Testing the pulling power of my CD motored HST and some others.
Thanks for this. I was asking myself if the Dapol kit could be motorised and so put in a search on You Tube. That's where I came across your video. Great stuff!
Me ha encantado su video. Soy un aficionado de España que he retomado esta aficción hace un par de años y tus técnicas me parecen super interesantes. Muchas gracias por su aporte 👍
Nice 58
Hi again Geoff, just noticed I made a typo, I meant to say 14 feet, not 24 feet, sorry,(me and my sausage fingers again) take care.
Hi Geoff, just liked and subbed, I'm in the process of building the baseboards of my next layout, been railway Modelling for over 40 years, never got it right yet, but I we live in hope,I'm torn between building an end -to-end, or a tail-chaser, the space I have is 9ft by 6ft, my previous layout was 24ft by 8ft, so hopefully, it won't be too long before something takes shape, anyway, take care, all the best from Scotland, Stephen.
Nice looking layout. 👍
HI Geoff, Very nice. One comment, but it’s probably a bit too late for this model. The sliding sash windows are upside down, as the ‘horn’ is pointing up. [The ‘horn’ is the piece of timber attached to the bottom of the upper sash - google “sliding sash window horn”]. Like the layout.
It was a free download kit , the windows are a One piece section that you print and stick to the front fascia , just looked at the download of parts and they are upside down on that , I never noticed that , too late to alter it now , oops !
Yes the buildings are great I myself on a Friday morning I am doing a course in Coppull Library showing the adults how to scratch build cardboard model buildings Bill
Nice 👍
I have built two of these also using a Lima shunter chassis to power them , I painted both of mine in the same satin green livery , wish I had thought about a blue one now !!
Great work on the station, really like the way you have utilised scenes in the background too - Mark
A trick I used on my Droxford layout where a road goes into the background and round a bend , in the real location, there's a house so I took a pic when I was in the area a while ago then printed it off .
I think it all looks good.
Thanks :-)
Coming along nicely Geoff.
Thanks :-)
FABULOUS LAYOUT!
I'm not sure I followed all that about the running issues but as long as t works for you then I suppose it's all good. I do like the controller.
What’s the height of your train platforms thx
Hi Richard , the platform height is 18 mm MDF.
Coming along nicely Geoff.
Hi. I like the idea of 'hiding' the switch panel inside a building. That gives me some ideas for my layout! Thanks for sharing. Liked and Subbed! Cheers, Andy
You have been very productfull with your time very Geoff. I've all but come to a stop as spring seems to be fully upon us and the garden calls.
Our weather is still awful so not much chance of getting garden jobs done , only managed to get the grass at the front cut as we had a couple of dry days then day after , it rained so that scuppered my plan to get the grass at the back done .
Are you going to ballast?
I will be but won't be for a while , want to thoroughly test it all before I embark on ballasting .
great video on ur plans, will be lots of work ahead look forward to seeing ur progress - subscribed and liked
Plans look good lots of work ahead, thanks for sharing
You are moving very quickly with this Geoff. I like the switch panels in the backs of buildings.
Having that week off work helped as I had more time to crack on with it . I used the buildings to hide switch panels on the old layout and it worked well so I thought why not do it again on this one and the switches for the isolating sections are in one place so using less wire and no long runs from the panel to the sections.
You're making progress Geoff. When you ran the Euro Star in I realized just how long the platforms are, they're amazing.
Progressing quite rapidly Geoff. Looking good so far.
Thanks , I've managed to get quite a bit done as I've been off work for a week , had some carried over annual leave to use up so I've had plenty of time to crack on with it .
Will check it out mate. Regards Bernie
Bench work looks pretty solid Geoff, that's the most important thing at this stage. The station is going to be a very busy place.
It's quite strudy , I've had to lean on it from time to time and it's held my weight :-)
Good Start. Look forward to the series. Regards Bernie
2nd video has been uploaded , got quite a lot done this week :-)
Look forward to seeing the new build and following your progress, subbed to follow- Mark
I wonder what it is about us model railway builders that makes us build things and then rip it all up? I'm interested in seeing this progress.
Would not know it from your accent. I lived there for 25 years but back home now. Take care Bernie
We came back over here when I was 3 in 1968 .
Just found your channel and subscribed. Wish you well for the new layout. Hi from NZ. Bernie
Hi Bernie , I was born in Australia . I've started removing bits from the old layout , mainly buildings at the moment .
Nice new stock Geoff. I like the Bachmann Thompsons. David.
just gort to find 2 more now , I'll probably find them at a swapmeet for around the same price I paid for those Two.
I had the same problem with my Eurostar, then the maths teacher in me surfaced and I realised that its all about arcs and circles! long story short, your "longest" coach is the coach with the greatest distance between bogie centres. Great video, I've just subscribed. Start watching in the new year. Dave
When I built the layout , my longest coach was a mk4 so everything was fine , when I build the new one , the Eurostar coach will be the One I'll use to mark out clearances . I've checked things on the full size plan I've done and looks OK , but I'll check again when I start on the new One. Thanks for s ubscribing and happy new year :-)
Sounds like big plans for 2024 Geoff. All the best with that and Happy New Year to you.
Looking forward to getting stuck in to a new project , happy new year :-)
Absolutely marvellous.
Well you're plugging away at it Geoff. It certainly is running smooth. I've never tried to model anything actual, the selective compression would drive me nuts, what to put in, what to leave out. I don't think I could do it. David.
A few more bargains for you from Elsecar Geoff. I didn't realize there were different liveries on the Lima class 50's. I stopped the video and went to look at mine. It's No. 50028 and it has the straight red stripes. You got that one running a treat and the coach roof is as you would say "not too bad."
My other One and my 47 have the straight red stripe. Don't think I'll be at any more swapmeets till later in the year.
NSE had an early light blue, which they changed for a darker shade in later days. Looking at your locos, you will see that they changed the arrangement of the stripes around the cabs at the same time aa the change in shade of blue. Railmatch will help you with the patching up of the blue on your loco, Fox do the nameplates.
I'll take the loco with me when I go to the model shop so I can match it up .
I think you need to source railmatch 237 for your loco.
Perhaps some graphitie will hide the number problem?
If all else fails , I might try that :-)
Happy New Year Geoff. You certainly did well at Christmas, that Merchant Navy looks wonderful. The swap meet buys were good except I don't think I would have touched that 26 with paint dabbed all over it. The 33 on the other hand was a gem as was the EMU (I think you said 4 VEP.) All the best, David.
Hi Geoff, I missed this one while I was in the UK for the month of Nov. I passed through your local station 4 times, stopping only once to get a video shot of Sir Nigel Gresley as it passed through.
blimey! and no additional weights was added to your hst? great video!
Hello Geoff , I just found your channel and I like the cut of your jib, New subscriber acquired. Crack on pal..
Interesting test. Fortunately my HST’s run smoothly but have always been intrigued by the CD motor concept. Can you tell me about your catenary? Did you build them yourself? Where did you get the dimensions from? Thanks
The single masts are Dapol , the rest are made from Balsa strips , I used the pantograph height of my Dapol pendolino (as it's a plastic one fixed in the raised position) as a guide as to how high they needed to be as that passes under the single masts with plenty of room then just measured the span for each location . They're purely cosmetic and not prototypical but looks better than nothing when I run my electrics , I've seen some 3D printed ones on ebay so might upgrade it all eventualy.
so thats the correct name for the spinny thing. got it.
Hi great video like your layout it looks awsome i like your little funfair i dont have a model railway but i love fairgrounds i build model rides thay are on the large scale some time i am going to make som Ho scale rides so i can make a theme park f so i can make a bus depot for my diecast buses
Hi Susan. I've found some on ebay that are motorised so hoping to get a couple of those and replace the card kits. I've got a preserved bus depot on one part , the inspiration came from One that used to be in Portsmouth . it might be in a very early video somewhere . many thanks for your comment :-)
Good result Geoff. Well done. I really like the N2.
Thanks , I'm running it in now, I'd been after One for a while then ended up with 2 :-)
Very helpful Geoff, Thank you.
That's been quite a project for you Geoff but you've got it done. I like the look of those pantographs.
Those pantograph really look the business . Could you please let us know where you got them from , many thanks .
