Established in 1996, the East Central Research Foundation (ECRF) is a non- profit organization whose mandate is to conduct crop production research and extension activities for the agricultural industry of east central Saskatchewan. It is directed by a board of local producers and advised by provincial specialists. ECRF is one of eight AgriARM sites in Saskatchewan.
In 2013 a memorandum of understanding was signed between the ECRF and Parkland College to share resources and jointly pursue agricultural research and extension. The partnership is proving to be ideal as the members have access to different funding sources and benefit from each other’s expertise and relations with industry. The partnership has enabled Parkland College to become the first regional college in Saskatchewan to undertake an applied research program which fits with one of its mandates “to serve regional economic development”.

Agronomist Mike Hall discusses the results from seeding date by nitrogen rate by seeding rate trial. Late seeded canola requires less N and may benefit from increasing seeding rate to hasten maturity.
Effect of Land Rolling on Barley Grain and Greenfeed Yield 2023
มุมมอง 244ปีที่แล้ว
Mike Hall covers the results from a land rolling study in barley grain and greenfeed. Even land rolling early at the 2-3 leaf stage resulted in forage yield loss. The best time in this study was 1-3 days post seed. However, this timing might cause soil crusting and erosion issues for some fields.

Getting the Most Out of Nitrogen Applications 2021 Updates
Thank you for this research! Very curious how many years most producers can go without buying more certified seed and yet still not affecting vigor. Video mentions one to three years. What about four? Five? Did those interviews with 800 growers talk about that?
Where can I get the seeds for canary seed plants?

when i best to apply n to oats or i it best to split how about sulfer thanks would you put ulfer with n
We haven't done any work on split applications of N in oats yet, therefore we cannot give you any solid advice. However, we have plans to do similar research soon. Banding Sulphur at seeding reduces environmental losses and ensures S is readily available for the plant. Broadcasting or foliar applying sulphur in-season requires rainfall to leach the S into the soil. If rainfall isn't received in a timely fashion your crop could become S deficient if the soil reserves are inadequate. Macro nutrients are required in large amounts therefore it is usually recommended to apply the bulk of fertilizer at or prior to seeding. In our area, we consider in-season applications of macros as a backup/top-up plan for example you think you have under fertilized your crop for the expected yield potential so to achieve the max yield and quality you need to apply nutrients in-season.
Very informative! I’ve been led to believe that split applications were absolutely the way to go but it looks to me like the only real benefit would be less filling in seeding time and if you start with a lower rate and run into a drought you can save the $$ and not apply any extra fertilizer.
Very informative video! Just getting into dry beans, will definitely use this information.
Hello can we grow canary seed in India?
Yes, canary seeds can grow every where.. Those are likes rice in the field
Keep up the great work! I hope you have some interesting trials set for this season!
Nice. Think the decreasing test weights might be to enhanced tillering? Could it be counteracted by sowing a bit deeper maybe? Btw, are the test weights measured straight out the combine sample as is?
The yield increase from increasing nitrogen comes from the tillers. The tillers are likely to produce smaller kernels so your conclusion about tillering reducing test weights seems plausible to me. However, increasing seeding rate also decreases tillering but test weights reduced as well. I don't know why deeper seeding would improve test weights but there was a trend for this occuring in one of our studies. It might be related to a lower yield potential with deep seeding. Why were you thinking deeper seeding would increase test weight?
@@eastcentralresearchfoundat1520 Planting a bit deeper would give you a larger portion of grains from the main shoot instead of tillers, which produce lighter TW grains?
@@7rixee I'd assume it would probably produce higher TW and lower yield as the tillers are often what is filled secondary. Stressing out a plant is normally not the best economic decision because an increase in TW generally doesn't make up for the lose in yield and it would be nearly impossible to achieve a perfect balance between the two due to environmental changes each year.
