Bit of luck finding that suitable length of birch, You must have a good eye! Bit lighter than ash, but the woodworm will still like it! 😋 Great work👌
Fantastic! Really wanna do this myself. Any tips on the best kind of wood or how to measure where the curves should come in order to get the most ergonomical s-shape? // 187 cm swede :)
I just filmed this, I believe ash is the preferred wood. I did make a snath from silver birch(under guidance) no steaming as branch was sitting perfectly balanced.
So jealous of people getting to go to this fair! It looks amazing.
Where to buy this tools in indonesia?
This jig was handmade using an old English scythe as a template
There are a few Australian sellers importing commercial snaths from Europe

I have recently retired from London Underground after 46 years service, where I spent the first 25 years working on the vegetation control section sides sides. Back in the day we used scythes to clear brambles, and cut the grass on the embankments. This really kept you fit as we covered many kilometres over a few days, some of the older workers were extremely experienced and skillful. This was long before mechanical strimmers were introduced, some of the videos show the people demonstrating using far too much effort to cut the grass. You could not keep up that effort for a whole day, you have to let the blade do the work and keep it very sharp. But still very nostalgic to watch
I have picked up some GWR blades òver the years. Thank you for sharing. If your on Facebook find scything association, they would love to hear your story
Like a manual whippersnipper
Do you have lessons
I did when I started mowing 7 yrs ago. Always picking up advice and tips from the more experienced scythers.
No shortage of grass to cut this autumn, that pace looks more satisfying than the timed class 👌
Hi there! Nice to see another scything video. I bet your dog has learnt not to go too near that blade, it’s some sharp!!🙂
Bravo.............. Jbt

this is not mowing, it's not mowing like that, the important thing is to win the contest first, congratulations from super turkey, since you won the contest
I wish I were there. strong and beautiful woman and true life❤
a strong woman. I would like to have a child with him.❤
Now that's a woman!
Стойка неправильная ,долго не покосиш ,надо стоять в полуоборот мирового тогда будет косить долго и без устали

This is great - thanks for sharing. Off to find a disused wheelie bin!
Lovely job!
Very cool set up. I appreciate the simplicity. How did you set up the steam box? I couldn't tell from the fabric covering
I was just watching and filmed it. It looked like a roll of hessian backed carpet
This is competition mowing, in Europe they crouch nearly to the floor
Understood, this is not about ergonomically better, instead, in better efficiency. Like all the other sports, you sacrifice your health for better results. "No pain, no gain...."
@@tracyharrisсогласен в переводе на спорт это спринт!
@@tracyharrisу нас так не косят
Это женщина или мужчина?
I never thought it would be that quick

I filmed this at a fair, so not possible
Turn the volume up.
Where is the Green Sycthe Fair?
It's held in June at Thorney Lakes campsite in Somerset. Google Green Scythe Fair
Я рад, что люди не бросают изготовление экологического инструмента. 👍
Интересно из какого дерева изготовлен этот черенок для косы.👏🤝🔥👍🍾

hi
Does the wood need to be soaked?
No soaking required, just a good steam for over an hour I believe
@@tracyharris What is the wooden pole that's bent to a scythe's snath soaked in? Water or a chemical compound?
@jose1freddy no soaking they just steamed it for an hour in the carpet. I have seen other people use doil pipe as a steam vessel
@@tracyharris Thanks for the answers after all this time.
@@tracyharris Man, of every prop weapon I design along with masks & costumes. This next method to make a scythe will be my next challenge to learn & process since I don't have the equipment to steam & shape a wooden pole to a snath.
👍🇹🇷🌹
They did quite well. Thank you for this post.
Happy St Patrick's Day to you.

Where can I find plans for this jig?! With all these ash trees dying in Ohio, I have a pile of handles to make.
I'm not sure, I just filmed it. The members of the scythe association make have more info as a few of the members specialises in the English scythe.
that 10% adjustment for over bending is a pro tip for sure.
do you put the blade on the thick end?
martywhitevan yes
thank you
What kind of wood did you use. I am keen to make an 'Art' scyth for A show next year. I would be keen on any tips you might have.

ash tree branches. I did Use a handle from ash for holding a hoe ; it's incredibly hard & strong.
