Mark had his fall break, so we decided to try glamping. It was pretty cold in Kazakhstan. When we arrived, the administrator explained everything we needed to know-except one important detail. I thought I’d put our food in the fridge later, as the fridge was in the common area. After the trip, we lay down to rest, but suddenly Mark spotted a mouse! He saw it jump right into our food bag. I quickly grabbed the bag to put the food in the fridge. As I was doing so carefully, the mouse unexpectedly jumped out, scaring me half to death.
The administrator then told us to press the ultrasound button to keep animals away. We calmed down, thinking the worst was over. We went for a walk to explore the area and then started cooking over the fire. Mark was handling the fire, and I was prepping the food.
Later, we returned to our place to eat in warmth and watch a movie. Mark saw another mouse, but we figured it wouldn’t come closer. However, as we were getting ready for bed, more mice appeared. We could hear them in the roof and even inside our room! Sleeping was impossible. At one point, I turned on my phone’s light and saw a mouse staring at me from the table. By 5:50 a.m., we decided it was time to pack up. We had another night of glamping planned, but that was enough wildlife for us.
We took our bags to the reception area, packed up our food, and went for a walk to find internet to call a taxi while waiting for the staff to wake up. After reaching the top of the hill, we finally got a signal, and the taxi driver called back to confirm. We were so relieved! I informed the administrator that we were leaving. She even offered us a cat for an hour, but it didn’t seem like a solution at that point. Thankfully, they refunded us for the day we didn’t use, and we were more than happy to return to civilization.
