Some nice animals.
I always liked Prairie Farm Report videos on cattle handling facilities for ideas
Sorry.........but when you state...... " another stream of income" It reminds me of Greg Judy.... hes got his cattle... TH-cam in come...... guard dog income.... mushroom income... timeless fence income...bull sales income.....heifer sales income... I could go on and on and on. Bottom line........ how many streams of income does a farmer need to survive ?????? Curious ??
the shirt is not flannel and I protect arms from the sun. We need to be diversified, we are at the mercy of the weather. When a drought or commodity price drops, we can be at a negative margin. I’m willing to work and if I fail that’s my responsibility.
G day from Ont Watching dogs go inpen, reminded me of our dog, he got tied up every night when 8-830 pm came around he would sit were he would be tied up & wait to be tied up routine Yes I live inhouse front of farm. Neighbour {all neighbours are horse & buggy} he get cows in on pasture too The neighbours all stocked cattle to about 1000 lbs, it seems if 1 does they all do it some fatten . Thanks
Are those combine tires on that baler?
Yes, they came off a Co-op combine
Randy i can see you both are getting something out of your friendship , it is nice to see Gav learning stuff he could use in this life many year to come , Be safe , Be well, Enjoy life .
Hey randy, Gav seems to have an answer for everything !!🤣 doing a good job👍👍
We really enjoy having him around. He is a smart boy!
yeah he did great baling, i see you have a white top 914, i didnt get to use my red top this year, hope next year has lots for it
I haven’t used mine for 10 years. It’s only costing we space.
Great video thanks for taking me along great job gav looking forward to seeing many more take care God bless PS saying hello from Utah
Thank you Utah! How is the weather?
randy , hi there , i pull the fuse on my seatbelts chime , wow the cows are doing a great job , hey there young man , great to see you helping old Randy out , the chicken school house is looking great , did you ever find out why the chickens were hiding in the tall grass ? be well be safe enjoy life ,
Hi, I never did find out what scared the chickens.
There are you tube videos to shut that seat belt chime off for dodge. First thing I did when I bought my pickup
G day Randy Boy dog is right there behind u Yes any animal will trim grass in in uneven ground Do u know Litton is that were Amish r at? Ths
The Amish moved to the USA, the Mennonite’s moved in, about to a 1/2 hour west of me.
in our region of Alberta nearly every farmer grows their limit of Pot. every man-women is allowed 8 seeds each year. we plant them others harvest them and pay us. last year we earned $5400 from the Gov. for the pot plants we planted and they took care of and harvested. just drive the rural roads and check for 8ft tall weeds growing on the south side of ditches.
I didn’t know that! I looked the rules here, 4 plants are allowed per person in Manitoba.
Hey Randy another awesome video keep em coming I was wondering are ya on Facebook too because there is someone that I messaged on there.
I’m not that active on Facebook! I check later!
Do you have stony land so you don’t want to work it up every year? In reference to your planting clover in your field
G day Randy Many yrs ago dad would put young chickens on pastuer or ranges. Something was coming so dad tied dog up out there, if dog heard something starting barking & chase it away Can u think if we could control weather what irt would be like, 1 farm it would have rain , the next sun shine Ths
Randy , a bird of pray maybe , can you live trap the beaver and move it somewhere else ? be safe be well enjoy life ,
Amen
Beautiful!!
You have better luck with electric fences than I do
RANDY maybe put a metal piece on bottom of board too making it a little stronger for the ride , be safe , be well, enjoy life , i love muffins
Thank you, I was thinking to put a channel iron! Plywood is replaceable and easy to work with.
G day from Ont. Boy the manure business, Northern farmer has always alot of manure too. I watched video, rd baler burning, commentors said no chain for ground, never heard that before, a combine operator replied back to me not as much dust on windshield???? We alot of horse & buggy neighbours & 1 fellow told me they told him he does need fertilizer for fields because he puts that much manure on ??? Ths How old is Willie, he seems to be a little easier going.
I heard of the chain, my neighbor has a chain hooked on his combine touching the ground, this helps keep static electricity low. Willie will be 6 in December. He is more controllable.

Was about to say, you need to go the the doctor. Lol
Yup I’ve had a few of those days
RANDY what a very interesting video , as they say , a farmer work is never done and just when you think you have seen it all , just wait 24 hrs , have a great day , be well ,be safe , enjoy life ,
At 16:54 Heat the shaft cherry red....... in the mean time keep the bolt end in a bucket of water.... Heat.......cool......... heat cool at least three times. While the shaft is still cherry read......the bold should come right out with a vise crips tightly on it !
Looks like your luck is as good as mine
how come your boy isn't with u, u know watching,..... learning or is his summer break video game season. we me and twin brother were with dad or grandfather all the time we were not allowed or even owned any video games and tv was set at 7 hour per week. so we learned and asked to many questions.
Gav is a son of our friend’s. He lives in the city, he has been busy with his family and camps. He is a smart boy. He has plans to come out in two weeks.
Good morning Randy I have had those days days too. I started a hobby grain farm in the spring, and have had quite a few of these! I think you and I are not alone in having bad days on the farm. Have you had any strategies that help this? For me, I think fatigue is a real issue. When I am fatigued is when a lot of these happen and sometimes get worse. When I work for weeks on end, I find my productivity goes down, and I find I make mistakes that cost a lot of time and money. A strategy I want to try is to take 1 day a week off from farm work. I plan to use this day to catch up on personal tasks and needs that get neglected when I am busy on the farm, such as laundry, groceries, meals, and a bit of relaxing. To me, this is a bit of a vacation to cool off, and collect my thoughts, catch up, and get prepared for the few days I havent tested this idea yet. Sometimes pur best plans are just plans. There are a lot of unforseen risks in Agriculture! Maybe we can change are expecatations, and analyze our approach to see if we can do things different and/or better Farming is not easy! No matter what people say. I was a non farmer until this year, and now I understand how it can be. Maybe we can borrow ideas from other producers to make our lives easier. If anyone else has a ideas or comments, please feel free to leave a comment
Sometimes are not easy. I take Sunday for a day of rest, chores are still to be done, maybe baling happens, pending on the weather. It’s good to get the mind on other good things.
Yep.
Gd day from Ont. I slept this afternoon 12-00am now can't sleep I didn't interrupt that from cows Yea I thought to backing up would work Alot of neighbours weld sockets Ths. Yes some days don't go the way they should
wow, that was a crappy day or so.
If you like real ag, check out Sask Ag Today. Therr is 940 (Yorkton) and 620 (Regina) they do a half hpur episode every week day. Very interesting informational show and current events
Farm till you die. Thats what my dad always said..🚀🚀🚀
I've got a Rebel 5410 and need to replace the haysaver wheels. I've removed the center bolt and the set screws from the inner and outer bearings. Still can't get the assembly off the shaft. Can you help?
Can you get a puller on it! Also can you heat it!
Are the bearings need replacing on the hay saver wheels? I’ve only needed to replace the rubber fingers, the outer part only! If there is a locking collar on it, there will be another hole 1/4 away from the set screw. Take a punch and try to move the collar counterclockwise.
I hope there continues to be a future for smaller farms. Keep up the good work.
I think there is a place for small farms, it doesn’t hurt to have a side hustle or anther stream of income.
I listen to 680 from time to time, we farm across the border from piney mb
I’m straight north of Greenbush, west side of the bog. North of the Roseau River Wildlife Refuge, Cell 2.
No kidding, i hay on the east side of the refuge. I grew up and farm around pinecreek.
Glad you got the hay baled
G day Randy Boy when u go out with 4 wheeler, do dogs jump o or do u call them. Nice of them going along Yes puttig in dry hay, ??? But it can be wrapped on, yrs ago u didn't Ths
good job Randy , we need more rain here in Kansas , i was reading about how we are changing crops , For the first time in history, Kansas will be planting more corn and soybeans than wheat. dryland crops are doing great , Who wants to plant 40-bushel wheat when you can get 150-bushel corn? but you must change or die as a farmer , be safe be well enjoy life ,
What part of Kansas are you in? I farm in central Kansas and we’re in a severe drought!!!
Hey randy, been a struggle for about 2 weeks here same as yourselves, hot and extremely humid. We did a lot of silage chopping, only thing we could do with the crop we had. Did some pasture paddocks for dry hay and it took forever to dry.
Why do you leave the bales in the field for so long that it kills the grass?
Goal is to keep making hay on the other fields. Moving the bales is not a priority. Bales get moved when there is time or a rain day. As long as the cut hay gets baled.
I will continue watching. It’s been drier in the Interlake here but high humidity and saturated ground takes a long time to dry
G day The Canadian-American border That swamp grass os like reeds, cattle didn't like that as well if I remember right! Yes most expensive machinery, if weather doesn;t co=operate nothing Thanks
The reeds and swamp grass is not a good grazing grass for cattle. When it starts growing in April, cattle get some nutrition out of it. I cut and bale it for bedding, if it’s not wet.
good job telling everyone about how you farm there , i never say we have to much rain , water is life so as i seen in a movie ,, let it rain , the earth knows what is needed so i just sit back and enjoy the ride , be well be safe enjoy life ,
Do you recommend a certain twine?
I use 40000 ft plastic.
great joke ,,, well done friends , be well, be safe, enjoy life
Hey Randy, good year to make silage! Been very slow here with the high humidity and smoke. May as well silage all you can so as to ensure quality feed.
Made some dry hay, the rain is producing hay, but challenging to put up.
the stars align, rain just in time
You told your story backwards. The fact you have to plant soon is the first line of the story, and that is driving a deadline (Tension!) - when it could have taken 15 minutes two months ago! Good story though. :)
