Lower Carbon Fuels Research Project
Lafarge and its partners are embarking on a million-dollar study on the environmental benefits of introducing lower carbon fuels at its Exshaw Cement Plant. Building off research from four other Canadian cement plants, this multi-partner, multi-site research project is the most significant of its kind in Canada.
he overall goal is to reduce carbon emissions to align with the province of Alberta’s Climate Change Leadership plan. As part of the research project, Lafarge wants to replace 30-50 per cent of fossil fuel use at Canadian plants with lower carbon fuels by 2020.

How Cement is Made
มุมมอง 426K7 ปีที่แล้ว
Cement is manufactured by thermally treating a mineral mixture of limestone, sandstone and shale, with some minor raw materials, allowing Exshaw to serve the community by using waste products that would otherwise be landfilled. Raw materials for cement production include: limestone, which is quarried from immediately north of the Plant; shale, quarried near Seebe; and sandstone, which is quarri...

There is a cement factory at my hometown. Growing up I always hated this factory because they brought so much ashes to surrounding areas. Not much green plant can survive around this factory. Also, cement factory blew up a lot of rocky hills to get the raw materials ( limestones). When I was younger I spent so much time staring at these green hills and wondered what animals were behind these thick bushes. Sadly, cement factory blew these hills one by one with dynamite. Sometimes I think it’s really contradicting…why destroy nature wonders to create “man-made” buildings? Why do human choose to go from full-of-life green to lifeless grey…?

Pre-homo mix, is what I think he said. I think they mean it as an abbreviation of homogenous mix. Which makes sense as all the ingredients need to be crushed into powder and mixed to a perfect blend.

Cement making is a massive contributor to CO2 greenhouse gas emissions. Notice the nice PR lady did not mention any mitigation or removal efforts of CO2. This process using Limestone is archaic and will soon be replaced by innovative companies researching/scaling other Carbon neutral/negative technologies.
