When a “jazz” Musician Gets Offered A “Pop” Gig!
Everyone plays with that sound since the Whitney song. 😂
Amazing
Good video man! Nice playing… 👏
@@paulhazel thanks so very much!
Man, I take my hat off to you. Your talent really shows the versatility of this piece! I have had the custom dark on my Selmer Reference 54 for a couple of years and love it. Purchasing one for my first tenor was therefore a bit of a no brainer for me this week.
Man, I really appreciate that ❤. I regularly play on a DV because most of my gigs are pop and rock blues stuff
Your playing is fantastic. Thanks for putting up the video.
Thank you kindly!
Hola qué boquilla me recomiendas para tocar música clásica necesito
Wow, people typically use Selmer C*. I’m not the best to ask
Have you tried a vintage jumbo java? Id be interested to know of any differences between the old and new ones
I would love to try that! I have not yet though
I had a T97 in blue. Regret selling it. Longer facing so you could go with a stiffer reed. I have a t95 now, getting back into it. Usually 2.5 Royals but I put a 2 on it and it screams and whispers. I like how when playing it softly it doesn't lose its core sound.
Boquilla T45 jumbo java es mas brillante que la T75 jumbo java?
I imagine it would be a bit brighter. I switched over to Jodyjazz DV.
Great player, great demo!
Thanks so very much!
@@bluessax5089 of course! Do you remember by any chance what reed you were using on this piece in the video?
Looks Interesting!
They both pack a wallop!!
“Reading the Da Vinci code or studying the Da Vinci code and something about the environment and natural law somethin’ like that” Hahahaha My man
Great review! You have a great knowledge of the roots of tenor sound!!!!!
Man, you’re far too kind. I appreciate that big-time.
👏👏👏👏
Not really. Technically it is mostly correct but I am not digging it. You also don't have the intensity that SRV did- very few did. Can you do a passable version of the song- yeah. Can you "Hang?" Not on your best day. No worries, I play SRV all the time on guitar and I don't hang with him either. Even John Mayer said...he CAN hang with SRV tunes...for about 10 seconds then his fingers quit.
Honestly...it ALL sounds good to me...
Thanks so much!
You are terrific. Thanks!
You are too kind 🙏🏽
Sounds like he’s letting air out of a balloon
This dude for real??
Nice video, thanks for sharing!
My pressure! 🙏🏽
I love playing with Stevie. I knew Lani Mack’s lil brother through my dad. Jammed with them. Nice
That is amazing! Yeah Stevie Ray Vaughan is a mighty one!!
I like T75 which delivers a combination of dark and bright sounds; very balanced. T95 is always dark for some reason. What reed do you use in this video? Good video :-))
They aren’t very consistent but I still roll with Jazz select 4 soft. Maybe I was on 3 med in this video. Thanks so very much. I agree.
Good review. Your own mouthpiece sounds WAY BETTER!!!!
Man, I really really appreciate that! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I want to hear you do this alone with out SRV over the top of you.
That is actually a very good idea 👍🏽
Hey man need something for symph... Love the STM but too nice.... Need attitude.... You know what I'm saying... Had myself a select jazz and screwed up and wrecked it (I think that they're a bit soft) the 95.... Cool daddy'O let's get that sound out there... B-)
Symph? Like symphonic orchestra? I always just played a Selmer C*. I have been mainly playing jumbo Java and Syos. The Syos can have more attitude, the thing I like about that mouthpiece is it pretty much projects whatever you put in
....probably more like concert band.... But we rock... B-)
@@patrickkelcey2435 you might like a high baffle mouthpiece by Syos
Wow that was incredible!!!
Greetings from Turkey. Thank you for your wonderful demo of Jody jazz hard rubber tenor sax mouthpiece. They are really easy to blow and has a good tone. Your playing saxophone is very nice. Congratulations.
Thank you so very much for your kind remarks. I hope you enjoy.
This is fire, brings smile at my face for sure
What reed are you using on them. Enjoy your ability to draw on different styles. I had them when they first came out in a green ebonite. And Vandoren is bringing that color out again.
Thank you for your excellent demo of Jody Jazz DV mouthpiece for tenor sax. Could you please tell what number the mouthpiece is?
My pleasure! It’s a 7*. Pretty expensive mouthpiece but gets a great sound. I eventually ended up going with Syos Where I could get something similar but at a cheaper cost
LOVE THIS.
Awesome playing! So versatile!! I look forward to checking out your other vids. I play a t45 an old blue one and it plays really easy with lots of power .great stuff you are putting out!
I appreciate that Bigtime!! I try to offer my sincere unique perspective 😄🫡.
Great review, sir! I loved the honest feedback
Thanks so very much! I skipped around a bit after this video. I actually played the giant for 5 months, switched back to Jodyjazz HR then Vandoren Jumbo Java and now I’m with Syos. The cool thing with Syos is you can make any mouthpiece you like
Hello, i've really enjoyed listening you in various styles :) Would you recommend t45 to someone who is switching from alto to tenor? (playing alto for about 3 years on a size 7 theo wanne piece). I am looking for a cheap, reliable and versatile mouthpiece but i guess 75 and 95 would be too open for me. Thank you
t45 would be similar to like a size 5 mouthpiece for tenor. I would recommend the T 75 and may be going with like a size 2 1/2 reed maybe? T45 could be cool too so don’t let me deter you.
@@bluessax5089 Thank you so much, i guess it is always better to try out in a local store to find out 👍🏻
i am planning on switching to dv also and I currently use a classical mouthpiece, do you think I will have trouble playing the dv? also do music center of hawaii have these in stock usually?
They actually done keep those in stock. If switching from classical I would HIGHLY recommend the JodyJazz Hr! 🙌🏽💯. I played that for 6 years. Hawaii music center should have several of those
This is an EXCELLENT review!! Thank you! You've got an amazing sound by the way :) I'm trying to decide whether to get the DV NY or the DV CHI at the moment
I really appreciate that 🙏🏽 Jody let me hold on to a couple but I had to give them back. All of his mouthpieces sound fantastic! I played the JodyJazz HR for 5 yrs and the Giant
Nice playing!
Thanks so much!
As a fellow-sax player & Stevie Ray Vaughn, thanks! I have jammed along with SRV's songs on my sax but never thought matching note-for-note. Very cool! (If you get a chance, I would love hear what you would do with Tin Pan Alley)! 😎
Hey, thanks so very much my friend! Yeah, I love me some blues!! I looked on your channel and didn’t find the Tin Pan Alley. I really dig the Xmas song though!! ✊🏽
@@bluessax5089 I think he meant that u should do Tin Pan Alley (which I would also love to see!!). great work man
You do know there is a swing version of the Stars & Stripes, right? As I said in my first comment, you sound awesome!
I believe I’ve played the swing version once or twice in the Navy big band several years back! Man, I really appreciate it big Bro ✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽
Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes . You're simply amazing.
Thank you thank you!! I really appreciate that!
Hey man, is the teeth guard that comes with the jody jazz mouthpieces removable? Or should you apply your own guard on top of it?
It is actually part of a mouthpiece. You can probably put another one on top of it though
The GIANT!
A really fun mouthpiece!
Growling but paying attention to the vocal pitch - love it. You have your own thing going!
I really appreciate the compliment. I need to get off my lazy butt and make more videos. I do work every day at getting my sound together
How is this not multiphonics? It's exactly the same concept. th-cam.com/video/OEXCBYuInnQ/w-d-xo.html Perfect example of multiphonics.
I can see that. I just wanted to distinguish the difference between singing into the horn and playing a false fingering
This guy is cool with a double cool!
Love me some SRV!! Playin da blues!!
One of the best reviews I’ve ever seen on TH-cam. So many examples that show the true reflection of the piece . Thank you
Thank you so much! That is one of the things I always hope to see when seeing a mouthpiece review. Not everybody plays just jazz. People want mouthpieces for so many other types of music. I need to get off my butt and do more videos
Sage advice from beginning to end! Your sound … is like Illinois Jacquet, BB King, Jimmy Hendrix, and King Curtis rolled into one. All I can say is more, please … more!
Man, thanks so much for watching! I feel of the horse but I’m getting back in the saddle
yes!
You've got that mouthpiece down.
I recently just switched to a Syos 😄
The Giant wins
Aw shucks! I played the giant for about eight months after this video then I switched over to the jumbo Java t75. I did a video on that as well. I generally play with a lot of loud guitarists, and drummers so I needed a freaking mouth cannon!
I like your sound on the giant... its more focus and rounder.
The T 95 was the mouthpiece adopted by Bob Wilber as his favourite for playing on his vintage Conn Tenor and by Anti Sarpila his pupil but i found the aperture too wide for my embouchure .
Really?? I wasn’t aware that he played Tenor. I know him mostly for his soprano playing in the Sidney Bechet tradition. Great to hear! If you look on my channel I also have several videos paying tribute to the great Sidney Bechet
