LYRICS
(Oh, look at this picture down here)
There's a white knight with a black heart standing at my door
With pills, and lines, and tabs
We turn for war
Tirades of lies
Her soldiers move reciting grace within her spool
They settle in the crowd
The alchemist has found that there's no use for troops
The files from forensics has found
The liar's lure is passionately tied up in the ribs of a clown
Who walks upon the street of cobble stone
Knowing there ain't no body home
Define this fool a tragedy
Forgiveness is the lesson to find
There's a white knight with a black heart knocking down my door
To kick me out and file a case against my world
I saw running thieves
And jesters scheme relaying lustful love
While speaking tongues and drinking blood
Hand in hand with conniving friends
They settled in the crowd
The alchemist has found that there's no use for troops
Their fire burned my fence to the ground
The liar's lure is rapidly tightening the noose on the clown
Who walks upon the street of cobblestone
Singing like there's nobody home
Define this fool a tragedy
Forgiveness is the lesson to find

Fucking great!.... sad that ONE of the things that separate the successors from the "plain" guy/girl is CONNECTIONS.....and dedication.... Keep it up and the dream will come... But make sure that it is the dream you wish for..... Other wise it will literally kill you.

"Provider" is a song I wrote in 2024, just before moving to Nashville. One night, while making brownies with my fiancée, I challenged myself to write a song in the 15 minutes they were in the oven. The beat and pattern came to me first, followed by a simple synth melody, and a natural Latin groove emerged. Sometimes, the most organic moments in songwriting happen when you don’t overthink it. That was definitely the case here. I improvised some vocal melodies and lyrics, and that’s how Provider was born-originally titled 'Brownies' in my Logic sessions. As I’ve mentioned in other videos, my sketch demos are private creative journeys, never intended for release-but here we are. Provider is a droning, meditative audio atmosphere, drawing inspiration from lo-fi, certain aspects of EDM, and an alternative rock progression. The song explores the theme of provision-for all who are in need-and the idea of turning away from self-reliance to rest in God’s care. Even Jesus said this path would be met with opposition and hate, but acting in faith always bears beautiful fruit. While it may not be easy, you come to see the true provision and relationship between ourselves and the spiritual. Thank you for listening!
Hey everyone, thanks you very much for checking out my my music. This song will be on the upcoming deluxe release of my album "For The Poor". Fireside is a song I wrote back in 2021. When I create sketch demos, I typically focus on bringing the song to life and laying down the foundational elements so that when it comes time to record properly, most of the pieces are in place. However, sometimes I find myself getting attached to the demo itself. I’ve always loved this demo. Fun fact: the percussion you are hearing is a sponge, my foot, and my guitar. The shaker is me rubbing my hand against a Scrub Daddy Sponge, the kick drum is my foot hitting the carpeted floor in my old studio in my house, and the snare is the side of my thumb hitting the body of my seagull acoustic. It is an experimental song inspired by the production of "Mighty God" by Elevation Worship. Hey everyone, thanks you very much for checking out my new album "For The Poor". This album is a deeply personal project I wrote and recorded in Nashville. It’s raw, acoustic, and straight from the heart. I’d love to hear your thoughts. What track resonates with you the most? Let me know in the comments! "There Is A Hurricane" resonates deeply in light of the recent destruction caused by Hurricane Halene along parts of the East Coast, particularly with Hurricane Milton approaching Florida. The song simmered in my soul for over a year, initially intended for a full band album and sounding quite different from this acoustic version. Then, during one random moment in Nashville in the middle of the night, the rest of the lyrics came to me, and the chorus hit me with such intensity that I felt compelled to write it and weave that section into the song. Originally titled "Hurricane Rain," I decided to change it to reflect the major message of the new chorus. In many ways, this song serves as a prayer, highlighting our world's current state and the urgent need for us to embrace one another as Christ did and to look beyond political agenda and into the hearts and minds of one another's soul. "Overlooked" is a raw portrayal of the battle with self-sabotage driven by depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress. As someone who has personally faces these mental health struggles, it has taken years of effort and therapy to scratch the surface of understanding how these internal challenges effect daily life. Without the guidance of professional therapists, navigating these feelings would be much more difficult. I wrote this song back in 2018 in Haddon Township, New Jersey. It still reflects the ongoing journey of understanding and coping with mental health and the song in a way is meant to depict an internal dialogue with ones self. No Money Son" is less about being broke and more about God’s provision and not measuring worth by material possessions. It serves as a response to "Medics & Matadors" within the context of the album, illustrating the tension between one's pursuit of a vision the and the inevitable opposition you face along the path, particularly when financial instability becomes undeniable to others. At the same time, it’s my take on the style of modern country songs, embracing some of the more "cheesy" elements while still trying to deliver a deeper message. "Medics & Matadors" delves into my experiences with medication and psychiatric evaluation during my early twenties. The song reflects on how, in those moments of deep isolation and shame, I found solace in my faith and in the compassion of Jesus. It’s a personal exploration of navigating mental health while holding onto spiritual belief. The inspiration for this track came from a riff I wrote way back in my freshman year of high school and a jam session with my first drummer in Chestertown, Maryland. 👉 Check out the lyric videos here: th-cam.com/play/PLEJhiuDYP5kPMnp_GrGf6j9NWlgVYaT4Q.html 👉 Follow me for more music: instagram.com/devincanfield/ 👉If you want to help me grow and stay updated on future releases, sign up for my email list here: devincanfield.com/connection. I’d love to hear your thoughts. What track resonates with you the most? Let me know in the comments! "Sewer" is deeply complex to me and has so many layers but has inspiration from The Beatles and Matthew 6, where Jesus teaches not to be anxious about material things, saying, “Do not worry about what you will eat, drink, or wear. Your heavenly Father knows you need them. Seek first His kingdom, and all will be provided.” This song came together in a spontaneous, deeply emotional moment, with the lyrics written in a single, free-flowing session. When I was as young as two, I would sing Bruce Springsteen songs and remember all the lyrics to some songs. I often reflect on that as a reminder that my passion for music has been a part of me since the very beginning, even if it doesn’t always match the perspectives of those around me. To be honest, I hated the experience. It felt like I was hearing the same song over and over again, not to mention everyone was dressed the same in cowboy boots and tucker hats. So I went home and wrote this as a satirical response. Inspired in part by my subconscious appreciation for Tenacious D, it’s meant to poke fun at the monotony I experienced that night while also poking fun at myself and the crazy shit that goes on in my head. Have you ever seen a sloth running fast? Yeah, me neither. That’s how I felt about myself-unseen, like something moving so slowly that no one notices - kind of like my attempt at being an artist. "End Of The Day" was written after a phone call with my brother while I was in Nashville. He had just broken his wrist, and a few months prior, I threw my back out and couldn’t walk for nearly a week. During our conversation, we reflected on life, our struggles, and our shared yet independent journeys as aspiring musicians. The phrase "at the end of the day" kept coming up, and after we hung up, I sat down and wrote this song. It’s a reflection on the uncertain and often daunting path we walk alone and together; a journey into the unknown that only the Lord can truly walk beside us on. "When Our Time Has Come" holds a special place in my heart on this album. There’s so much behind it that I can’t capture in just a few sentences. Written in about two days, it emerged as a stream of consciousness while I played a favorite chord progression-moving from E major to F# Minor 7, famously featured in the song “Melissa.” I’ve relied on those two chords many times before. This song became the catalyst for making the album and served as my source of inspiration and courage to move forward with recording it. The idea for it was born just two days before I learned I was being dropped by the investor who had been supporting my time in Nashville. I had just completed pre-production on my full band album when I received that news. This album wasn't suppose to happen in my plans. In that moment, everything changed; a year-and-a-half process crumbled, and I felt it deeply. I turned to writing this song, and it became a pivotal point in my timeline. I was in a pretty intense place while writing and recording it and this performance was the middle of that process. I hope to share more about this experience in the future. "Renewed & Restored" is a progression I’ve been sitting with for years, inspired by a jam session with a drummer from Chestertown, Maryland. The lyrics emerged during a night when I had to rush a friend to the hospital after a gig due to a flare-up of bronchitis that was worsened by singing the day before. After our visit to the ER, the words came to me as I drove home, and I realized I was reflecting on John 10, where Jesus says, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” As of now, I’m not sure if I consider this song finished. I might want to expand upon it in the future, as I have more lyrics that could add depth to the message. Your support helps me continue to create music and prepare for bigger projects in the future. Hey everyone, thanks you very much for checking out "For The Poor". This album is a deeply personal project I wrote and recorded in Nashville. It’s raw, acoustic, and straight from the heart. I’d love to hear your thoughts. What track resonates with you the most? Let me know in the comments! "Evidence" is the only song I’ve ever written where the lyrics came first, followed by the music. Typically, my songwriting process involves the music coming first or creating lyrics through an ad-lib word salad during melody exploration. However, with this song, I approached it as a journal entry, reflecting on parenting and God's response to prayer. Although I don’t have children of my own, I wanted to capture the essence of parenthood as I see it from my perspective while playing a song in a style reminiscent of James Taylor. This song is my heartfelt attempt to connect with parents and offer them a sense of understanding and support from an adult child while also encouraging the foundational importance of faith and the spiritual dimensions of life. 👉 Check out the lyric videos here: th-cam.com/play/PLEJhiuDYP5kPMnp_GrGf6j9NWlgVYaT4Q.html 👉 Follow me for more music: instagram.com/devincanfield/ 👉If you want to help me grow and stay updated on future releases, sign up for my email list here: devincanfield.com/connection. good good stuff. so ambient. 🤘
Thanks so much. Yeah, this recording was more of a cathartic experience for me - I recorded it during the pandemic and needed some ambient medicine to fight my depression lol amazing what some reverb can do to the soul.
@@devincanfield that actually adds a lot more to the tone of it, now. thank you very much for sharing it. depression suuuuuuucks. lol. but, for real, reverb really does add. always welcomed. haha
