Aww I have been there. Prepare and take care of yourself at home for sure. Good rest and a meal will keep a level head - However when I see this behavior it screams “I Need Love and Attention!” And thats worked for me every time. Know that child is physically needing something that we as staff or parent has not fufilled.
Yes, taking care of yourself is so important. It's difficult to leave work at work and take care of your own family when you are in these situations. I'm so glad that extra love and attention has worked for you every time. I didn't experience the same in certain situations in my own classroom. There are times that students have true mental health needs that we cannot meet as teachers and that's okay. Unfortunately, these major behaviors are not always 'fixed' in a whole group setting with 25 other students who also needs TLC. And in my experience, the lack of support for behavior concerns is a huge reason teachers are leaving classrooms.
What is an average class size for you? Are you the only teacher or do you have a classroom para/assistant?
Our average class size was about 22. I was the only teacher with our half day program. I only ever had a para the year I had 28 students.
Kids also learn through play
I agree. Even higher grades need this time maybe more recess. But some time of day to socialize and have some down time
What are your favorite October read aloud books?
Love this! Can wait to try it!
Yay! I hope it works well in your classroom!
Thanks for sharing this. Our kindergartner doesn’t have homework. But as a parent I want to do some work with him. This helps. Love these so much
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
I'll be a new Kindergarten (we call them Infants at our school) teacher in September of this year, 2024. I'm enjoying learning from you. Thanks for your very helpful videos. 😊
Thanks for watching! I hope you have a great year!
Great instructive video. I can tell that you're an awesome Kinder-teacher. Keep up the great work. 😊👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you so much 🤗
I really loved this video, but are 5 years really gonna sit and engage in this conversation for that long when you explain it
It's all in how you present it. 5-year olds definitely don't have a long attention span, but with active modeling and demonstrating you can definitely set expectations for your calm corner. Visuals help, too!
The marble in the netting is my favorite quiet fidget.
Thanks for the tip. I have always done the 10+ class jobs and like you said, I also never kept up with it. By December the only jobs that got different people were the Line Leader, Door Holder and Supply manager. I am so ready to give this tip a try!!! I will let you know how it works out.
Yes! It dwindles down to only the most important jobs. I hope using a helper of the day works well for you!!
Love this! Thank you
Thanks for watching!
I appreciated this post, I'll be adopting these!

Amy this was great! Please do more videos like this!
Thanks so much! I have a few more workshops on my to-do list! :)
Agreed! Most instances you let it go, new day. You weren’t there. Just had a teammate asking me if she should address this and I said no, start the day on the positive and fresh and happy to see your class. Subbing is hard and it’s always different when the teachers gone. I always leave suckers for sub to hand out to kiddos and stickers.
Thanks for watching! Yes, subbing is so hard! I used to leave treats for the sub to give students, too.
This is wonderful!!! I've been struggling this year with behaviors, can't wait to try these when we get back to school after spring break.
Glad it was helpful!
I really enjoy your tutorial . 😊
Thank you! 😊
I was moved to kindergarten this year from from another grade level.I have a student that I have had for 5 months that hits, kicks, rips at my clothes, spits and bites me. He was coming at me repeatedly to attack me. His behavior has gotten somewhat better, and this only happens a few times a day and it’s less violent, but it has made me very sad and I feel like I have lost myself. I’m not enjoying teaching. Is this normal for me to feel this way?
I'm so sorry to hear you're dealing with this. Unfortunately, in my experience this is all too "normal". I wish it weren't the norm, but all too often teachers (myself included) are dealing with major behavior disruptions. Hopefully you are able to get admin to help you to get your student the support he needs, soon.
Hi Amy , I love your videos! I'm a homeschool teacher and every since I found you over the summer I have used some many of your products. They have helped me be a better teacher. :)
That's awesome to hear! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for the useful information.

Hi! I am a para who is completely new to kindergarten. Tomorrow is day 1, so I am a excited and a bit nervous. Thank you for this helpful advice, although it is aimed at helping teachers. I got an idea of what to expect 😊.
Best wishes for a great year!
Good job
Thank you! New to K and your videos are so well done!! So happy I found you!
Thanks for being here! Hope you have a great year!
Thank you ma’am! You are a blessing ❤❤
You're welcome - I am so glad this helped you!
Thank you so much. You are a life saver. I’ve been teaching for 3 years in preschool; however, it’s my first time teaching kindergarten. I thought I would be lost, but thanks to you, I feel better ❤❤
You're so welcome! I am happy yo help. I hope you have the best year in kindergarten!
Wow Im loving your videos! Thank you for these tips. Ill be setting up a Cozy Corner or Vacay Space soon!
Love how this also helps the teacher remember to focus on one goal at a time, I need the reminder too!
I find going over the routine for getting ready for lunch in detail is so helpful. Bathroom, wash hands, get lunch box or whatever your routine would be. This also becomes the bathroom/wash hands routine for any time students use the bathroom during the day. Once the school year gets rolling, I want to be able to tell students to get ready for lunch and then keep on teaching with minimal disruption. They get it done and get right back to work or group, etc.
Great tip!!
Love it but all these resources, hope I can find them. Thank you
Hi there! You can find most of the links here in this blog post: teachingexceptionalkinders.com/2021/05/morning-work-ideas-for-kindergarten Hope that helps! Amy
This is great! Does the token chart start over each day? Meaning if they only got 3 out of five starts a day- do they carry over or do you start fresh the following school day?
Absolutely - start fresh each day. Every day is a new opportunity :) Sometimes carrying over the 3 stars from the day before brings back negative feelings that they "failed" the day before. Starting fresh with a clean slate sends the signal that each day is a new chance to have a great day.
Thank you for making this video! For your whole class incentive system, did you have two separate ones, one for AM and one for PM or were both classes adding pieces to the same one?
Yes, I would keep 2 separate charts, one for AM and one for PM. That way each class was working towards their own reward.
How long do students stay in Hawaii? How long is the sand timer? Thank you! I am a new subbie! 😊
Hi Kelly - The timing is totally up to you and how long you think your students will need for their break. I had a set of sand timers with 1, 3, and 5 minutes. Usually, I put the 3 minute timer in there because in half day kindergarten, we didn't have a lot of time to spend in Hawaii.
lol...love it. And we will be going to Jamaica..lol. That makes so much sense, I never thought of that and its true, I hate when people tell me to calm down. It doesn't really help with my calming down process, so I know that it doesn't work for rhe children either. This was great advice and I am do glad I came across your page.
Jamaica sounds wonderful!
What a great end of year idea! Thanks!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching :)
Hi, this is really good information. This video provided a lot of value. Thanks for sharing with the community.
Nice observation. (1) Consistent (2) Clear (3) Ready to go (4) Use every day... Good job!
Thanks! 😃
Great video!!!...I like your style...Keep up the wonderful job...I just subscribed👍😀
Thank you so much!!
I’m trying to gauge if my child is ready for kindergarten or not. This is very helpful! I’m a pro homework parent but I understand your reasons for not being pro homework. Maybe I’ll ease up a little 😅
It's hard to know if you child is ready for kindergarten - but you'll never regret giving them the gift of extra time to be a kid! There is definitely a time and a place for homework, but kids need to be kids, too 😀
@@teachingexceptionalkinders ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for the ideas!
Glad you like them!
Thank you! How many minutes do you allow for morning tubs? thx
Most mornings we did 10 - 15 minutes. :)
