Rainbow Trout Release July 13 2024
มุมมอง 159หลายเดือนก่อน
Here’s a super short vignette of the rainbow trout from the TRAA hatchery being released the morning of July 6, 2024, into Dingman Creek, a tributary of the Thames River. The weather was beautiful, so it was very surprising that only 5 volunteers showed up to take part. However, we had a blast and our rainbow fry made it safely to their new home.

We had a great turnout of creek-side landowners for this year’s Brown Tout Release. Nice to see so many kids who were right into getting wet and learning a little bit about their local stream!

TRAA Work Party - November 12 2023
มุมมอง 729 หลายเดือนก่อน
A bunch of TRAA volunteers came out to the trout hatchery site on a glorious fall morning to take care of some stair maintenance and tree removal/damage repairs. All of what we set out to accomplish was completed. This is a short video of some of the goings on.
Brown Trout Release - April 29 2023
มุมมอง 1.2Kปีที่แล้ว
The Thames River Anglers made a bit of an event for this year’s brown trout. We invited many landowners local to the release site to come with their families and participate. It ended up being a load of fun and was topped off by meeting a great bunch of people who all have concern for the Medway Creek environment.

TRAA Fishing Evening - July 7, 2022
มุมมอง 1452 ปีที่แล้ว
Every Thursday evening during the months of July and August, members of the Thames River Anglers Association go a-fishing on, of course, our home waters the Thames River. Each week we pick a different spot to fish in and around London, Ontario. This is a quick video of our first evening in 2022. We were amazed by this beautiful spot right in the middle of the city.

Obstruction Removal Komoka Creek Feb 19 2022
มุมมอง 1412 ปีที่แล้ว
We jumped in the 4x4's and bounced overland to the mouth of Komoka Creek to remove some trout migration obstructions. As with our last work party, temps were low but spirits were high. We made short work of it and had a blast doing it! www.anglers.org groups/4TRAA

This is a little video of the last tree we removed that was threatening the main power line for the property where we have our trout hatchery. Yup, the TRAA is still active in these strange times, and in the -22 wind chill!

Visit the London Brewing web site, www.londonbrewing.ca/ to order your "Hookset" Vienna Lager. By doing so, you support the ongoing conservation efforts of the Thames River Angers Association. Plus, it's just a darn good beer! "Hookset" is a limited edition offering so don't miss out! If it happens to be sold out, try one of the other varieties offered by London Brewing.
Ask the TRAA Ep. 2: Egg Baits and Patterns for Steelheading - the Frammus
มุมมอง 1163 ปีที่แล้ว
More and more centrepin anglers are finding success drifting flies under their floats. This variant of the Frammus fly has fooled a lot of steelhead on Ontario's west coast tributaries.
Ask the TRAA: Ep. 1 - Float Fishing Overview
มุมมอง 2553 ปีที่แล้ว
This is the first in a series of short videos that answer some of the many questions that the TRAA gets from our members and the general public. We get a lot of questions regarding steelheading this time of year, many of which are focused on "centrepin" or "float" fishing. In this first episode TRAA member Randy Bailey gives us brief overview of what centrepin fishing is about.

    Always great to see the neighbours come out and enjoy the day. I've been doing this for well over 10 years, and I take it for granted. But seeing the excitement of attendees reminds of the importance of what we (TRAA) do.

    Great job! Do you have any estimate on how many of the fry make it to adulthood?

    • @paulnoble684
      @paulnoble684 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bill Grover: Thanks! There are so many variables but it would be between 1% and 5%. Surprising, I'm sure, but this illustrates why habitat restoration is a far more effective solution than stocking.

      @@paulnoble684 Wow thats disapointingly low. Are any of the previously released fish reproducing?

    • @paulnoble684
      @paulnoble684 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@billgrover5087 Those numbers are actually better than natural reproduction, all else being equal. On another stream, with extensive habitat rehabilitation, we have a self-sustaining trout population that no longer requires any stocking.

    • @billgrover5087
      @billgrover5087 ปีที่แล้ว

      What needs to be done to rehabilitate a stream?

    • @paulnoble684
      @paulnoble684 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@billgrover5087 It's a long process that starts with landowner relationships. The actual work will depend on what the stream needs and what targets can realistically be achieved. If you're interested, want to learn more and maybe even get hands-on experience you should get involved with an organization like the TRAA.

    Where did you get those egg tweezers?

    • @thamesriveranglersassociat2422
      @thamesriveranglersassociat2422 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tanner Smith: We fabricated the loops with the wire used for spinner lures and then inserted them into the wooden tweezers. A few of the tweezers are also hand-made by TRAA members!
