My name's Tess, I live in Wichita, Kansas and, in my mid-50's, I've taken up mountain biking! This channel is meant to motivate and encourage all women but especially those over 40 to get off the couch and start living an active lifestyle. I'm a videographer and filmmaker interested in telling the stories of gritty, active, older women who are trying new things, excelling at adventure and generally saying "yes" to life! I like to tell those stories and my own in a humorous way, if possible. Welcome to Gritty Biddies ICT!

Only a partial ride on the trail because much of it was overgrown and we were picking up ticks left & right. KSS is good about maintaining it, just a little behind at the moment and it's fun to get in a few laps on a relaxing, treelined trail. The Trek FX Sport 6 is a bike you just can't stay off of. I took a short 8 mile ride tonight and had a deer jump out in front of me! The GoPro was on SuperWide angle so it doesn't look as close as it was in the video. It was cool!
Trek FX Sport 6 - Bike Ride

I could ride this bike all day long. It's the perfect bike for me and Trek has really outdone itself on this one. Perfectly comfortable, cushy saddle, beautiful finish, lightweight, gears shift seamlessly, brakes are awesome, the chainring purrs. The tires are plush and grippy but also speedy when you need it. The bike feels like it floats over rocks. The only flaw this bike has are the pedals ...

Sometimes your desire to tackle a feature on a trail doesn't quite match your abilities. Such has been the case with the railroad tie at my local trail. I've been trying to get across it for a couple of months now. With perseverance, you can accomplish anything you set your mind to, so, never give up! The big takeaway for riding railroad ties is this: pedal through them! Don't stop! *My name's ...

Tall MTB Tales

When you're alone on the trail, and no one sees you bite the big one, it's perfectly fine to tell tall tales that no one can refute! Learning to mountain bike after 50 has some challenges, I'm not gonna lie; keeping a sense of humor is vital to the process and maybe the best part of the whole experience! So, my wife and I met a friend who had never been mountain biking before at the MTB mecca of Moab, Utah in September of this year! We had only been mountain biking for about 4 months, but, I was able to find a few easier trails I felt like we could handle, and we had a blast! It really just sealed the deal for me in terms of my growing love for MTB. I just turned 55 yesterday and I know I have ...

Bikers are full of righteous indignation.
nice trail, how does the the bike feel ? Is it comfortable for long distances ?
Because it has a flat bar and not drop bars, it's not going to be as comfortable for super long rides. I could easily do 25-30 miles on it but probably not much more. I'm not a long distance rider, though, so your results may vary. I end up wishing I could stretch out a little more on longer rides, but that's what my drop bar bike is for. I use this bike more for short gravel rides and city paths so I can be upright and see the scenery.
Hey there!! How do you like your FX Sport 6? Is it comfortable to ride? Or is it more performance oriented? Nice video!
I wouldn't say it's a performance oriented bike. I have a drop bar bike that's much easier to get up to speed on and ride a little faster; it's what I ride when I want to stretch out and really get some speed and extra miles. The FX Sport 6 is what I like to ride on bike paths for up to 10-15 miles when I want to stay more upright, look around and enjoy the scenery. It's very smooth shifting and comfortable to ride. I'm not sure I'd enjoy riding it over 20 miles at a time, though. It's just more comfortable to be a little more stretched out for miles over 20, imo. Thanks for watching!
Just ordered a 5. Couldn’t justify 700 more for better rims …since i don’t race. However, if I had the dough…the carbon cool factor would have caused me to spring for the 6
I hope you enjoy it! They are great bikes.
I thinking of getting the same bike. It's lighter and a flat bar. I went to a Trek dealer and they let me test several models.
this vlog makes me want to get a bike . I'm thinking of the same bike
Hope you've gotten your bike by now! Yes?
I bought mine late year and also avoided the supply chain issues. It is an amazing bike! The weather is starting to break here and I am excited to get back out there. Love your videos.
Thinking about ordering the FX sport but trying to decide on the 5 or 6. What made you decide on the 6? Thanks!
The 6 is lighter weight with carbon wheels. Enjoy it! Great bike. ❤
This was a fun watch
I've had this bike for a couple of months now in XL size. Changed out the pedals and I might change the handlebars out to something with a bit of a sweep. Wasn't sure about the 1x but I've been happy with it so far. This bike is light and well built and a joy to ride.
I'd be curious to know if you switch your handlebars out. I'm thinking the same that something with a sweep might be more comfortable. I was even considering lengthening the stem a little bit to stretch me out a little more.
I'm looking at the Ritchey Kyote line of handlebars with just 27º sweep. I'll keep you posted @@grittybiddyict3139
@@grittybiddyict3139 yes I am planning on changing the handlebars to something like the Ritchey Kyote with a 27º sweep.

How is the phone mount? I'm thinking of getting one.
Did you buy a new 2023 model? Your bike very good with those tyres. I bought an older 2018 version, for a very good price. Can't wait to receive it.
Yes, it's a 2023. I love it!
@@grittybiddyict3139 I got mine as well, been riding for 3 months. Managed to put 40mm tyres on it, and it can even go through snow here in Eastern Europe. And it's soo light! Great bike
You're super funny😂
Cool bike. What kind of speeds -- top speeds -- do you get? Thanks!
You sit a little more upright of course than a dropbar bike so you're not as aerodynamic which can reduce speed; but speed is more a function of the rider than the the bike. I'm 58 and I sit at about 16mph when I want a little more cardio workout.
Love your commentary; original.
How does this bike feel on your hands? I have a surly fat bike but my hands hurt way to much even after switching handlebars and I’m looking into a light bike.
It’s very comfortable for me but every bike feels differently to each rider. If your hands hurt you should look into how your bike actually fits you including how far forward or back your seat is and what angle it sits at. Tilted too far down and it can put more pressure on your hands.
@@grittybiddyict3139 that’s something that I’ve had to really accept and come to turns with. I’m going to trek and get fitted. Thanks for your reply. Hopefully this fit and the FX4 can make biking fun for me again.
Where did you purchase your mirror?

Nice bike!!! What is your height and size of bike?
The bike is size small and I’m 5’4”. Thanks for watching!
Where about are you cycling? Looks like Illinois
Kansas!
@StuMarstonyep! Right here near Andover, KS.
Thanks for sharing your video from rider’s perspective. I am planning to buy the 2023 Trek FX Sport 6 bicycle. How do you like the bike so far? Or is there anything that you don’t like about the bicycle? Is the saddle comfortable for long ride? Is the front wheel removable? Happy cycling!
I LOVE the bike! I can't stay off of it! The saddle is actually really comfortable... one of the most comfortable "stock" saddles I've ever found on a bike. I really like it and it's the first I've ever owned on a bike that I didn't want to replace right away. That said, it's not the one advertised for the bike on the Trek website. They can substitute parts with "like" parts at will, so, not sure actually which saddle I got. It does not have Bontrager written on the top of the saddle. Not sure what it says underneath it. The front wheel is removable. The bike floats across rocks, which really surprised me for 40mm tires. The bike is super light and the ride is really plush with the awesome tires. I don't think you could be disappointed in this bike. There's really nothing I don't like. If I had any complaint, it's that there weren't more colors to choose from. The black matte finish looks REALLY dusty after a gravel ride so keeping it clean looking is a little harder. Happy riding!
@@grittybiddyict3139 Thank you for answering my questions. I was debating whether to get the FX Sport 5 or the FX Sport 6 but what you mentioned above said enough for the bike. Yeah, I heard people weren't getting the same parts as listed on Trek's website for the FX Sport 6 due to supply shortages. I totally agreed that there's no colour choice at all. I just need to go for a test ride. Thanks again for your opinion on the bike. Looking forward to more of your videos. Keep up the good work!
@@WOKSUP604 I did get all the mechanical parts as described in the specs on the website. I was worried about getting ProMax brakes, which Trek has used during supply chain issues as an alternative to the Shimanos but I did in fact get the Shimanos. ProMax brakes actually have a recall right now. I think most of the supply issues at Trek have been resolved. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
@@grittybiddyict3139 After viewing your TH-cam video I went out to buy a Trek FX Sport 6 as well. Bike is very light! Does your bike comes with the thru axle removal tool?
Can’t decide between FX Sport 4,5 or 6?
It all depends on so many things. Budget, how much you ride, how long you want it to last, how seamless an experience you want. I chose the FX Sport 6 mainly for the higher components, better tires, carbon wheels and color. If you ride a lot, I'd bypass the 4 altogether and go with either the 5 or 6 for the higher quality components. The main difference between the 5 and 6 are the colors, carbon wheels and better tires, which are SO plush and make the bike even lighter. The 6 almost floats over rocks. It's crazy to me that the 40mm tires on the 6 are more plush than the 45mm tires I have on my Kona Libre gravel bike. Here's a comparison between the 5 and 6: 99spokes.com/compare?bikes=trek-fx-sport-5-2023,trek-fx-sport-6-2023 You can also compare all the bikes you mentioned here: www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/compare/ Good luck!
@@grittybiddyict3139 thanks. I ride a lot and will keep the bike for a long time. I’ll go with the six.
Be aware, all you Trek owners... The Promax brakes they were installing for a while due to supply chain issues with Shimano, there is a recall for certain models, including the Verve, Dual Sport, FX Sports, etc. www.kiro7.com/news/trending/recall-alert-trek-bikes-recalls-96k-promax-hydraulic-disc-brakes/FVYFNKOVCFEHXJAY4KHZXEXCLY/?fbclid=IwAR16ffGFUVhmLl2j3S_DgurmCaS0O55Z9hW-SttXHJIUAGTOABCIAogI1Yw
Great looking bike. Might need too upgrade from my Specialized Sirrus 4.0X. Picking up a Domane Sl 5 next week. Thanks for sharing
Yeah I almost fell for that component scam!
Hi! Agreed with the FX Sport 6! Are your brakes Shimanos or something else?
They are Shimano. All components were as advertised. They seem to be over the supply issues that prevented others from getting the advertised components but I had my LBS insist at ordering that the parts were Shimano. I can't stay off the bike! It's a treat!
Cool vid. Care to share a list of your accessories starting with the mirror? Then lights, phone mount, bag etc? Thanks!
