Just got one thanks for the info
@@allenvinson Reach out any time if you want to talk, Allen. If you message me on Facebook, I'll send you my cell.
Before I pulled the trigger on a saw mill, I seen the same thing in Norwood as you pointed out. A good middle of the road sawmill that is upgradeable and a decent " get in price". with versability to do what ever you want. It is vastly reassuring to have someone , (you Bill), that seen the same thing...Thank You
I learn so much from your videos. Keep up the good work!
Great video. Good info. Thanks and subscribed
William i think you absolutley nailed this video i was literally wanting to ask you alot of these very same questions for that you knocked it out of the park i still have plenty more questions as a new owner of a HD38 Fully hydraulic mill with the intellset system and i have only milled 6 slabs out of 30 inch oak just to get the ice broke with using it. Im right with you on the feelings of not trying to get rich just make me happy and hopefully some customer's as well. 10/10 well done sir
Just curious - what is the gauge of the legs? Any chance you could give me rough dimensions of the leg and bolt? I've ordered a HD36V2 (thank you for the detailed videos) - I have a metal shop and was thinking of making my own custom feet to hold the mill instead of buying their kit
I’m 30 and working towards quitting my desk job. Great tips on small business pitfalls. Also, happy that norwood takes care of influencers. My experience has been slightly different- Nice folks but all of my support tickets with their Techs were disappointing. Complain about wavy cuts? “Well it is rough sawn lumber” Issues with your roller guides? “Well I can’t see it so it’s hard to tell” This isn’t to poo poo Norwood (my mill works fine) rather to give a non-influencers perspective since they won’t let you post negative feedback on their FB community. When I scale up 🤞 I’ll be upgrading to a Woodmizer.. like you said there’s levels to this depending on your budget. Norwood > Woodland Mills but Woodmizer > Norwood as a professional tool
@Hunter-cl6bw ill give you a small piece of advice. You have a "desk job" (as outlined by you). You should learn to listen to people that know more about these things than you. I mill miles more lumber than you do. If I say something is a fact, learn to listen. I hope you will be successful in whatever you do, bit I wouldn't have been if I didn't listen to the people that came before me. Me saying that "Norwood has been great and taken care of me" is not up for debate. It is a fact.
I have a pretty clean 272 here and I've never took it out to cut with. I always take my 61 with the 268 top end ya gave me.
I’m milling on a much smaller scale right now, but I thought the Hd36v2 and have been really happy with it for the same reasons. They’ve been really great and the mill has been nothing but a workhorse for me
I don't understand why you won't listen to me! I told you not to leave that head down there when you did!!! Maybe next time you'll listen.
@@TheMakersMarkTSF Yell louder!😁🤠🤣🤣🤣🤣. Talk about a rookie mistake. I'm a simpleton.
Especially if you have mushroom mycelium on log.
Thank you for posting this. Nice saw, good job. Black oak doesn’t hold up well in the weather-it’s a type of red oak. You might want to oil or char the trailer planks.
@MichaelEgan-z7s this customer asked for it. Their trailers are far more likely to get destroyed by D8's than rott. But, thanks for the input. I realize black oak is a red oak. I've rebuilt countless trailers and truck beds with it. I haven't had one rott out yet.
BTW very nice addition to the mill, the hydraulics. I would definately make that investment.
Hi Bill (or do you prefer William?) My name is also Bill (or William) I heard you talking about your hydraulics and the way you talk with the way they are set up seems backwards, out for in, in for out, up for down, down for up. I'd be going the wrong way also. Now you can get used to it, but if you reverse the hoses at the control valve at each lever, it will change the funtion to match the lever. out for out, in for in, etc. IF you have enough hose to do this. Just a thought!! Have a great day and I enjoy your video''s!!
Usually people who talk about things like you just did are the ones actually thinking about it and talking about it like you did is the stupidest thing ever. You give people ideas just like the news channel s fan the flames take this pulse down idiot
Another great video!
I noticed it as well, (blade pushing off the roller) with the Stelli cut blade. But that was on colds start up. I am going to install a brush under the exit side cover in a attempt to knock down or reduce the saw dust from traveling around the blade cover. Im suprised at times how much gets to the entry side of the cover. The thing I noticed with the operator station of the hydraulics, Is that they are mounted kinda low. (Us Old folks don't kneel well). If Norwood could have a pivoting station, (or remote controlled), so you can see either side of the log and raised up so one can stand and move around and get away from the engine noise and exhaust fumes. keep up the good work
I think it should have quick connects for all of the hydraulic lines also. It would be so nice to haul it without the worry of the lines catching on anything and i also dont care for the log turner piston is exposed when in the down position it can be demaged more easily when exposed that way I also feel like one more set of manual log dogs would be beneficial you have set yours up kinda like i have done except im working over the end over the axel instead for the hydralic motor end
Bill, I'm glad you're figuring the hydraulics out. You looked smooth. I was worried when you said you were struggling turning the logs. Glad you figured out using your old backstops with rollers to turn. Yeah get those bearings on those backstops. My log loader deck is 2 giant oak sawhorses. Scoop them up with the forks then scoop the dust up when needed. Work flow is always an on going experiment. Strange about the band losing contact with the roller guide. I agree about the the stellite bands. Great review.
@@BigelowWoodcraft thanks, Biggs.
Nice explanation and layout. Very informative. Did you forget to turn your mic on? That happens to me at times. Otherwise that oak looks great. Great job
What fuel / oil ratio are you running?
@@aktrapper6126 I run 40:1 Red Armor with high test gas.
A little trouble hearing you speak over the sound of the mill this time, but seeing you measure and mark off the end of the log more than made up for it. Very informative.
@@SuperBonefinger I didn't turn my mic on🙄
your saw head shacks too in the upper elevations....have you found a solution other than SLOW was down. kinda un-nerving when it does it.
@@imenriched it's because I was running a marginal band. I was trying to mitigate the damage.
@@williamprophett9148 well Ive had that happen with new Stell cut
Where's your intro you and Kate made? xoxo
@ShesInHerElement can't wait for her. This isn't a "spa day."
There is that big one you mentioned. I'm glad to see you were able to use your hydraulics using the original backstops. Too bad about the metal...ugh. I find old steel (nails) in oak is usually pretty rusted and doesn't cause too much damage. I can usually get the blades back. Great informative video.
@BigelowWoodcraft Thank you, Biggs. It was a far better day than the last one.
I really enjoy hearing you talk about measurements and why you are cutting a log a certain way. Much more informative than other channels.
Thank you, brother.
Thanks for the video!
@@ryanhansen8312 you're welcome, Ryan. Reach out if you have questions.
thanks for the info
Lets see you roll it over with the clamp next.
@kellywood2032 in part 1 I definitely needed to use the clamp. I'm getting better. This log was a bit of an anomaly because it certainly exceeded all of your maximum recommendations for the mill. I'm back milling tomorrow and we'll see😉
I like it!
You got to be careful on the portables when you take the set bolt loose the jack will fall all the way down and sheer off the greese zirk should have a little stop to keep it from hitting the grease fitting
Make sure your saw carriage clears those jacks. Especially sawing the last 3" & under off bunk
@@imenriched my carriage can't get to where they are on the bed. That's why I put them on the end of the mill....
Love seeing the gloves being put through the wringer. Thanks, Bill!

much better dexterity. I'm curious on how much the log turner chews up the sawn edges and faces?
@imenriched ill actually adress that. It was MUCH less than I thought. It's hardly noticeable in this Spruce.
Glad to see it up and running. It is going to be a very capable mill. You'll have that learning curve flattened out in no time. Great work.
I like it. Great job.
You got that together quickly. Well done. That will make life on the sawmill much easier. Enjoy.
