Im gonna give my opinions here before watching. Demon's souls: poison swamp area. Though its a slow poison swamp being in it completely disables rolling. Meaning all strats without shields get hard punished. Dark souls 1: lost izalith. Being very unfinished bland and having what is to this day considered the worst boss ever made by fromsoft and another boss thats just a third copy paste of the tutorial boss. Izalith is just such a massive waste of potential. Dark souls 2: im going with the whole area that comeises the gutter. Dark souls 2 has quite a few bad areas and suffers with terribe enemy placements and spam throughout and it has plenty of competition oike frozen outskirts which is definitely the worst ever boss runback. Iron keep and shrine of amana alao have the worst projectile spams but i still think the gutter area is just overall the worst area. Partly because of how much wasted potential the area had as it was one of the areas that had to be gutted during the troubled development but also as it takes the concept of blighttown and just butchers it while throwing in the tomb of the giants darkness and spamming poison statues everywhere that fire a poison projectile that can stagger and even headshot you. Combine with multiple collapsing floor trolls, pit trolls, and ladder trolls, with tons of enemy spam ganks and when you do finally reach the second half of the level you are subjected to about twn times as many statues plus several back to back npc invasions only to have quite the lack luster boss at the end. Dark souls 3: Irithyll dungeon. This is mostly just because of the jailer enemies which are one of the worst enemies ever designed draining your max hp just by looking at the player is a dumb gimmick though at least its not too difficult as they only have like 1 attack with a follow up grab if it lands and its heavily telegraphed. Still though fuck that one room with like 12 of them in it. Bloodborne: the chalice dungeons if you want to count them as an area. Very boring and monotonous level designs with equally weird enemies. Though it does have some unique bosses most enemies are recycled from the rest of the base game. Some of the curses applied to the player are also quite too punishing in my opinion I wont comment on elden ring or sekiro as i havent yet beat those games yet.

Really the main plot of the game is pretty straightforward. You are an undead locked away to rot in a remote asylum to await the end of the world. One day however you are given a glimmer of hope when a strange knight drops a corpse with the key of your cell on it allowing you to escape. After escaping your cell and scavenging weapons off of some corpses you narrowly avoid a boulder trap and discover the knight mortally wounded. He tells you about his prophecy of ringing the bells of awakening to discover the fate of the undead he passes on to you an estis flask filled with the heat of a bonfire and another key to make more progress. The player confronts the asylum's demon guard killing it and pillaging the key to the front door. However upon escaping they come across a cliff face and a giant crow appears and drags them off. Being dropped off in firelink shrine they learn from the crestfallen where to find the two bells of awakening. From here the player can then take any number of pathways and interact with several npcs including the cleric Petrus, the mute firekeeper, and a trapped sorcerer blacksmith if they find their way into new londo. But for most people they will likely only notice petrus and the crestfallen knight and head off into undead burg and defeat taurus demon. Make their way to parish probably meet solaire and andre the blacksmith then challenge the gargoyles abd ring the first bell. Then travel to the depths and blighttown defeating capra, gaping, and then quelaag ringing the second bell. Then after opening the pathway to sens fortress they make their way through it and defeat the golem and are carried to anor londo as the reward. There you meet another firekeeper who guides them to the cathedral and ornstein and smough challenging and defeating the pair the chosen undead meets the daughter of sunlight gwynevere who tells the player of their fate to succeed the old lord gwyn and link the first flame to cast away the dark and the undead curse and are given the lord vessel allowing the player to warp between special bonfires. Returning to firelink shrine they meet frampt who tells them that in order to link the flame they will need the spuls of four special beings, the Witch of Izalith found deep below blighttown, Nito first of the dead found beyond the catacombs in the tomb of the giants, the four kings of new londo who fell to the abyss who were gifted a fine shard of lord gey s soul, and seath the scaleless dragon who betrayed his own kind and was gifted the grand archives of anor londo. The player takes them on in any order if their choosing and in the process stamp out the flame of chaos, drain the city of new londo freeing the dark wraiths once trapped, steal the rite of kindling from the catacombs from a necromancer pinwheel on their way to the tomb of the giants and destroys the primordial crystal an ancient artifact of the immortal dragons in order to dispell seaths immortality. Upon defeating the four kings however another primordial serpent named kaath appears and tells the player that they should let the fire die and that it was gwyn who caused the curse of undeath by trying to artifically extend the age of fire. This combined with many enviromental details and optional npc encounters all lead them to question whether they are even doing the eight thing. Never the less the player presses forward to the kiln of the first flame. Placing the lordvessel upon the altar and filling it with the lord souls. In the kiln the player meets lord gwyn. Only just like everything else he is nothing but a hollow desperately guarding the first flame against any who would intrude. He however proves no match for the player and you are left with a choice. To Link the fire and renew the status quo in the hopes that finally rids of world of the undead curse. Or reject the fire and let the age of dark begin. Now the canon ending is linking the fire because of the sequels and there are plenty more details in the games overall story including several areas i didnt mention at all like darkroot. But since every player gets to take their own pathway through the game, meet any nocs of their choosing and doing their questlines. Each players story will always be a little different. Did you kill gwyndolin or venture back to the asylum? Or maybe you just did the whole game in a different order. If you took the master key you could run straight to quelaag if you wanted skipping the depths entirely for your journey. But the main beats of eacape asylum, learn about bells, ring bells, sens, anor londo, 4 lords, and gwyn will be shared.

16:23 I also like the mini meta narrative of the early game being this weeding out of all these hopeful “chosen ones” where it really feels like you are not the only one who’s gone on this quest and if you give up and become hallow somebody else will come across your shuffling form just looking to kill anything on sight cause it’s all it knows how to do after dying over and over again. That get’s into the big aspect of cycles which is another big part of the Soulsborne storytelling. Edit: oh shit you said exactly what I did 30 seconds after this point. Haha glad I’m not the only inexperienced who picked up on that element
