I cannot put into words the sheer thrill, collective joy, and utter emotion that went into this piece. My dear friend and award-winning violinist Samuel Vargas approached me one day to discuss an idea of a medley for his Foundation's 4th Anniversary Gala Concert. He began to describe a mesmerizing idea of a truly interactive performance, with performers moving all across the venue, and styles c...

This was the result of two cycles of grueling rhythm work, and intense concentration. We (ASYO) performed the entirety of the Rite of Spring to finish out our season. It could not have been a better finale. This was my last ever youth orchestra concert, and I've treasured every second I've been able to spend with these unbelievably hard working musicians, brilliant people, and closest friends. ...

Very good!!! Listened to this and it was very nice. Great performance!!!
Thank you!!
The fast attack on the up stroke almost like a colle transformed the sound and character immediately, amazing! I too couldn’t understand why some passages had good intonation and others went ropey. And he’s so right about transmitting the energy and character of the music, I think as string players we focus so much on technique that we can sometimes loose the wood for the trees.
Absolutely, technique and musical instincts are indeed one interconnected system!! His advice was extremely helpful 🙏
Lovely! You made the concerto look effortless and you nailed every note of the cadenza so beautifully! Great job! I'm practicising.... G Ire (adult student)
Thanks so much, so glad you enjoyed it!! Best of luck with all your progress!
Great work Sam! Currently watching this while doing cardio
Good piece to do cardio to 😂😂 glad you’re enjoying it
nice 😎
coming back to this now is wild, i dont know how we did this but damn is it impressive
It sure is!
IKR My goal is to get into a professional orchestra and experience this again

The Rite of Spring isn’t about perfection, it’s about energy, and this performance absolutely has that. The percussion sounds massive and the environment you’re playing in adds to the colossal sound of the piece. This achieves the primal quality of Stravinsky’s score better than a lot of professional orchestras. Well done
I couldn’t have said it better myself, thank you so much for your kind words 🙏 that’s definitely what we as an orchestra strived for.
Yooo I loved your cover of The Rite!!
@@GavLikesOpera Agreed! @JoeParrish Your cover of this piece is BEYOND awesome. You must have put SO much hard work into it.
@@samvaillancourtmusic Thank you both very much!

Mr. Lin is an inspirational teacher and world class performer, but doesn't necessarily go over fundamental technique. I'm speaking from experience because I've had a few lessons from him before, but I'm also not trying to bash his teaching style. It's great for students that are already great. Unfortunately, for a lot of great performers they can't explain how to sound great, because they have always sounded great for the majority of their lives. It's like trying to explain how to breathe to someone.
I totally understand what you mean, he’s unbelievably amazing for those who already have a solid foundation….. I’ll be forever grateful for his advice.
This is a masterclass. Technicalities are for private lessons and practice
Groovy
