Americans don't need a pre-arranged visa to go to the UK, and vice-versa. If you're going to work, and intend on getting into the country with a tourist stamp, then you'll be breaking the law, and risk being banned from the UK. So no, to answer your question, you don't need a visa to go to the UK. You can just jump on a place and go there to visit. But if you intend to work, do it legitimately and get a proper work permit and visa.

To everyone saying negative things about these two. The reality is they are legit students who are perusing a better life by studying in the UK. Yes there are allot of people who migrate to work illegally. These two are not those type of people. If that brings the worst out in you.. then its probably because you live in the UK and didn't take advantage of studying at school. getting a good job and earning allot of money. They will go far. Reality is allot of British born people are lazy, which is why there is a lack of desire to study, move forward in life and hatred towards people who genuinely want to further themselves and live a good financially sound life. I'm grateful to have been born in the UK, Its a blessing and i'm very lucky to be here. I studied hard and got a good job. Thats what these guys want. Lisa1996 you're probably sitting in your council flat eating a trifle and crying. Thats ok, I hope you find the time to hit a course and further yourself.
