/dollars/euro cheaper.
Thanks for the video. Please do get a lav or external mic.
I've been using Nik software since the first version, but haven't bothered upgrading since V4. I just haven't seen a significant enough improvement to warrant it... and I still don't with this latest release tbh. It's pretty much only SFX that I use in the suite now, and the problem there is that it was great from day one, and the odd bit of icing here and there isn't going to make me want to spend £145.
Very succinct
Nice and informative video indeed. The only small, slightly negative technical aspect was that your voice was only on the left audio channel and not both right and left. But, it was still a highly informative and well done review. And...I can understand the not shaking an accent problem. I am originally from Mississippi in the U.S. and have lived in Germany for 14 years now and people hear my southern twang and immediately think I am from Texas. 😂
excellent video - thank you
Have been a Nik User since the beginning and have upgraded with each new version to support the continued development of the software but this feels half-baked. Agree that DXO just improved their noise. reduction in Pure Raw, why not bring that here? I have also found myself using the Nik Collection less and less. Likely went through a stage where I used a lot of filters and in a different frame of mind now. So debating whether to spend the money to upgrade.
Great Video Rich.
Thank you for taking the time to do this wonderful video of Nik Collection 7. I really appreciate it ❤🎉❤🎉❤
Thanks very helpful, I was looking at the new Ifootage Cobra Strike 3 on Kickstarter. But this is only available in September and this monopod looks the same. You sound like your from my neck of the woods, the north west l, I'm from Southport. 👍🏻
Thanks, Mark. Yes, the other advantage of buying off-Kickstarter is that you know you will definitely receive the item. While rare, I have had one or two that have never come up with goods. I've lived in Scotland since 1995, but I still can't shake off my accent from the east of Manchester 😆
Aps-c only 😒 canon is the worst
I can see why APS-C first from Sigmas perspective. Pros tend not to use 3rd party lenses and their biggest market will be the consumer market. They will mainly be using the R10, R50 and R100. Full frame will come, just not first.
I will get a R7 the moment Viltrox 27 & 75mm 1.2 are available.
Now the genie is out of the bottle, I'm sure there will be more 3rd party lenses, particularly if the quality is as good as the reviews say the Viltrox lenses are.
You just described almost exactly my back-up strategy. More than 20 years of photos are safe and I'm sleep at peace. I like your tone and pace... Good video! 🖖🏻
Thanks Rodrigo
