I help people create edible and beautiful landscapes that are #WayBetter than Organic.
My dream is to make good food accessible to everyone, and in my opinion, the best food is delicious, nutritious, and safe. It doesn't get any better than picking fresh fruits, herbs, veggies straight off the plant where you know what went into it from start to finish.
You won't find any tomato cages here, as a matter of fact, there's a lot you won't find here... including pesticides, herbicides, fungicides or any of the other "cides". What you will find here are edible landscapes that are designed for beauty, fun, reflection and the list goes on to whatever YOU want, after all, it's your yard, your home, your taste and beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder.
Ok... you know that garden you've been thinking about? I know you're ready. I know I'm ready. So Let's dig in!

Corn Stalks For Fall Decorations From My Garden - Zero Waste
For the past several years I have bought these bundled corn stalks for fall decorations at the Farmer's Market. I knew I could make these myself and so... I did!

Thank you!
I was always scared to try because I didn't want them to taste like flour, for using too much flour while rolling. Your dough barely stuck to anything. I wonder if it was because of the roller and board you used? Give me hope.
@@sophialeticia7141 you have my permission to have hope! I definitely like my roller and board but I do use a light dusting of flour as little as possible. Good luck! You’ll do fine. Don’t be scared… it’s just a little tortilla. You can do it!
My dough seems to shrink back after each roll. My ingredients were flour, salt, and water. I let it rest in a zip lock bag on the counter for 45 minutes after kneading it. What am I doing wrong?
@@Aviator013 you did not mention baking powder… Also I only let the dough rest 15 minutes lightly covered with a kitchen towel. Additionally, dough should shrink back a little, but should get a little bigger each time you roll. Hope that helps.
I'm italian I like tortillas with frijoles
I just buy them already made they taste same to me
It’s flour dough. Corn will not roll out this way
Is it corn dough?😊
Reg pan ok
@@foreverjonsgirl sure!
Thanks for the gardening tips. It's interesting that you spread your spices through your garden and it confused the pest. I fight with aphids all the time. I wonder if mixing spices amongst my other plants might confuse and repel the pest ?
Yes if i plant herbs in and around my main crops it does confuse the pests but also look up trap crops. If you find a plant that aphids love let them congregate there and pull the whole thing out. It’s kind of a sacrificial plant.
@@NannetteBlair Thanks. I'm googling Trap crops now. I love the idea of the sacrificial plant that goes away with all the aphids on it! That's brilliant and too funny?!!
That is so cool that you grew it all in your garden !!!!
I like the detail but with about 5,000 pecans to shell, I may not finish before they spoil. There has got to be a faster way.
@@randyrackov6709 there is! I looked into a professional sheller but it was thousands of $$$.
@NannetteBlair Thanks. I have seen shell crackers but never anything to do the whole job. If you have seen one that does it all, let me know what it is called.
I think they might be a good sweet pickle.
i have a very very large pecan tree and am looking into how to harvest them
Thanks for responding 😊
No problem 😊
Can I use olive oil?
@@rositapinter1753 I’m not sure. I don’t think I would try olive oil. But if you do please write back and tell us how it goes
Good recipes
That fungus might have been corn smut. It's a delicacy eaten on tacos and tamales. It's worth about $40 per lb.
wow nice sharing
Omg such a good recipe. I always compare recipes. That's as good as it gets. 👍.
@@sandratrujillo4418 awesome!👏
Exactly what I wanted to see!! Thank you’
Can you use butter instead of crisco?
@@Kaitlyn2436 I’ve heard people say they have. I never have but maybe I should try that.
Thanks
How long did it take for the seed pods to show? I have several plants that haven't produced the seed pods yet. I live in 8a Zone.
Mine showed up after a few years but again not every plant has them only the females. Perhaps you have males only?
Was the Opuntia engelmannii?
🤦🏻♀️
They are not berries. They are seed pods.
They are not berries. They are seed pods.
I was taught by my mother-in-law how to make tortillas and many other Mexican dishes, since I grew up mostly in Europe, my daddy was in the army. There is nothing like having the first one with butter on it. Pure heaven. I have been making tortillas for 62 years and I have never been able to make them round. I mean I get pretty close, but honestly, I have no idea why I can't make round tortillas. My wonderful father-in-law, used to hold them up and say things like, oh this looks like New York, or this looks like Kansas, etc. I think I hit every state! When my grandsons (they are 36 now) show up unexpectedly, I make them up a batch each to take home along with the salsa I make especially for them. Such a warm feeling knowing you are making someone happy, that is what I feel every time I make them. ❤❤
I love this! My grandpa used to say (when I was a little girl) that mine were the shape of Texas. 😂
Well, after 6 mins we actually got to shelling....
Thank you! I have 75 stalks of corn growing and was wondering how to dry them for fall decor! Do you cut them at the base or pull them out with roots intact? Also do you remove them from your garden while they’re still green?
amazing video, both of your websites is down, where can i download all the free resources you have . thank you
Nice idea to hold seeds but where do you write the garden journal
I use a small pair of channel locks and a pocket knife. Works pretty good
I’m here because I can’t remember what we called the membrane and the internet doesn’t even seem to acknowledge the membrane exists!
You so boring 😠
Back in the 80s my parents moved to Missouri and somewhere they found a nutsheller that was powered by a rubber band. It shattered the shell and the meat came out whole without being broken. It worked on lots of different types of nuts. They no longer have it, I don't know why, but I've been looking for one like that for the last 30 years. You could shell nuts in about 10 seconds. You would putt a nut in the chamber and close the cover, then pull the hammer back and let it fly. And then open the cover, take out the meat, and the shell fragments would fall into the bottom chamber. The cover was like a piece of pipe that slid back and forth on a track. The rubber band powered Hammer was a piece of wood on the track. The hammer would fly forward and hit a metal anvil or spacer with a cone shape hitting the nut and shattering it.
It doesn't take all that to shell a pecan im 81 an grew up on farm please get your stories right 😂🎉😅
How do shell pecans?
Damn there's a lot of exposition for a 30 second shelling process
This is fantastic! I am a new permaculture designer and would love to use this if it is still available.
I’m so sorry. I don’t have any “opt in” apps right now. Let me see what I can do for you. But if you go there Canva ( it’s free) you can probably create one for yourself. Congrats! Fellow PDC!
@@NannetteBlair Thank you!!! Any template help you can give would be greatly appreciated. I am really, really bad at this sort of stuff. I need all the help I can get.
What and where do you get that tool? Can't find it anywhere.

Thank you. I collected lots of p'cons from a native pecan tree just growing alone on a local street. They are a goodly size, about first digit of adult make thumb size. Letting them air dry for about a week allows the kernel to shrink enough to be loose. They are tasty too. The shells are easy to crack with minimal damage to the kernel. I use a 10 in groove joint tool. It allows for good control and the long handles provide good leverage. I will attemp to germinate about 25 or more of them. But my research about the process is just beginning. 😊
Awesome! I learn everything through trial and error but I have many, many, many volunteer pecan trees growing up and around my existing pecan trees. It’s almost a weed here. Lol.
Also if you can get some trees of your own started you can graft a more desirable variety onto yours!
People are strange. The video helped me and was pleasant to watch.
'Thyme' is of the essence.
I have a two year asparagus plant and a 8 month asparagus plant. I can’t wait to harvest soon ❤
I made 50 tortillas the other day and I got one small taco, went back to the kitchen to have another and my kids had eaten all of sad tortillas. I wasn’t as happy as they were with the tortillas but your video is kinda letting me know what I did wrong thank you.
Lol. Sorry but it does take a little practice. I say lol because I remember making them with my grandma with a roller my grandpa made out of a broom handle. He would say in Spanish, these are shape of Texas but he would eat them and make yummy noises. I’m sure yours turned out better than mine were when I first made them. Haha!
@@NannetteBlair thank you I think I realized my mistake after watching your video. Thank you for your content.
