Leigh Dovetail Jig Instructional Video (Leigh Industries, 1988)
An informational VHS tape showcasing dovetail woodworking tools from Leigh Industries in Vancouver. The tape itself was produced by Force Four Productions in 1988. Very curious about the instruments that play out the intro sequence - there's a very recognizable DX7 EPiano but the rest is unknown to me.
Upscaled to 4K for TH-cam using Lanczos4Resize and deinterlaced with QTGMC, all within StaxRip.
I do not claim to be well versed in the artform of analog media encoding, so I encourage anyone who knows better to give it a try themselves using the RF samples on the archive.org page: archive.org/details/vhs_leigh_dovetail_jig (not yet available)
Rest of description is a direct paste from archive.org page:
This archive includes the FM RF copies of the analogue format (VHS). The media was captured with two modified VTImage capture cards (CXADC) at 40MSPS for the video signal, and 10MSPS for the VHS Hi-Fi audio.
This is the original signal off of the medium before processing past initial signal tracking and pre-amplification - a raw master digital copy or medium transfer.
Capture hardware used: 2x VTImage capture cards (CXADC) sampling at 40MSPS, overclocked via github.com/namazso/cxadc-clockgen-mod
VCR & Tap setup used: Sony SLV-677HF, PB RF pin 2 on CN261 for video FM RF, CN341 pin 3 for VHS Hi-Fi FM RF
TV System & Tape Format: NTSC, VHS SP
Commands used to decode the FFV1 archive provided:
vhs-decode --debug --ntsc --threads 2 --tape_format VHS --recheck_phase --ire0_adjust
Version of decode used at the time: 9ece493
Runtime: 00:40:40:000
Audio: Yes
Included in this archive is the RF information and commands used with vhs-decode.

NordicTrack info and training tape (1991)
มุมมอง 82 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
An instructional and training video from NordicTrack about using their cross-country skiing exercise machine. This tape was mailed out for free to those who inquired about their cross-country ski exerciser. To save tape length (and probably money), the tape was recorded at EP speed. Unknown school footage watching Monty Python's Life of Brian, 1990s?

Not really sure what's going on with this tape, but this appears to be a recording at a school of some sort where students view and discuss a short film. Bring out the CRT TV on the cart! I was told I should upload this here as it counts as "found footage" which some people really like looking at. I really wish I knew more of what was going on here or possibly what school this is, but the camer...

Thanks so much for sharing. So, the full tape will end up going on Archive? If so, thanks for that as well.
That's the plan! I have a huge backlog to get to, as unfortunately uploading these giant RF captures often results in errors on archive.org. I ought to figure out how to use the command line tools for internetarchive as I have heard they are better for uploading
@@UniArchives Thanks. I can't imagine all the time this takes.
@@kengeorgejones6855 It does take quite a long time (even more so for TV tapes), so I appreciate the recognition! Always happy to put this stuff back on the map no matter how much time is spent.
This Ocean Spray commercial is so '80s that I feel like a kid again just looking at it! 😃
Jimmy Dean's food products are really delicious to eat up on. :)
This would have aired during the afternoon based on the color of the sky in the Digest animation open. I wonder why NBC didn't have an opening with a pretty sky. It was always cloudy. lol Also, Brokaw teases "Nightly News" during his sign off.
I noticed that with other NBC News Digest uploads online, the sky is always dark in some way
@@UniArchives For some odd reason they only adjusted the light for the afternoons. The morning intro's for TODAY and SUNRISE were a little lighter than the ones for NIGHTLY NEWS and the evening DIGESTS but nearly the same.
Is your PBS station, WQED? Cool. Did you know that WQED has unevil their logo. : )
This was also seen during a Toronto Maple Leafs game aired on CHCH-TV Hamilton that year.
Hey do you know what the version of the song they used here is? 🤔
I'd try Shazaming it if you haven't already, then try heading to watzatsong
Remember seeing this when I was in 1st grade
0:19 wrecked, also. First
I like the first commercial for that "Above and Beyond" jingle they used.
0:30 Y the duck is the unseen baby crying!?
Very nice!
I loved the blonde in this commercial and I wish to find out her name. I had a huge crush on her during high school.
Another great WQED video! This Pledge Break is fantastic!
For sure! While the Country Music Crossroads program itself is far from the full thing, I am glad the Pledge Break survived
Very nice! "Guiding Light" aired on KDKA and not WPXI.
Thanks for the correction! I should have kept searching; IIRC a WPXI bumper played not long after Guiding Light was done on the tape which threw me off my track. The description for this and the other uploads I have planned will be fixed
@@UniArchives Thank you. I do like this video. I like seeing old Pittsburgh TV videos regularly on TH-cam, especially ones from the 1980s.
@@JosephPratt1986 Great to hear it! You'll be in for a treat from what I have scheduled to upload
@@UniArchives Hopefully you have more WQED things for us.
This commercial may very well have served as the inspiration for the "Dueling Saxophones" scene in the The Simpsons episode, "Lisa's Rival".
(Smashing that commercial with baseball bat)
Anyone know the song and artist?
Might be worth posting on watzatsong, I tried looking briefly but my search came up empty
1:36 PITTSBURGH MENTIONED ‼️ 🐧🔩💪💪💪💪💪
Vito legitimately fell and Bam made the producers leave it in, I’m so glad they did 😂
Judging by that "TBS Superstation" promo, I'd say that this batch of commercials comes from the year 1989.
Thanks for the correction! I've updated the title accordingly
@@UniArchives No problem, Uni. And thank *you* for being a hero for vintage media.
@@PhilipGipson-m9q Happy to make a difference!
Thanks to a post on Production Music Wiki, I've learned that the tracks on this tape are the following: Norman A. Harris - Sea Breeze (th-cam.com/video/kwILdPZpqvI/w-d-xo.html Norman A. Harris - Pastoral th-cam.com/video/BuCkT2S0xiM/w-d-xo.html It's reasons like this why I appreciate all the super niche wikis people make :)
Thank you
Do you have a Sudafed ad from late 1992?
I remember your last post - still no, sorry. I believe I have an ad that *mentions* Sudafed but is not from Sudafed themselves in my queue to be uploaded, I can only upload 10 videos a day now that TH-cam took away this account's advanced features.
Yeah, those lines are a nightmare. I've read from the External Filters page for AVISynth that there's a script called "DeVCR" that might help reduce the effect of the lines? Haven't gotten around to trying it yet, I'm busy working to defeat other VHS artifacts. Excellent to see another VHS quality enthusiast! ^_^
Do you have more of these commercials from 2006 maybe March 2006????
I'll keep you updated as I go through more of what I've been sent! A lot of the TV things I have right now are from the 1990s and early 2000s - haven't come across another USA Network tape yet though
@UniArchives the USA Network commercials are awesome especially those that show clips of upcoming WWE Raw episodes. those are awesome
Do you have a Sudafed commercial from 1992 where it shows a woman getting into a car, later near the end, she sees a semi truck and like swerves?
Don't recognize that one, but I'll certainly keep an eye out! A lot of what I have waiting for me is more late 90s CBS on KDKA-TV. As I start going through more of these EP T120 tapes, I will keep uploading the ads for specific tip-of-the-tongue moments like this 👍
0:32 Obligatory scratch doctor guy saying "nice car!" comment
The background music has no reason to slap so hard
Tell me about it!
Probably aired Nov 12 1987 -- days after Tom Brokaw returned from Berlin and the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Thank you for narrowing it down! I'll update the title accordingly
Thanks I suddenly remembered this thing
Expect to see a lot more commercial uploads like this in the coming weeks as I start to RF capture and decode the EP tapes I've been sent 🙂
This was before they began calling it Black Friday. Now, they're trying to call it Green Friday, or Sales Friday, etc.
So what I'm getting from this and the thanksgiving day commercials is that Kmart hated their employees
It wasn't hard to find newscasts of KMart workers going on strike or quitting because of absurd hours and little breaks like this when dating what I've uploaded...
Looks like you need less aggressive denoise, now video has very "plastic" view
UPDATE: From comparing with and without MCTD, it doesn't seem to have much effect on the image aside from some slight sharpening. QTGMC must be doing most of the real denoising work - I'll play around with leaving MCTD off for SLP/EP captures and compare I'll have to compare the raw interlaced FFV1 video to this, I already have MCTemporalDenoise set to low in StaxRip.. It's a good deal sharper than a conventional capture with the same VCR, though I can tell it does a fair bit of noise reduction on its own for EP tapes so it's not a good point of comparison
I remember
OH boy this old boy
Recorded October - November 3rd - Between November 20th - 23rd, 2000.
Thank you! Lines up with everything else I found after I started separating the promos and commercials.
November 21st that’s it
Is that a s-vhs recording or normal vhs? Looks pretty good
Regular VHS! vhs-decode really does this tape a favor, it looks a lot softer if digitized the 'conventional' way. Been meaning to do comparisons with my conventional setup for those interested
@@UniArchivesok, im interested
@@UniArchiveswhat is your vcr?
@@UniArchives I was amazed, as the quality of this conversion comes dangerously close to the quality of an S-VHS tape, and that’s saying a lot. It just needs some gamma adjustment, or tweaking the brightness and saturating the colors. That would be perfect
@@alvarogvdltgarcia52 On this capture I was using a Samsung DVD-VR375 tapped from the "ENV" video test point. I've since switched to a Sony SLV-677HF as it gives me better SNR and mono audio doesn't have high frequency noise
Greetings! For clarification, are both CXADC cards in this setup utilizing the clockgen mod or is it just one of them for the video or audio? Also, is the clockgen mod really necessary for advanced VHS Decode users looking into digitizing their VHS tapes in the best quality possible?
Both are utilizing clockgen mod, yes. I can vouch for using thesetup if you want to capture both the raw VHS video and Hi-Fi audio signals at the same time, so they are perfectly in sync with each other. That and the PCM1802 board is an easy way to get perfect sync linear or demodulated hi-fi, depending on what's on the tape
Really good quality, amazing work man.
