Office politics is an inevitable part of any workplace environment. It encompasses the dynamics of power, influence, and relationships among colleagues. While some may thrive in this arena, others might find it overwhelming or counterproductive. Understanding that office politics exists is crucial for navigating your professional landscape effectively. In this realm, the truth can often become subjective. Different perspectives lead to various interpretations of events, intentions, and actions. While some individuals may openly share their thoughts and motivations, others may choose to conceal their true feelings or agendas. Consequently, discerning who is being truthful and who is not can be challenging; often, only the individuals involved truly know the reality of their statements and actions.

@@EPYD You are right, its very challenging to deal with office politics. Just sharing my story : I've been quite fortunate in my years of working in various industries. I started with the hotel as a sales coordinator, supporting 3 senior sales managers. The politics there were frightening. All the sales managers & directors have their own gangs and they would openingly fight with the other teams. Many have to also suck-up to the Executive Secretary and they have to address her as 'aunty xxx" to gain her favour. However, I refused to address her aunty, its a professional workplace and she's not my aunt. Anyway, I don't believe in sucking-up to anyone to be successful. This 'Aunty xxx' would openly hug the General Manager, as if to show us how powerful she was in her position. From then on, I told myself, if I'm ever in her position, I would do it differently and help people who are genuinely there to work. I then moved on to advertising, supporting a project management team. Over a six months period, I was mis-treated by this lady Senior Account Director (having the same surname as me). She was constantly picking on me and was also treating my other colleagues with dis-respect, just because she's a Senior AD. When I was on the verge of resigning, a causasian lady Account Director got to know about it and stopped me from resigning, so she went to seek the General Manager to step in to intervene. I was later transferred to work for an Indian lady, who's the Regional Account Director, she was a very nice lady and treated me very well and we worked so well together. After 3 years, I moved to another advertising company working for a French CEO. He was later promoted to SEA CEO, then APAC CEO. I had worked with him very well for 10 years and had travelled quite a bit for managing regional conferences and workshops. The French CEO was a kind, generous and hospitable person and would always invite the Global Directors who were in SG to his black & white house for gatherings/parties. I was told that one of the Global director (NZ native) was jealous of his success and went to 'plot' against him and took his job, who then became my new boss. This NZ CEO would travel so much, every week he would fly somewhere on business class, staying at 5 stars hotels, just enjoying his life. After 2 years, he was replaced by another French gentlemen and the HQ decided to move the Regional HUB to HK. I then asked for a redundancy package and joined an IT company. When others try to snatch something that don't belong to them, they won't be able to hold on to it...
