Recorded on 7 June, 2024 in Trinity Laban during my Final Recital for the Masters in Music Degree.
J.S. Bach's (1685-1750) title of Well-Tempered Clavier refers to the new system of tuning keyboard instruments that had been developed by the German organist Andreas Werckmeister (1645-1706). It was made to make it possible to play in all 24 major and minor keys, something which hitherto had been impossible with "mean-tone" tuning.
The key of B minor has a religious and biblical feature to it in Bach's music, for example the B minor mass (BWV 232). This is the last Prelude and Fugue in the set of 48. The prelude has an expressive feel to it, filled with syncopations and suspensions. The Prelude is like a 2-part inventions, while the fugue has 3 voices.
