$40 Table or Countertop!? [DIY Custom Tabletop]
For a few years now. Building a rod building table has been on my to do list. Since it is going to be in a area in the house it can be seen. I want it to look good! After looking at many premade countertops and seeing ridiculous prices. I decided that was not going to happen. I was not spending $400 dollars on a tabletop to build rods on! After all it was going to get drops of epoxy and tip top glue everywhere over time. After a few years of use. I could just refinish it anyway.
After some thought and a trip to Lowe’s. I decided I was going to just use the cheapest thing I could find. What that turned out to be was just a couple 2”x6”x10’ SPF framing boards. I did spend a little time and pick out the best boards of the bunch. Even though there were a few knots. That was nothing some wood putty couldn’t remedy.
I don’t have an elaborate wood working shop. Just a table saw, miter saw, and some clamps. I ran the 2x6 boards through my table saw to clean up the edges. Then glued and clamped them all together. After everything dried I pulled it outside and sanded everything nice and smooth. Now came the hard part. Deciding how to finish it!
I did multiple tests to try and figure out the very best route to go. I tried tongue oil, two types of wipe on poly, mineral oil, and a mix I have used for years. I was very surprised to find that there really wasn’t a huge difference in all of them. In the end I thought my mix looked the best, but it wasn’t enough. It just didn’t have enough character. I wanted something more. So I whipped out my torch and took it to yet another test piece of wood. After I applied my mix and let it dry. I was surprisingly satisfied with the outcome. Character with a nice light finish. In my opinion. It looked better than any $400 dollar counter or table top I have seen!

A few years back I started building my own fishing rods. Since then I have been wanting to build a table dedicated for building rods. I keep putting it off due to my lack of free time. Boat Top On a 68 Ford?! [[Old Red Part 5]]

My old 68 F100 has been a project of mine for over 15 years. It has sat idle in multiple locations for years off and on. Now I am kicking myself in the rear. This old 68 F-100 is proving to be a challenge to get back together. On this one I am just trying to keep my head above water. The challenge seems daunting. Thankfully it’s a 68. Therefore the wiring in minimal. Af...

I have a pitman strap coming loose from the knife bar head. Is there a way to fix this issue. I replaced the strap with a eBay, took it to a metal repair shop, made the adjustment my self was a little better. I used hose clamps tighten on it that helped more with belt super loose. Tighten the belt some and back to the same problem.

Have had many failures of the large o ring. Bought several cut offs and replaced o rings several more times, always the large one. Will hold for 3 or 4 weeks then slow leak. Fixed it though, replaced tank with a tank made for 8n or 8oo. It has a side mount for the sediment bowl type shut off. Works great and if ever need to change no disassembly required.

Man I just want to say, I went down this rabbit hole with you yesterday and watched all 20 vids. Bro, you did a hell of a job. I know everything didn’t turn out like you wanted but that’s building anything in general. I truly wish we were buds cause I can tell the kind of person you are. But anyway I really enjoyed the series. I hope you got the motor straightened out and I truly appreciate your candor and thoroughness in these vids. I didn’t know it was going to take me 5-6 hours to watch them all but I couldn’t stop watching. I’m about to get one of these boats on trade for a deck job and I learned so much from your vids. Seriously grateful you took the time to make these. You’re a hell of a good content creator. Just the way you went thru step by step. Your sense of humor about things as they come up. Your approach to the task. All of it. As a builder of many things myself. I truly value the work you did. Thanks man! 10 stars. lol

If you plow from the middle every year you will have a high middle because your throwing the dirt to the middle and the youll have lower outer edges Not a low spot or a dich as you call in the middle.

I wonder what putting in some "Heat source" of some kind under the hull and drive that moisture out. High enough to drive the water to vaporize over time but not enough to do any damage.

I know nothing about tractors and even less about farming/plowing/discing/harrowing, ...... but I am a very good mechanic. I purchase a tired but unmolested 1954 NAA (Jubilee identical). I have two acres I want to take care of and plant a garden here in the southwest. I'm fixing up the "Jubilee" (its easier to call it that as then everyone out here knows what it is even though technically its a NAA) and have fixed the the hydraulics and running. It has "draft control". Does the 8N? Does draft control really works so you don't have to have your hand as you demonstrated so well for when the tractor bogs down? ANY advice would be helpful as I know nothing. Which implement should I try to purchase first? Why? My land has never been plowed. It was an avocado orchard for 100 years and now it is just land. It is pretty hard and doesn't look like all that beautiful soil you guys have with that deep brown color. I just can't imagine a blow like yours would cut into my soil. Do I plow first or disc first? Again, anything would help. Thank you.

They sell pistons that can go directly into the block without sleeves, your probably not going to run it enough to wear them out again, we don't run them for ten hours a day like old timers did, they are hobby tractors for most of us, mine has got 130hrs in the last 12 years, stay strong guys

Okay, Brother! Get OVER the transport position (or fighting it!). When you are prepared to move your 580B to the next digging position - Center the Backhoe. The Boom lever - next to the righthand outrigger needs to be pulled back right and up to when the boom is almost to the top...then force the lever forward... the boom will lock into position. It took me 50 passes to figure that thing out... now - LOCKED before I move EVERY TIME. It just takes practice and once you get it... you will snicker to yourself!
