Wild double barred finches coming down to the aviaries.
I dropped some bird seed in front of the aviaries the other day. The wild, double barred finches have found it and are enjoying it.

5 from 5 silver king quails have hatched this morning. Had to take them out and away from dad. He was picking at their legs. So far, they look fine. Fingers crossed 🤞
Rip Pete the Legend

Peter my mate who passed away, helped me so much with building my aviaries. If it wasn't for him and my father, these aviaries would never have been possible.
Young crimson finches fledged
มุมมอง 1167 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
4 young crimson finches fledged. So far, these first time parent's are going strong. Hopefully, the chicks make it to fully coloured. My biggest problem has been keeping the females alive. I regularly treat for worms and cocidiosus as I'm in a tropical zone. Fingers crossed these one's keep going well.
cleaning up at the end of the breeding season.
มุมมอง 1329 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
It is getting to the end of the breeding season for most of my birds. This will give them a rest over the hot months. I will also get a bit of a break. I'm currently washing all of the nest receptacles in the dishwasher and letting them dry for a few days. After that, they get stacked in plastic tubs and stored until next season.

Update on the grass garden area.

Update on the progress of the grass garden area. Posts going in today. Hopefully this works well to keep the wallabies out and grass takes off in their pots.
New project starting today.
มุมมอง 10714 วันที่ผ่านมา
Today, I started what will end up as an area to grow seeding grasses for the finches. An area I can fence off from the wallabies getting in and eating it all. I'll post updates as i get more done. Thanks for looking.

Had Brackys Trees 🌳 in to do some tree removal before cyclone 🌀 season starts in north Queensland. These guys have been doing a fantastic job. I definitely recommend anyone in my area wanting Trees cut down to give these guys a call.
Making brackets to put on the aviary fronts
มุมมอง 123หลายเดือนก่อน
I'm making up brackets to screw on the front of my aviaries. These will protrude off the aviaries 550mm. I will then hang hail netting as a big curtain to hopefully stop the hawks from attacking the wire and scaring the birds.
White parson hatched this week.
มุมมอง 315หลายเดือนก่อน
White parsons have hatched this week in aviary number 4. There are 2 pairs of parsons in this aviary. They already have 8 young on the perch. They have bred again in one of my Bones Birds nests. Happy days.
Young parsons being moved to holding aviaries.
มุมมอง 241หลายเดือนก่อน
These young parsons are all from 1 pair, unfortunately I lost the cock bird on the second clutch half way through and the hen did a great job and finished them off on her own.
New floors in holding aviaries
มุมมอง 3192 หลายเดือนก่อน
I was sick of the old sugar cane mulch that I had on the aviary floors. The birds kept trying to build nests with it and it would drop out on to the walking areas. Now I can just roll up the fake grass and take out and wash.

Beautiful design and workmanship.
@robertfaber6796 my neighbour Luke put it together for me. He part owns Queensland Signage Solutions. They did a fantastic job on it. I love it. Cheers
Very nice. wild birds. Amazing.
Sorry, they are not wild birds. They are aviary bred. But they are pure gouldians with no mutation genes. Cheers
Stunning birds. I love black headed wild types
Thank you. Me too😊
Fantastic...
@sassyh154 thank you very much 😉
Love your aviaries! Wish I had some like them!
Thank you very much.
Looks like a big job Tony, but wow, how good will it be... Cheers for sharing...
Thank you very much. Yes it is a big job. But it cuts down on a bit more mowing, so that's a win. Cheers
Hmm, guess we need to start thinking about cyclone weather now... love the aerial view... Cheers for sharing...
Yes it is that time of year again. Cheers
What do they lay there eggs in ,I'm not sure if I have the same species of fly here in South Africa, can I use common house fly?
Hi Shane, not sure exactly what flies you guys have there. For us here in Australia we use small bush flies. These are good because their maggots don't walk out of the containers like house flies do. As for the mis they lay their eggs in. We use millrum which is bran and Pollard mix and full cream milk powder. Then a little bit of water. The flies eat sugar cubes and have a water bottle to drink from. Cheers
@bonesbirds9421 I'm gonna attempt building something similar as I breed star finches and parrot finches I just recently changed over from gouldians they get to many to quickly, hopefully I will succeed in breeding these ,I think the key is life food with these less domesticated finches ,thank you so much for the reply ,I appreciate it very much,👌
No problems at all. They also like lots of green seeding grass heads. Lebanese cucumber too. Good luck with the new species. Cheers
Never ending source of frustration for sure... you will have to let us know how it goes... Cheers for sharing...
They sure are. I will do. Cheers

Tutorial guide for breeding and keeping of this please 🙏🏼
I just love your videos. Can you please dedicate 1 tutorials videos for each species of birds you have? 1 video for stars and another for parsons and another to the other species please…there not a lot of tutorials on how to keep these birds here in TH-cam
I can do this definitely when I have some spare time. Cheers 😊
@@bonesbirds9421 thank you so much i love your set up
Amazing birds! Can you please make guide/care tutorial on these birds to how to keep, breed etc
Hi there, thanks for watching my videos. At the moment I'm busy building and have no spare time to do it for now. Cheers

Great videos… new subscriber here. Can you please make a tutorial video how to breed parson finches… how to keep them, food you feed, breeding, etc
Thank you. I think in some of my other videos I talk about what I feed. Most of my birds all get pretty muchly the same foods. Cheers 😊
@@bonesbirds9421 ok. When you make the guide can you please share what to expect from a certain bird species if they are sensitive, aggressive, shy or any other behaviours or are they easily ill etc🙏🏼
What fly is it you breed?
I breed bush flies. Their maggots don't crawl out of the containers.
That great
Thank you 😊
Hey how purchase some
Purchase some birds do you mean ? Where do u live
@@bonesbirds9421 yeah sorry. I live in New York
Australia doesn't let us export sorry
Hi Tony, love the videos. The ruddies i got off you a while ago are breeding well - i have some beautiful pied babies this season. Where do you get your hail netting from?
Awesome mate. The netting came from Netpro in Stanthorpe 10mm quad hail netting, you need.
Where abouts are you based? I’d love to have you help me do a setup one day.
Hey Dan, I'm in Townsville north Queensland
It’s a beautiful setup, I would love to have something like this setup one day…..
I'm in Queensland Australia
2:39 how do these nests work ? Like, you put a pile of twigs and strings and they make a home out of it ?
Yes,so i just put in branches not too thick. Leaving spaces to give room for the birds to nest. I just put nesting material on the ground and then the birds build their own nests. Cheers
@@bonesbirds9421 thanks for the reply. I just came across your channel and found it very interesting, love the aviaries you have. Lot to learn from you 😀
No worries at all. Thanks for checking my videos out. Cheers

Love your birds Tony....How are you going with all this rain? Thank you for taking the time to share...
Hi Sandra, Yes, no problems with the rain. Been breeding like crazy. Did have the disruption from the cyclone 🌀. I caught most of the birds out. But no damage, thankfully. Holding aviaries are bursting with young. How did you go? Thank you 😊
Precioso video, que arboles me aconsejas para mi voladero y que puedan criar en ellos?
Thank you very much. For finch outdoor aviaries I'd say clumping types of grasses with seeding heads, small bushy shrubs. Plants like that. Just do your homework and make sure that they are not poisonous to your bird's. Cheers Tony from Bones Birds
Muchas gracias Tony sigue así que lo haces muy bien crack saludos desde España @@bonesbirds9421
