In most museums there are some people who show you around and talk about its content Not modern art museums tho, there is nothing to talk about except how bad and indescribably expensive it is
You want another Hitler situation?
this video is infuriatingly stupid and a massive waste of time. Your entire point boils down to "modern art shouldn't get to be seen as prestigious because it's easy." So what if modern abstract pieces make a lot of money? you fail to actually prove how this has damaged modern art as a whole, a few paintings getting passed around by the ultra rich doesnt change anything about the artworks themselves, and it says absolutely nothing about the other, completely unrelated art pieces. You don't hate modern art, you hate the ultra wealthy and how they commoditize art, something you personally admit is not exclusive to modern art, i guess all classical renaissance art is also bad and meaningless because rich dipshits only see monetary value in it. God this video is so fucking pretentious and empty.
I fucking hate modern art, I know it's supposed to be symbolic but alot of old art had the same ability to be symbolic but still look good and not like what a toddler would draw at daycare (I'm not shaming people who make it or like it so I hope you don't get that impression)
Modern art makes me think of "name one thing in this picture"
26:55 the museum doesn't care about how you arrived at your final product. whether it's digital or not. as long as you don't plagiarize.
Abstract expressionism is one of the most complex and difficult styles of the 20th century...
The art world is a very fancy money laundering operation. That's the real reason for the obscene price tags on a lot of these paintings.
wrong about modern art and modernism too.
I'll say the west didn't have real art until Modern Art came along. Before, it was just art for the wealthy and art for Christian/wealthy propaganda. You can go further and say that Modern Art and Abstract art equal freedom of expression to the max! No, they aren't easy to make. In fact, the easiest thing to learn in art is learn to paint/draw and the hardest thing to do is to come up with something original.
I love the sweet spot between realism and abstraction, surrealism. By having recognizable forms molded in unrecognizable patterns, the art is anchoring you to the 'real' so the 'unreal' feels even more so in comparison.
Oh yah another fascist with no knowledge of art
back then, the art speak about the artist. Now, its other way around, imagine being a modern artist and trying to insert the meaning of your art on their scribble instead of letting the audience figures the meaning of your art
I think that there’s gonna be another revolution of art, and it’ll return to the old renaissance style, for the same reasons that the abstract art movement started
map of the syrian civil war
This is probably the worst take on modern art ever. Abstract art can.be interesting and there is nothing "aesthetically pleasing" about Pollock's vomit and modern art does represent something bad. So you are basically as wring as anyone can possibly be.
i only like my own abstract art
Number 5,16 ect. are studies. Art is weird I knew people with original Picasso pieces they bought for 200$ It was a palm tree on a round canvas. I never understand how one piece from an artist can be 200$ and the other 46 million
imagine wanting your art to always have meaning, picturesque techniques, and cost LMFAOOO
Yes, they sell for absurdly too much, I agree. But one point of view will set things in better perspective: Pollock paintings didn't earn him much in his productive era. It was only later his cultural significance was recognized and put the price tags to the works. Because modern art became the symbol of late modern era where networks of expressions and meanning turned to be rather symbolic, complex, vague, subjective, and abstract in nature in all areas of life be it science, communications, computers, business etc. And Pollock was declared as one of the pioneers who transformed the human understanding of art.
5:07 don't think anyone could do that painting.
My main problem with modern art is mainly the deconstructionism and the overemphasis on the expression of the artist. It becomes overly critical and subjective, reling on shock value and fleeting emotions. Where is the sense of beauty, harmony of coulur, and proportion? Don't get me wrong, I don't think realism is the pinacle of art, but enough of this modernist bullcrap.
i like abstract art but i hate how it’s treated, like it’s perfect and worth a billion dollars. also, abstract art should have a meaning, like an emotion. it’s just silly.
To say "I hate modern art" and let in just that is, in my opinion, ignorance. There are still realism, expressionism or other movements now a days, it has nothing to do with modern art. It has to do with people seeking excuses about new ideas. Artists are not only those who sell their work for millions or are recognized, specially nowadays. Go into the internet. There are artists doing abstract art, people with talent, that are receiving nothing. you are committing a fallacy only looking at the examples you are interested in. Also, sometimes we assume everyone can do it, and sometimes we are right, we can do it, but don't undervalue some artists who use abstract art but their meanings are not clear or are not perfect copies of reality. The expectation of realism kill art. And a lot of times a plain colour has WAY more complications of what you maybe perceived. Plus, even if you could do it, they've done and most of you didn't, the creation process and constance of Doing that for years is already something most of you cannot be bothered about. And if they are meaningless, why hate in them? If they were meaningless you would ignore them, not make a video saying how much you hate them, you would go to a classical art museum or hop into the internet looking for art you enjoy more.. Wait, this isn't about art isn't it?
Honestly I went to The Broad, LA where it was full of stuff like this and I saw one painting with just two plane shapes and I was like “why is it so special if anyone can do that”
TL;DR: Modern art like this has no effort or meaning put into it.
I am an outsider artist, my works don't have any financial value. But I like them and some of my friends too - and I happily gave my works to them. I am not rich, my friends too. But we enjoy the creative freedom. We don't need to have absurd amounts of money to buy Pollock... So: Rothko is IMHO quite awesome, but anyone with a paint and some invention can remix/recreate his works. And the rich? They are just weird. I am happy that I am not finacially rich.
Modern Art it's a tool for money laundering
I get where you're coming from, but I think a lot of people miss the point of modern art when they say "my 3-year-old could do that." It’s not just about technical skill-it's about the idea behind the piece. In contemporary art, it’s more about what the artist is trying to express, not how perfectly they can paint or draw. Art has always been about pushing boundaries. Think about artists like Duchamp, who literally made a urinal into art to challenge our ideas of what art is. The stuff that looks "easy" or "childlike" is often super intentional-like, the artist is trying to make us question things like consumerism, identity, or even the very definition of art itself. It’s less about creating something beautiful and more about creating a conversation. Plus, modern art often focuses on the process-how the work is made, what it represents, and how it engages with the world today. A lot of times, the simplicity is intentional, like in Abstract Expressionism, where the focus is on emotion or subconscious thoughts, not on making a pretty picture. you mentioned Pollock. His abstract expressionism may appear like chaotic splatters to some, but it’s an intense exploration of human emotion, action, and the subconscious. The technique is not random; it’s a way to express an emotional and psychological state that cannot be captured in traditional forms. Honestly, art today isn’t just something you look at, it’s something you experience. It’s about how it makes you think or feel. So when people say “anyone could do that,” they’re missing the deeper layers of meaning and the artist’s intent behind it. Art’s about exploring ideas, emotions, and questions, not just showing off technical skill. And that’s what makes modern art so exciting-it’s all about rethinking the world around us. As for those insanely high prices for modern art, I get why it’s hard to understand. It’s not just about how much it cost to create-it’s about the perception of the piece, the artist, and its place in art history. Art value is tied to what it represents, not just the materials used. A lot of these pieces are rare, one-of-a-kind works from artists who are considered game-changers in the art world, which automatically makes them more valuable. Take Damien Hirst or Jeff Koons for example-on the surface, some of their works might seem simple or even commercial, but they’re also a commentary on art, consumerism, and the role of the artist in today’s society. It’s about ideas and provocation. A piece from a major artist is more than just a painting; it’s part of a bigger cultural conversation. Then there’s the factor of scarcity-famous works are rare, and when they go up for auction, people go crazy to own them, whether it’s because they see them as a financial investment or because owning them is a status symbol. Art, especially from big names, has become an asset just like stocks or real estate. Some buyers are more interested in it as an investment than just a decoration for their wall. Also, let’s not forget that art auctions and galleries play a huge role in driving up prices. They market the hell out of certain works, and the more exclusive and hyped up a piece becomes, the higher the price tag. It’s kind of like a luxury brand-sometimes it’s not just about the quality of the product, but the perception of the brand behind it. I know it can feel frustrating when something that looks “easy” or “childlike” is selling for millions, but the value often lies in how it challenges perceptions, reflects cultural shifts, or simply creates a conversation. Art has always been a reflection of its time, and sometimes its worth has less to do with how it’s made and more to do with what it says about us, both now and in the future. At the end of the day, whether it’s "worth it" is up to the buyer-and the market. But as with all art, the debate over price, value, and meaning is what keeps the conversation alive. 🎨
The modern art market is 90% money laundering. That doesn't reflect on the art itself. Personally, I believe these pieces belong in a museum, with no price tag. All art (besides the ones with historical significance) is overvalued, whether or not it was hard to produce. These pieces only stand out to you because you don't like minimalist art. It's fine not to like it, but to be condemning it for being simple is missing the point
i hate modern art *shows contemporary art piece* Modern art is end of 19th century- mid 20th century, contemporary art is late 20th century to nowadays
No wonder ai takes over the art world because people are just spending their money on scams 😑
FINALLY SOMEONE SAYS IT
To make a good art you have to think and use your brain energy these artists who do modern art can’t make a real art with rules because they have to use their brains and it’s hard for them to think
Everybody's taste is different. Some people like abstract art and some don't. Everybody's point of view is valid. It's really all about what the artist's experience in creating the work was, not the work itself. If someone wants to pay a ridiculous amount of money for a piece, then that is an issue with that person and has nothing to do with the art.
It's called money laundering, not art 😂
00:00:02 *_*Angry Ivan Seal Noises*_*
True. AI art is better
Please please PLEASE paint one of those painting you dislike. Take the easiest one you think you can manage and paint it
“I don’t like….” Is not even SLIGHTLY controversial. History is FULL of people who said, “I do not like …..” during every era of art.
AI art is much worse than abstarct modern art ahaha
Just because you don't perceive something, it doesn't mean it isn't there. Also, why fixate on money so much? I thought art is the subject yet we are getting "this is too expensive" hello everything is expensive I live here and have to give 1 monthly salary just to pay rent for an 'okay' apartment, isn't that expensive? Isn't it more fair to hold finances relevant when it comes to their actual function? Money is relevant to rent because we live in a world where we exchange money for goods and services. Art is neither. I noticed the same fixation on money from internet masses, the mainstream audience of movies (netflix/blockbuster/etc.) they immediately value a film by how much it made in the box office? Is that the reason we're clapping when a film ends? because it made loads of money, it was successful in greasing the cogs of capitalism, xd. im trying to be humorous of course but there was always this divide in arts. some see it as a means of finance, others die without a penny to their name. let's not mix art and money, art is felt, money is spent.
Touching on 'whether we should even consider such abstract doodles as art' the answer is, of course, yes. It depends on who it's coming from, and how educated one is to appreciate/understand. Art evolves, even with painting, a more established art form than let's say cinema, we get the guy hanging from ropes and throwing paint on a 10m² canvas. If you find that pretentious, useless, ugly, or anything else, you are free to form and express your opinion, as art was always a good conversation starter. But let's not take it to the same extremes as some people have in the past, separating 'pure' and 'real' art from 'degenerate' 'meaningless' 'pretentious' art. that's literally what nazis did. Also, are you a painter? I believe all the internet mob that simply labels modern art as 'garbage' doesn't even care about any art form, they all consume and they find that piece 'unconsumable' it's like you try to convince your 5-year-old kid to eat broccoli and drink water instead of chicken nuggets and cola.
👁👁👉What about the invention of the camera in 1816? Did the camera not eliminate the need to meticulously illustrate reality on canvas? The purpose of abstract art is to manifest imagery that hasn't ever been seen before in the real world; and this abstract imagery can only come from a very unique and special skill set called ...( "Imagination," ) and new imagery ideas. 🧠
THEY WILL NEVER MAKE ME HATE YOU MARK ROTHKO
I think it’s really interesting hearing about this kind of opinions about modern art, I’ve found that a lot of people share the same thoughts on how “cheap” and “lazy” many of the paintings on display look. I just would really like to indulge many of the people thinking this way to investigate and learn a little about for example the time and effort Rothko puts into his canvases, it’s really hard to see it digitally but his paintings are absolutely impressive irl. Also, if I may add on the subject of pricey pieces of art, I think that is a whole topic that doesn’t necessarily correlate to abstract expressionism or any other type of art. I think a good exercise is to invest a little time into looking outside the big artists like Picasso and find that there are many other artists online that really need to be recognized more.
I like the idea of abstract art. If someone wants to use it as expression, why should I care? Measuring the worth of art solely by how much time it took is just as shallow as what you claim abstract art to be. Though, the price at which they are sold is absurd.
the real artist is the art dealer who convinces milionaires´wives to "invest" millions in this shit
someone said jackson pollocks work has fractals in it lmao
Add to all that the fact that now modern art has become a way to not pay taxes by the super wealthy
